EGM rumors "GTA style Batman"

y'know, for once I'd like to see a game do ANYTHING with Batman's detective skills. it's one of his defining characteristics, but has been completely ignored in videogames.

Because detective games are ****ing boring.

You spend an hour going around a room looking for one little piece of paper, then you go back to the batlab and spend an hour doing DDR or Pipedream or Puzzel/matching minigame to figure out that you have to go back to the warehouse and look for the other half of that piece of paper, in which you do it all over again.

That's why they never put that **** in there.

When has Batman ever done that?

I think a mission where you have to break into a hideout and look/steal incriminating evidence would be cool.

Heh, very true. They should show his detective skills via cut scenes, not ****ty game play.

I'm not saying it's supposed to be an exclusively detective game. but it is something I feel they could easily incorporate if they're creative. think something like Indigo Prophecy.

I think making it a sandbox GTA clone is just too simplistic.

Never played Indigo, but the most I could see is something like, you don't have to do this detective stuff. Like, you COULD spend more time in a building after beating some thugs using special goggles to find trace elements of this and that, and it would make it easier to beat down bosses and such.

Like on Bioshock where you take the pictures of the guys, and the more you take pictures, the more damage you do. You don't have to do it, but it makes the game more fun/in depth. Know what I mean.

that could be a compromise. maybe not exactly the way you descibed it, but it could be something that could open up other branches to the story, with multiple endings depending on how you played the game.

IMO though, if they're gonna make a Batman sandbox game, it should be more compared to Assassin's Creed (with some elements from Splinter Cell) instead of GTA.

It should be more like GTA because you are in a city.

as in Assassin's Creed. only in AC you're not riding your horse all over the place. you're jumping from rooftop to rooftop, stand at the top of a huge building overlooking the city... feels a lot more like Batman then just driving around in a car.

But you need the batmobile :(

I'm not saying it should be excluded. they definitely should put it in there... for a couple of missions, where they can give us some great batmobile action, in some cool, unique situations.

they should focus more on making you feel like Batman, and personally, just having him drive around all over the place doesn't do it. I know Batman's supposed to be human, but he is a superhero, and having him driving for a good part of the game makes him feel more... dunno, normal.

hence, why I'd prefer something more akin to Assassin's Creed.
