EGM rumors "GTA style Batman"

The latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly has once again provided some juicy rumors care of the Quartermann column. Q has added some kindling to rumorang fire of Okami for the Wii, suggesting that Capcom is already developing an upgraded port.

On the Square Enix front, rumor has it that Kingdom Hearts has a "series of prequels currently in-the-works for a number of consoles and handhelds." That would fall in line, at least partially, with what Tetsuya Nomura said back in May that the next KH game would not be KHIII but rather a spin-off for portables.

The third rumor presented is that "a popular studio" is working on an open-ended, Grand Theft Auto-style title based on Batman.

Im guessing thats The Dark Knight?

Holy hell, if this is true, ill flip. Chances are the overall game will suck being that its based off a movie, but i dont care, a free roaming Batman game WILL be the shiit.

He'll get missions from a pimp called Luigi, and then a Yakuza Don who he can later assassinate.

Eventually he turns black and returns to his real home on Grove Street because his real Mom has also been murdered. Then he takes missions from his brother and "Big Smoke".

It's about freaking time. This is like one of those can't go wrong ideas. Especially if Pandemic is involved. I've always wanted something like this for Batman.

Batman + free roam = mind explosion.

Batman should have large levels, and be free roam, but they shouldn't have a huge Gotham City. Something the size of one of the islands from GTA3, only with super-tight, dense design, would be MUCH better.

Yeah its kind of a no brainer for batman to have a free roam game. 3 Super Heroes that must have free roam
Spider-Man
Batman
Superman.

If they make it that small. They better have some damn good replay value.

That's one large freaking area whether you're going to travel on foot or in the Batmobile. Besides, Batman does much more than just walk around on street levels. They'd have a great verticality to the city calling for lots of detail in every aspect. Gameplay needs to be as fun on a building side or rooftop as it would be on the ground.

Well it HAS been done (kinda before) with Batman and Robin on the PSX. (which I enjoyed despite being crap, full of bugs and stupid). Should be great. Especially if its not based on the film. If it is, then it'll probably be a bit meh.

Yea, im with you on that, but i highly doubt this will be that. Being this close to the next installation of Batman Begins this has to be The Dark Knight:The Game. Theres a ton of comic characters id like to see get their own games based of their comic and Batman is DEFFINTLY one of em, this just isnt gonna be that game.

i might act a lil' more excited if they knew who the "popular studio" was. personally, i'd love to see a Batman video game similar to Assassin's Creed.
