OK, so I am reading Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park novel, and I am amased how dfferent it is than the movie. like A LOT!

So, is it good idea in the futurte to remake the movie more in the lines of the book? Maybe after Jurassic World is finished, they make another adaptation closer to the book?

What do you think?

We could’ve discussed this in the Jurassic thread. But to answer your question no. Many films based off books differ from the books in major ways, they have to. We can’t just start going back now and remaking films based off of books just to make them more faithful to the book. That’s my two cents.

If they ever were to remake Jurassic Park way, way in the future, a more faithful adaptation of the novel would be the most likely direction. But the industry has got too much respect for Spielberg. They don't have the balls to remake one of his films while he's still living.

Right now? It will mostly be a retread taking place during a story that uses a character who aged, but I think died in the original story.

That ship sailed the moment Jurassic World went into production. I'd let this current series play out, then wait at least two decades, in addition to however long it takes for Spielberg and some of the other associated big names to die or fade from the public eye.

Besides, given the whole "extended universe" kick that Hollywood's been on recently, faithfully carrying out the book's story (and wrapping it all up in one movie) would be a huge no-no to a lot of suits, especially considering that the sequel book was basically written under duress due to the franchise's popularity.

If they are going to do it, I would like to see it done like the Westworld remake and make it an HBO series. Trying to fit the book and its heavy emphasis on hard sci-fi philosophy into a feature film is probably impossible and it would inevitably be compared (probably unfavorably) to the beloved Spielberg classic. Budget would be a problem with a series though, but if it can be done, that would be the way to do it.

To be fair, the original book does end with a sequel hook.
