here's a stupid idea, do like Modern Warfare 2, put a disclaimer stating the nature of the gameplay, give you a choice whether you want to play the game with that feature intact or without.

i'm sure that'll end up happening.

It's just a damn game, you dont see people jumping up and down when a movie depicts the same stuff.

But the intent of war movies is far different than the intent of war video games. One is meant to show the brutality of war, and/or retell an important part of history; to shed light on the loss of innocence, the courage of brave men, etc. The other is meant so a bunch of guys can sit in a room together and brag about how cool that head shot was.

And your statement is untrue anyway; there was TONS of complaints over Saving Private Ryan, for example.

Well my bad for not researching it completely before making the statement. Fact of the matter is, they are making a big fuss over something that could be optional in the game. Of course, we all know the horrors that troops endure especially when deployed in a combat zone. I see it everyday, now if this is implemented into the game, from the developers standpoint they're trying to offer an experience that puts the player on either side of the battlefield since war is something that not everyone experiences. Although some look at it as just seeing how many head shots they can rack up, it does offer imagery of what can be seen in an intense firefight or when measures are at an extreme prompting you to think fast for not only your safety but your fellow players.

It's not a big problem to troops on my base over here, I always see them casually playing Modern Warfare 2 and they never once think any of that stuff was offensive, and these guys are living it.

My correcting you wasn't meant to be offensive - I know that happens a lot around here, and I apologize if you took it as such.

I guess from a soldier's point of view, it all depends on how well they handle their experiences and/or the severity of those experiences as well...

Nice try though!

It's not about middle eastern people but about the muslim terrorists. I have no problem with people from that area of the world that aren't terrorists.

My problem with this game isn't because the actual war is still ongoing it's just disgusting and as ignorant as you can get wanting to play as a bunch of sick and twisted ****s.

Also, I don't really play these games since 1st person shooters have gotten old due to them flooding the market, so I never knew that in past games you could play as Nazis...which I also think is ******ed.

There is no justification behind wanting or being able to play as those types of people. I'm not against violence in video games or movies(I grew up in the '80s and remember playing DOOM a lot as well as being old enough to have witnessed the first MK game hitting the arcades) and I do agree that when kids do stupid or dangerous things that it's BS to blame those forms of entertainment instead of the parents, but this is entirely different.

If you're a mature adult and want to play as the Taliban due to some sick fascination that's your choice. All in all, I don't see what the appeal is to want to play as those losers and attribute it to how pathetic and extremem our desensitization has become.

Exactly, there's a small percentage of troops that experience PTSD so things of violent nature remotely resembling the trauma they experienced would cause problems. I think before people go ranting and making negative statements towards a particular game, they should try to understand what the developers are trying to get across to gamers.

Still, I don't think that is appropriate, but I also doubt the purpose of a playable taliban member is intended to be what you're describing. BUT, i could be wrong, the game isn't out yet to find out.

the more backlash this game generates, the more people are gonna wanna play it. Even the people who may be against it would prolly purchase the game to satisfy their curiosity. MoH has always been a WWII shooter, the one time they decide to set their sights on modern day combat, people piss their pants because of one of the new innovations that they implemented.

While it may not state in detail that they are Taliban members/terrorists, they are still middle easterners going against American/allied troops so it seems close enough that they would be those terrorists.

Whether it was necessary or not, you have to look at it from the developers side. With MoH, it's been quite some time since they've released a game, since then CoD has been garnering attention. EA probably implemented that element in order to set that game apart from it's leading competitor.

Oh, yeah, its totally implyed thats who they are. But i think for some people, its easier to gloss over if they don't actually see or say the name "Taliban". Admittedly, I guess I kinda fall into that category in this discussion.

No, its really not. But I guess they're really trying to make the game feel "real" and push the envelope, and they feel that the only way to do that is by not dancing around the identity of the enemy in the game.

ehhh...i think that might be a stretch to say that is enough to set it apart from COD. Not saying you're wrong, just that if thats the case, the developers should be taking more time to make the story, graphics, missions better/different, because using the word "taliban" isn't enough (or the right way to do it), imo.

True, the whole Taliban thing may jus be one of the big innovations made. There may be other small ones that give it a different type of feel, also the pacing may be a little bit slower and not run and gun like MW2 can get.

When I was a kid video games were quite different, a lot of it was all-ages stuff and most importantly, the technology wasn't there to create realistic simulations of war and death. So I concede that children nowadays are exposed to a lot of material that can affect their views on reality.

But that doesn't change the fact that games like this AREN'T FOR CHILDREN. They aren't legally allowed to be SOLD to children. So if children are playing these then it is purely the fault of the parents who aren't doing the research.

There isnt a match called "SUPER TAILBAN US MURDER SLAUGHTER!!!!!" it's just the setting, which is probably Afganistan, and one of the sides happen to be the taliban. Or some variation of it.

I mean, the first reports from Fox about MW2 was that the airport level was a US airport, and you were mowing down US citizians....which obviously wasnt the case. And it was, a HUGE point in the story.

yeah, i can't argue the idea that people have knee jerk reactions to things, especially when it comes to the media.

My point is simply that those who have reason to feel uncomfortable about the taliban thing aren't necessarily being super sensitive and unreasonable.
