Well the Ben Kingley character is spoiling the story because in the book
[BLACKOUT] he was a legend. A war hero thought to be dead by the public for years while his legacy lives on through propaganda videos.. The twist is that he's alive this entire time by the end of the end of the book. Literally, his character is revealed by the last three chapters or so.[/BLACKOUT]

The air battle scenes are really hard to imagine, I had to read them several times to figure out how exactly the concept should work. Or maybe I'm just stupid.

I can imagine them... I had no idea how they were going to do them in the film until I realized they were head to toe with narrow visors. Extensive CGI here we come!

Trailer looks good though, about what I expected. Star Trek meets somewhere between Harry Potter and Twilight. Not a bad thing, especially if they retain what made the books so great, which it look as though they mean to.

This looks awesome. One thing I'm wondering, I don't know if the 80s had this (as much), but the 90s saw A LOT of action films with children in the lead and just older actors as supporting. Somewhere along the line those film disappeared and the belief in Hollywood became, "make a 12 year old a 15 year old played by a 25 year old." Uh. Hopefully this film succeeds and we can get back to making those films. I'm sure that would help a lot of stories in how the creative team actually wants to make them.

The trailer did nothing for me, even with Han Solo and The Mandarin up in there.

Bloodrayne, anyone?

Guy Pearce is in this too! ?!?!?!

*cough*

Even though I read and am a fan of the book, and Gavin Hood being a fellow South African, I shall wait for the rental first.

I am a big, big, big fan of this book. Some of the visuals look cool, but my faith in this movie is very low. Trailer did nothing to really excite me either.

Looks like some movie you will see on Disney Channel...

Me either, I'm only curious to see the zero gravity battles scenes but otherwise it seems like it streamlined most of what the book has going for, which it's a shame but really there's no surprise when it comes to transitions from book-to-film, especially one which the studios expect it to be the next big YA hit like The Hunger Games.

Unless you're like a massive fan of the book on an LOTR/Twilight/Hunger Games level, I doubt the masses will care about the liberties taken. From what I know about the book itself, it seems they got the main stuff down aside from the kids being older.

Thoughts on the trailer....for those who haven't read the book, it probably looks like a pretty cool action film....for those who have read the book, you're probably asking where is the book.

There is action in the book, but so much of it is a child trying to understand what is being done to him by both the humans in total control of his life and the aliens in the background.

It might be a decent movie, I'll go see it because I've wanted to see an adaptation of the book for a long time. But to really get a feel of the book...so much of a movie adaptation needs to be with little kids (which they can't do)...so it doesn't feel right to me.

Well... it's being directed by Gavin Hood, and the distributor is Summit. I don't have high hopes for this adaptation.

Have you seen Kingsley's filmography? While a very skilled actor, he's done movies that were far worse than this could ever be.

Yeah one came out a few weeks ago. This looked pretty cool

Trailer was fine. Glad to see Ford in a sci-fi outfit. You start getting ready, Harry.
