Carell's "Evan Almighty" to cost $250 Million?!

this shouldn't phase Steve Carrell, if the movie bombs.

Honestly, I like Steve. I admire the fact he doesn't WANT to end his TV career (The Office). It shows that he's fairly humble.

I don't belive this until I see the budget numbers officially confirmed. $250 million for a movie like this just doesn't sound belivable. Anyone remember the rumours that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire would cost $400 million?

Being aware that 'Evan' will possibly fail (badly at that), oh how I wish Fox was the studio that's producing this instead of Universal. :csad:

If this piece of news is true, of course.

Even the initial budget seems very high for a comedy

Even CHUD.COM did reveal the huge huge budget, they're also labeling this as a bad movie already. Which it could be, but there's no trailer, nor poster...hell it's not coming out until next summer.

It's borderlining sabatage, on their part.

This budget is ridiculous. The first movie was good, but the only reason it was such a big hit is because people wanted to see Jim Carrey, yes Universal, JIM CARREY with God-power. Steve Carell, while very funny, doesn't have that type of appeal yet. He's not even a household name. I guarantee you if you went around polling random Americans, asking them what they thought of Carrell, the majority wouldn't know who you were even talking about unless you show them a picture or start rattling off roles that he's had. Jim Carrey, on the other hand, is a huge star that everyone knows. The general reaction to this movie from the general public, I GUARANTEE you, will be, "Jim Carrey's not even in the sequel? F**k that; I won't even see it on video."

Universal might as well write it off now as a liability in progress.

I hope all that dough is going straight into carrells pockets and they make some really low budget version....that would kick those producers in the balls

AND CARRELL IS NOT JIM CARREY!
One of the biggest reasons I'm looking forward to this movie. But yes, 250 mil for any comedy is just insane. This is going to have to be one ****ing amazing comedy for this to make back it's budget.

I hope this movie TANKS.

some of you guys need to get your head out of carreys unfunny ass.
ooo a carrey-less sequel. BEST DAMN THING THIS HAS GOT GONIG FOR IT IS DITCHING THE RUBBER FACED HACK

STEVE CARELL OWNS!

*btw, I basically mean what I just said, though I don't dislike carrey due to the cable guy, eternal sunshine and truman....he should do more straight roles....:woot:

I see you haven't heard of the suckinesses that were Dumb and Dumberer and Son of the Mask... :o

I love Jim Carrey, but I really don't see how they could continue Bruce's story.

I think it makes sense to have Evan next. Plus, Steve Carell is awesome.

Wow...I wish they couldve gave all that money to the Hulk sequel...they could've gotten a good director, "pleased" the fan, and there'd be so much money for Hulk smashing

:( -le sigh- :(

Well...they can still save their asses, if they get the marketing people from Passion of the Christ. Which went to churches all over the country getting religious people interested in the movie. They could have a even bigger movie than POTC...cause that movie was pretty tough for little kids,...and this is a comedy, and it probably won't have the sexual jokes like the last Almighty...so who knows.

But if the animals were so tough to work with....why didn't they use green screen? I mean...if they're afraid to have tigers and monkeys in a scene, shoot them separate then?

It's all in the marketing in my opinion. A lot of movies these days have horrible marketing. Sony...they're probably the best so far....and Disney of course.

the next SR.

Not really. Warner Bros intentionally spend $250m+ on Superman Returns, it was EXPECTED to be a huge hit by all, and in the end barely made it's money back.

Comedy + special effects + big budget = recipe for flop

See: Osmosis Jones, Monkeybone, Pluto Nash, Wicky Wicky Wild Wild West, Loney Tunes: Back in Action

Fair enough, but this is the first Carreyless sequel with some real talent behind it. I have to agree with jimmylace. I don't hate Jim Carrey at all but Bruce Almighty was just more of the same tired old Schtick. Same overexagerated manerisms and mugging. There was even some half-assed attempts at catch phrases. Comedically, Carell was a breath of fresh air in that movie.
