What is your opinion on the best way to collect/catch up on the older issues, Essentials, Masterworks, or another way?

The Essential volumes, definitely...if you are looking to catch up. They may be in black and white, but you get the same story, and that's all that counts to me.

Amazing Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and soon, The Avengers have a CD-ROM that pretty much collects the full series, well, pretty much takes you up to pretty recently.

But if it's the books you're looking for, yeah, Essentials all the way.

The quickest way is the Essentials, because there's more volumes of those out.

The best way is Masterworks. Can't beat comics in colour. Which is why I get the Masterworks over Essentials. I hate black and white comics.

God, I can't believe I forgot about the damn DVD! Will I'll be ordering the Spidey and X-men ones real soon. For the other ones that dont have a dvd I'll have to see how much of a price difference there is between Masterworks and Essentials.

Masterworks are a bit too pricey for me, though they look great. I go with the Essentials 'cause I just want the story. Them being in B/W kinda sucks, but you learn to get over it.

Those DVDs are definite pickups.
