I don't think a thread on this has been made yet, but in recent news Sony denied wanting to be a part of EA Access, and as a result, it is now exclusive to Xbone. Multiplatform games are always more popular than exclusive games, which is probably more of what P.S now has to offer.

And EA is a huge gaming conglomerate. With Xbone having exclusive access to it, this will be another selling point.

First of all, you're horribly mischaracterizing PlayStation Now where most of the games are actually multiplatform games.

Second, if EA Access is successful it's just going to create a mess. It'll just lead to multiple subscription services by Activision Blizzard, Ubisoft, Take Two, etc. instead of one nice coherent service. A subscription service will only work with multiple publishers supporting the service. PlayStation Now has the support of Konami, Square-Enix, Koei-Tecmo, Capcom, Sega, Deep Silver, Warner Bros., etc. Sorta like how Netflix has the support of Warner Bros., Disney, Paramount, Lionsgate, etc. EA Access on the other hand has the support of EA and.....EA.

What should happen is either Microsoft creates a PlayStation Now like service or the publishers come together and create the service themselves and offer it on both platforms. EA Access is going to do nothing to bolster the fortunes of the Xbox One. Frankly, I think it's starting to become too late for Microsoft to catch up with the momentum that the PlayStation 4 has.

It's definitely something Microsoft should promote. You can buy an X1 this month and for $30 have 3 AAA games and Peggle 2 which is very popular. Very good for new buyers.

$30 a year is kinda pushing it when many Xbox One gamers are also Xbox Live subscribers at $60 a year (which is needed if you want to use multiplayer on EA's games) and other subscription services on the console like Netflix. The problem will get even worse if other publishers decide to follow suit and launch their own services. You can't just expect gamers to pony up $30 for Ubisoft, $30 for Take Two, $30 for Activision, $30 for Capcom, etc. It's just pure insanity.

It just isn't not a good deal for consumers. The library of just one publisher isn't worth it to consumers. EA should have teamed up with other publishers or Microsoft should have created their own OnLive/PlayStation Now type service.

One service would be ideal but this is good value they're offering. Let's say Ubi does make a similar service. For the price of one game ($60), you'd have access to 6 AAA games and 2 indies. And that's only to start. The vaults will only fill with more free games, increasing value. I just can't see that as a negative.

It depends on how big the back catalog of games go, if you have access to some major EA titles for 40 bux a year, that's a pretty good deal, then add on the fact you get 10% discounts on future titles and DLC, all positive things. You can't say it's a bad deal because other publisher might follow suit. On a side note, with this move, the Xbox One just became THE console to own for sports gamers.

I said that PsNow was more about exclusives so I guess I was wrong about that.

Also, if Microsoft does come out with like an Xbox Now (which let's face it, is pretty damn likely) AND has EA Access while all Ps4 has is PsNow, Xbone still has the advantage.

I see what you're saying about all the other gaming companies coming out with subscriptions, but right now all we have is PsNow and EA Access, right? And EA, which holds the rights to a vastly more pool of casual games, is probably going to be the more popular.

And you're wrong, there's definitely a chance for the Xbone to come back. I'm pretty much a P.S fanboy but I have to admit I see the Xbone's chance of taking over coming. And the next one is this holiday season, when the Halo collection comes out which WILL move consoles while there's nothing on the Ps4 to compete with it.

Oh they'll promote it alright. And it's going to work.

Xbone is already the official console for the NFL. So... all this news is pretty bad for Ps4 players crazy about FIFA & the likes.

turns out i'm not a fanboy after all.

I'm all about this service.. Streaming service is the future if everything, IMHO.

What is the difference between a demo and an EA Access trial?
Demos are stand-alone chunks of the game meant to give you a taste, but they don’t provide the full experience. When you play a trial through EA Access, you are playing the real game for a limited time, five days before the release date. And if you buy the game once it releases, you don’t need to download or install anything; you can just pick up where you left off and keep playing.

so essentially pre-loading for EA games. Very nice.

This is basically just a better version of the Season Pass they tried a few years ago. That allowed you to download full copies of Madden, FIFA, Tiger Woods and other sports titles a week early and which upon release, if you purchased the full game, all your saves would transfer over. Out of the gate this service will be big for the sports gamer.

Don't the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 already do that with games that you pre-order? Once you buy it, it downloads a few days early so you can immediately play it on release date.

The PS4 does, the X1 is still lagging behind in that dept unfortunately. It won't be long before its added. Ill bet that its coming in the september update.

Insomniac said digital pre-orders would be available before Sunset Overdrive was released in October, so it's imminent.

I'm surprised that the Xbox One doesn't do that yet.

I can't believe Insomniac made an Xbox exclusive like that... Sunset should have been out for Ps4

As much as I would love to play Sunset, I'm fine with them making an Xbox exclusive. They're trying to branch out besides just being a PlayStation developer and I think that after Fuse was a bust, Microsoft was probably the only publisher, that was not Sony, willing to foot the bill.

I think it's going to be a great game, unfortunately, I also think it's going to bomb hard. For some reason consumers just aren't buying things that look colorful and fun, instead going with the billionth sequel to Call of Duty and Battlefield.

I don't think it's going to bomb but if it does, it'll teach a lesson to Insomniac to never develop games for anyone except Sony.

But Xbox always has high attachment rates. The game will sell just fine.

well, my interest in Sunset Overdrive just went up over the weekend when I found out you can customize your character.

I hope Sunset sells well and boosts X1 sales, especially for the Holiday season.

Yea considering how badly they want u to go digital. They really make it unappealing.

On EA Access, EA confirmed you won't need a Gold account to access the service.

Didn't Microsoft already confirm that almost all of their services no longer require a Gold account now asides from online multiplayer and Games with Gold?

Yep.

Guess a lot of people assumed Gold would still be required though, which caused EA to clarify.

It will be a shame if this game does poorly, but Insomniac's games have almost never set the game charts on fire and Fuse was an utter disaster. The only reason why I think Insomniac is still independent as opposed to being a Sony developer is because they make their games very cheaply and thus can weather a financial failure much better than a lot of indie developers do.

This isn't anything about Xbox or PlayStation gamers but gamers in general. It just seems that we're in an era where most consumers are just disdainful of things that look colorful and fun like Sunset Overdrive instead preferring games that look muddy, "realistic," gritty, and generic. I guess it's just my overall pessimism of the stupidity of the average public that is making me think that this game is going to bomb. Sorta like how we see great films like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Dredd 3D fail but 2014's highest grossing film is Transformers: Age of Extinction.

But there games aren't indie yeah? And if you go back 3 generations, the spyro series, the original series, the trilogy was a best seller on the ps1. ratchet and clank did alright after that and I think resistance also did well. but yeah, none of these are really AAA titles.

Either way, sunset overdrive will probably sell well I think. But if they don't, I'll be happy because it'll teach Insom never to develop for Xbox. Or at least I hope it will.

Well ISS was kinda popular, granted there's not much else around right now and the complaints for that game weren't at all for the graphics, unless you believe that they downgraded.

Even TLOU was muddy and gritty (using your words) but I would't say generic. Well maybe it was generic but it was still colorful. Mario Kart... dude, come on. I don't think the era we've shifted into means less colors :cwink:
