From IMDb:

"God took a beating at the box office over the weekend. The biblical comedy Evan Almighty, which reportedly cost $200 million or more to make, opened with only $31.2 million, and some analysts were predicting that the Universal movie would not earn $100 million during its domestic run."

It's a vaguely amusing concept. Steve Carell is funny. I might catch it on DVD or television. But why on earth would you spend $200m on this?!

The only way this movie can make its money back is if its a hit in the International market.

I plan on catching it on DVD. Yeah, the budget was way too big.

^That's what I plan on catching Epic Movie on.

Yeah, I know.
200 million was ridiculous for a budget. That's even alot of money for a summer blockbuster, and whoever thought Evan Almighty would fit that lore needed to be prayed over.

Where did all that money go?
They all probably thought it'd do as well as Bruce Almighty..

This of course,is a failure. Is this the sequel to Bruce Almighty? Why is such a film even made?

What I really hate is that Carrell is probably gonna take the blame for this from an movie executive stand point. They are gonna say "Steve Carrell wasn't a big enough star to draw money." What they should say is "The movie looked stupid, our trailers looked ******ed and our marketing departement is one of the worst ever."

There's already threads on this subject, but this film will need to make alot overseas to make it's budget back.

Exactly. The biggest thing was the concept -- Jim Carrey getting god's powers and having some fun with them -- good. Steve Carrell building an ark and getting collecting animals because of a flood -- god awful.

i wouldn't even bother then... i downloaded it the other day, and still felt cheated.

it's just as bad, if not worse than date movie. it feels like they were actually trying to make it as stupid as possible. i'm not sure i laughed once. they need to get the guy who directed not another teen movie to do all these spoofs. that was the last good one (and it was damn good)

but, on subject, i'm glad this movie is failing. there's no reason it should have cost so damn much. no reason at all. i can't believe they spend the money on this tripe, when there's far more deserving movies out there struggling to get greenlit.

I read that they ran into a lot of problems in production. I think they had to rebuild the ark.

As much as I like Carrell, my only real motivation for seeing this if I see my girlfriend in it. She got to be an extra 'cause she was visiting her family in Charlottesville, VA while they were filming.

You are absolutly right. Dumb and Dumberer, Son of the Mask, and now this. A pattern I foresee.
No more! Speaking of which, I guess those 'Ace Ventura Jr.' rumors died down, thank God.

they are dumb the people who thought of making this movie,

haven't they learned their lessons?

remember Poseidon? that tanked.

making movies that nobody will watch, whats the point?

200 mil??? Woa why such a big budget, they spider-man showin up or something lol.

Not a good idea at all, i'll probably dvd this myself doesnt look worthy of going cinema!

Hated it, one of the worst summer blockbusters and comedy films of this year :down
