Eli Roth's Trailer Trash

Just listened to Creative Screenwriting Magazine's latest podcast with Eli Roth for Hostel Part II and they talked a bit about Thanksgiving for Grindhouse and Eli said that he has talked to other directors about making a feature made up of trailers. He said they'd all be tied together by one element. Its a way to use all of the ideas for movies they have that would never be able to get made (no time).

Would ne one c it?

He said the other directors he got interested in doing it were: Edgar Wright, Robert Rodrieguez (sp?), Peter Berg, Howard Stern, etc.

Howard Stern? But isn't he a radio presenter?

Could be interesting. Would it be DTV or theater release? Because I can't see something like this getting a big release into the theaters.

i would imagine that making a trailer for a movie would be nearly as expensive and time consuming as shooting the movie itself... i mean, you still need to design costumes, sets, makeup, effects, and you'd still need to cast... y'know, all that pre-and-post production stuff... the only difference is that in making an actual movie you need those things for a longer period of time, and you'd need a full script, since you'd be shooting something that lasts longer than 3 minutes.

but, i could be way off.

still, though, i'd see this for sure. the trailers were the best part of grindhouse.

That's gonna be pretty funny to see, tons of people won't get it and then it will bomb at the box office, but this the dvd sales are gonna be decent and it's gonna be claimed a cult classic.

This whole project seems like it would work better as a website. Like Ferrel/McKay's funnyordie.com

That way whenever Roth, Zombie, Wright, or anybody just get bored between filming they can just post it.

not enough people give eli roth props to make him overrated. some people hate him, and others like what he's done. i'd say he's perfectly rated where he is.

and who cares what Roth has done? He makes stupid gore flicks. They are what they are.
