Great books that became good/bad film adaptions...probably already been done...

I actually HATED the ending to I am Legend, the novel. I thought it was trash! I understand how it relates to the title and the deeper meaning of him becoming the "new" terror rather than the vampires themselves but honestly... what a bull**** ending.

You. Yes you... never read a book again. You may have to face a deep ending that you will have to think about for more than a second.

And during the movei I feared I was going to witness it on film! As soon as that girl came to help him I found myself thinking: if it follows the same path as the novel, I'm walking out. but thank god it didn't! I love the movie though. And I'm glad they did kill Neville in a more heroic way. Than taking pills to his death.

Whoooooooooooooooooooooosh, is the sound the book's ending made going over your head.

Another Flick worth mentioning: The Warriors.

You're lucky you like the movie the Warriors. I would have been meaner. :hehe:

Alright here's my big list, still left some out:
Good to Great:
9. Bram Stoker's Dracula

Bad to Terrible
5. Dune, F****** Sting is in this movie!
6. The Beach
I liked the beach, :lmao: at the Sting thing and Bram Stoker's Dracula wasn't that good. Oldman and some nice visuals saved that movie. The acting was bad, Keanu Reeves was badly miscast and even he admited himself he wasn't very good in the movie.
Stephen King books/stories own this thread.

I thought 1408 was one of the better adaptaions of his books in recent years. Better than Dreamcatcher anyway.

I'm gonna say The Running Man was good but only because it was enjoyable prime Arnie 80s action cheese.

I thought Empire Of The Sun was a good adaptation

but it was well-adapted, seemed to stay true to the book, even used the story devices of telling the stories through letters and journal entries which I thought was a little much.

Yeah - Starship Troopers was given a truly horrible adaptation; it makes me cringe just thinking about the movie...

The acting and actors were sooooo beyond awful in the movie. It's bigger names were Doogie Houser and Denise Richards, I mean seriously? I hated it!

I will never forgive my friend for saying, "I don't understand why Casper Van Diem isn't in more movies?" I almost punched him. Just bc somebody has a square jaw and is handsome doesn't mean he should be in more movies!

it has got to be Dune even though the film is watchable in my eyes (there may be a tear coming from it though), the book is one of the true masterpieces of science fiction writing and the film did not do it justice, David Lynch and Kyle Mclachlan are gods though

I wholeheartedly agree. Honestly though, I didn't think the book was that good, and the ending was especially awful to me. I prefer the film scenario and premise personally. To each their own.

From a story/character point of view, I would actually say that Jurassic Park was a bad adaption of the material - Lost World even more so. But...the effects and visuals were there, so I guess it doesnt count.

Another Crichton novel - Timeline. Pretty awesome, dire film.
