Just to be clear, I have no issue with the idea of bringing these games to a new audience. That's cool, that's fine.I'm purely talking about people who are rebuying these games. I'm not out to tell people what to buy. It's their money. I just honestly don't get it myself.

I wish they would all be 49.99.. but if there's a lot of work involved and it's not done shotty.. then I don't mind giving them 60.. Twice.

$50? Christ, I would think $30-40 tops. Unless a lot of work is put into it, but even then I would think $40 would be the top price I'd be willing to play for a single game HD remaster.

It's not really that hard to get. People just want to own a nicer version of something they like.

Example: I've already seen Twin Peaks, but I'm really excited about the new Blu-ray box set.

I mean, you posted in my Twin Peaks thread about how you wanted to get the Twin Peaks Blu-ray, despite the fact that you've already seen it. Are you sure the concept is so alien to you?

if backwards compatibility means so much to you guys then buy your games at Steam. I am playing games that were made for DOS on Windows 8

Yeah..I view that in the same light. I already have LotR extended box set on DVD.. but I wanted nicer looking versions so I got them on Bluray. Same with Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

And they tend to be WAY more expensive than games.

Well, you are leaving out some context. I watched it via CBS online originally, and have never actually owned the series so it wouldn't be a rebuying situation. But fair enough, I have re-bought films on blu-ray that I've really liked. Truthfully, though, I don't think it's as much of an investment since the price is usually lower. (IIRC, all the HD collections have been at least $40 with some being $50).

I just don't look at them the same way I guess, either. HD can make a good deal of difference for a film or tv show when done well. Playing MGS2/MGS3 from the HD Collection...I don't know, really didn't seem all that much different. I feel the experience would be about the same if I booted up my PS2 copy of Substance/Subsistence.

No other platform has the immense library that PC has. No other platform has the same variety of genres. No other platform can offer amazing visuals without compromising performance. Saying "ew... computer" is tantamount to saying "ew... games".

I don't particularly like playing games on the PC, either :/

I don't know, don't really like the mouse and keyboard. Don't know or really understand stuff like memory and RAM and CPU. I thought about building a gaming PC once, but got lost :/

Same.

I HATE the mouse and keyboard.. Playing Diablo 3 on my PC was NOT how I wanted to play it anymore. It worked when Diablo 2 came out but I really dislike the point and click crap now. When I played it on the PS3 I was like "This is how it always should have been.."

I also hate that if I have an error I have to google search what something means and how to fix it, etc.

I like Steam.. I do.. but..I hate playing games on/with a PC.

Keep in mind I have nothing against the PC gamer, I'm kind of sort of one (not really.. My PC can't run MUCH).. However I have everything against the PC Elitists. It's one of the reasons I don't go to sites like Kotaku anymore. :p

Fair enough.

Although I do think most PC games have controller support these days.

I'd be open to PC gaming, probably. I just don't really know where to start. It seems so much simpler to just have a console for a few years that does everything for you.

When you say you don't know where to start, you mean like with hardware?

Yeah. I think Greg Miller said it best.. he doesn't have the time to figure out PC gaming. He has NOTHING against it and understand why so many people love it.. but the console more or less does everything for you right out of the box.. At most all you have to do is upgrade the HDD and even that is done as simple as possible.

In all honest indy games is what attracted me to PC gaming.. but now I can get all of those games on the PS4 now. Still hoping for a Papers Please port.

You're probably asking TB this question but my answer is no. I actually have no issues building PC's.. I just.. Have no real interest in it anymore. I used to be REALLY into that stuff and I would get the best graphics card, etc that I could every few years and upgrade everything...

Then, I just kind of fell off the band wagon. When I started seeing games that I thought would only ever be on the PC make their way to consoles.. I stopped caring. I always loved the mods you could use in the Elder Scrolls game.. but.. even they didn't keep me on board.

I just want extreme simplicity when it comes to gaming anymore, lol.

For those that don't like mouse and keyboard, you of realize that like 90% of games have native 360 support? It's as simple as plugging in and playing. There's even drivers for the Dualshock 3 and programs to remap keyboard/mouse functions to game pad. Mouse and keyboard being the only way to play most PC games hasn't been a thing in like 8 years. Most developers include game pad support bc a good chunk of games are multi platform anyway

I honestly didn't know that. Can I use the Wii U Pro controller on PC?

Yes. However at the end of the day that doesn't change my other issues. I mean if someone loves PC gaming.. Sweet, it's just not my cup o' tea anymore. That's not to say that I won't one day upgrade my PC again and play some games on it, but right now that isn't something I plan on doing..

Pretty much every game I play here on in will be on PS4 outside of XB1 exclusives.

The original Xbox had all kinds of great little gems: Phantom Dust, Jet Set Radio Future, Crismon Skies, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Ninja Gaiden, etc. Lots of good stuff on there.

I do also wonder if the decision to nix BC was also about the rise of the HD collection this gen. Lots of HD ports of previous gen games got released with minimal efforts and seemed to sell well. It amazed me that so many people were willing to pay to play something they already bought just because it was slightly prettier.
I don't think the decision to nix BC had anything to do with the rise of HD collections. HD collections became successful because as the last gen got older, it got harder and harder to find PS2/Xbox games, and the HD collections offered better visuals and updates such as achievement support that people like. Even if the PS3 kept backwards compatibility, HD collections still would have been successful. Fable and the Halo games are backwards compatible with the Xbox 360, but it still didn't stop Microsoft from releasing Anniversary editions.

I've been pc gaming regularly for not too long and it has massive advantages but the simplicity of consoles is also a massive advantage. The great thing about consoles is that there is almost never anything to think about apart from gaming. My pc, one day the sound will disappear for no reason, the next it will just of its own volition switch out from the game back to a different application in the middle of the action and I also don't really like using mouse and keyboard for gaming when I can be relaxing or working out while playing. Performance is so much better though it's a joke and I think the difference will be quite unbelievable in 6 years or so. Big benefits/costs to both, no way I'll ever give up either.

I don't know, seems kind of like throwing $40-50 away really. The only one I got was the MGS one, but it was only because I never played Peace Walker. If they had bonus stuff, I could see it, but few of them do (I know MGS3 in this collection actually had stuff cut).
Don't know if I'd always pay full price but for my favourite entertainment products I rebuy as I want it in its best possible form and the money spent is going on supporting those who made that product, so it's one area I'm happy to overspend. I own my favourite 20-25 films on every format (and will buy them all again in 4K if/when available) but I save a lot more money now by not buying films/TV shows outside of my favourites. Just watch them on cable or Netflix. I should also add I'm a home cinema enthusiast so the quality of the source makes a lot of difference.
