Faith Restored: Reynolds talks Deadpool

And so I decided to throw this in it's own thread because i feared something as important as this would get lost among the chitter chatter. Latino Review grabbed a talk with Reynolds and asked him about the character:

discuss! It fits into a lot of the suspicions and rumors. I'm pleased.

Being discussed in the Ryan Reynolds thread, but here's more info:

Faith Restored??? He confirms that Baraka is Deadpool????

I don't mind the discussion being taken outside of the Deadpool thread.

Anyways, sounds like the Wade fans aren't going to get the Deadpool they all know and love, despite Spaced And Confused.

Sorry guys :(

I'd say faith restored. He clearly said that Deadpool would be scarred and that he is "what Deadpool comes from". He also dodged whether he would be wearing the mask or not. I have a feeling that if he wasn't wearing the mask he would have clearly stated "no".

I agree about the mask answer, and he does confirm that at one point he will be scarred so it does sound much closer to what Spaced and Confused said than the alleged "early review" which I still call total BS on.

And his interview opened up an idea that I didn't think about prior to his comments. This is an origins film, as much an origins film for Wolverine as it will be for every other character in that movie, so basically this is the start of the character and it sets that up for Deadpool and a possible spin off. I don't get any hint of Reynolds being mad about the character or anything like that. It probably would have been a better idea when he was announced to just say he was playing Wade Wilson instead of coming out and saying Deadpool.

Cool stuff. Nice to know that the "reshoots" were planned, after all the drama and rumours flying around.

Now we just have to sit back and wait to see the movie.

It wasn't his fault...they released Deadpool toys:huh: That paired with the trailer confirmed what that was for fans. So now, he is doing damage control.

I personally, Fox may differ from me, but I personally don't consider him as Deadpool, I consider him to be what Deadpool becomes. Or the thing Deadpool came from. It doesn't carry on past that.

There's talk, because Deadpool is so popular, that Fox might want to do a spin-off. Would you be interested in that?

Reynolds: Ya, I love the character.

He's basically saying this will be the origin. It matches up with Spaced and Confused claims that by the end, the experiment Weapon XI will fail and he'll become the real Deadpool or something.

Reynolds also says yea he'll be scarred, the "barakapool" isn't really scarred, he's just bald and has a seal up mouth and blotches on his eyes.

When he means it doesn't carry on he probably means "barakapool" won't carry on?

I'm really sorry for asking a dumb-ass question, and I am a DP newb, but why is everyone calling the movie version of DP Barakapool? Whats the relevance? What or who is Baraka?

I totally agree with all of this. On this line:

Maybe they said Deadpool because we DO see him perhaps at the very end of the movie? When exactly does Victor Creed become Sabertooth? Isn't he Creed at the beginning of the movie but they are calling him Sabertooth? Could be the same here. Seems like they are always calling the characters by their alter-ego names. And it's true that this whole movie is an origin for everyone so it makes sense to set him up.

It's not a dumb ass question!

It's Deadpool + Baraka from Mortal Kombat which Deadpool seems to look more like!

It feels like people are forgetting who's directing the movie at times...

But anyway, I skimmed through the article and such.

I've never lost any faith in this movie because,....well, I don't believe anything that I can't see, honestly.

That's not hard to do when the director of this film seems virtually non-existent. I really would like to hear more from Hood. We've barely heard anything from him since he was announced as director.

Just because Gavin Hood is focused on making a movie and not kissing all the fanboys a** doesn't mean the film is in trouble.

Thanks very much for your reply, I appreciate it

Well it is a little bit, in that one would assume he has heard of Google.

Of course, I tried google first, and did see the Mortal Kombat references, but nothing about Marvel or Deadpool, so that's why I made the post. Now I see it is just a comparison to a character from another platform.

Yeah, this sort of shuts down that Deadpool will be our Deadpool in any real capacity in the film, but on the other hand opens up the possibility of a sequel much more, hopefully indicating Wilson will end the film very much able to easily transform into the Merc with a Mouth for a spinoff.

As Reynolds says though, that'd heavily depend on how THIS movie does, and how popular Wilson is as a character. Although I don't think a Deadpool movie would need/get a huge blockbuster budget anyways.

Well Reynolds does say he "plays Wade Wilson, and the creature that will eventually become Deadpool".

So he basically confirms that "barakapool" isn't the final version of him. He'll become the reject, failed experiment 'pool from the comics, set up for his own film. But yea that's if his character is popular.

It is a shame that there is probably no possibility for the real Deadpool to be in this film, but I never really expected that anyway. This is his origin as well as Logans.

Sounds to me like Wade Wilson is taken, used and abused, then returned on his path to be the true Deadpool from the books. What's wrong with that??? Kind of like Cyclops was taken, mind controlled, then returned to normal in X2.

Deadpool fans need to chill.

Yeah those two examples are nothing alike.

Good news. But I seriously doubt we will ever see Deadpool being truly realized on the big screen. But then again this is FOX and they need all the omey in the world so we can probably expect a cheap spin-of soon.

RYAN THEODORE SKYLAR TRAVIS KITCHEN REYNOLDS.
That is all.

Were you forced to read comic books?

I’ve read them before. I read the Deadpool series back in the ‘90’s. But I’m not a huge comic-book reader, per se. I’ll check out Archie when I’m in the grocery line but that’s about it.
Wasn't he supposed to be "biggest" Deadpool fan?

:whatever:
