Ellen Page to Whip It!

We know now that Jimmy Fallon has the ability to grow facial hair from the trailer.

And Alia Shawkat =

If the trailer proves anything it's that Ellen Page has the range that so many people glibly claimed she lacked.

Looks good. I'll pretty much give anything with Ellen a chance. Some of the dialogue seems pretty witty too. "You came in second out of two teams" lol.

I'm not saying that Ellen Page isn't a good actress... but what? The trailer shows the same range she showed in Juno. Indie outsider chick. Not much stretch yet. Hopefully she plays a very different character in the future.

She played very different characters in Smart People and An American Crime. Unfortunately, no one saw those movies.

Give Ellen some credit, peps...she's barely 22 and she has a lot going for her.

Yeah, seriously. I guarantee that most of the people out there who say she has no range have only seen her in Juno. And on that note, just because Juno wasn't everyone's cup of tea doesn't make it a bad movie. Far from it.

Juno was cocky and sardonic, this character is clearly vunerable and insecure.

Hey, I've seen Smart People. Well performed but not very interesting plot. Church was awesome in that flick too.

I'll probably wait to see this flick on DVD but it looks pretty decent

Ellen Page is in Chris Nolan's "Inception" which is shooting now.

Thing is Ellen was so convincing as Juno that people believe she's exactly like the character and therefor can only play parts like that. Juno is basically the only time she played a character like that.

exactly.

The bottom line is this: I think actresses have it harder than actors from fanboys. that's just how it is unfortunately.

Well, I didn't mean literally everybody, haha. But yeah, I agree with you... good acting and characters... just kind of a thin story.

I'll throw two big meaty thumbs up to Sarge for his posts in this thread.

Loved the trailer, this joins Shutter Island as the only 2 movies on my "must see" list for the rest of the year, it just looks like fantastic fun and another great performance from young Ellen.

Actually, no. Juno SEEMED cocky and sardonic but as the film progressed it turned out she was actually vulnerable and insecure.. that was the point. This is like the reverse.

That's still not quite the same though. A character's progression/revelation(something every coming-of-age story has) doesn't mean the actor/actress portrays it the same. This character doesn't seem to be expressing her insecurity as sardonic or cocky nor does it seem like the sport causes her personality to become sardonic. Just confident and happy.

Juno was cocky and sardonic, and she faced the scary reality of teen pregnancy with that attitude. It didn't "turn out" that she was vulnerable and insecure, because anyone can be develop insecurities in the face of an unplanned pregnancy. They're two completely different characters.

Juno was very comfortable being Juno, she wasn't insecure in herself, what happens when she gets pregnant is that eventually the reality of how young she is and what this means for her weighs her down and she cracks, but she is secure in who she is. The character here appears to be someone introverted looking for who she is and whom is uncomfortable with who she currently is as she hasn't found the thing that makes her tick yet.

Trailer makes this look like a fun movie. I just need to decide if Ellen Page and Kristen Wiig in a movie will allow me to look past Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon.

What the hell is with putting the title twice right next to each other?

Am I wrong for saying that she actually looks good in that poster?
