Frigging beautiful.

That's a damn good scene.

How long was the Waid/Ringo run?

This is a thread devoted to discussing the issues on the shelf. Previews and Spoilers should be expected. But don't spoil until the day after the issue is released pleased. Or put 'em in tags. You know the drill.

Let the thread begin.

FANTASTIC FOUR #557

Written by MARK MILLAR
Pencils & Cover by BRYAN HITCH
“World’s Greatest” concludes! It’s the ultimate engine of peace pitted against Reed Richards’ most lethal invention, for all the marbles! And a shocking final page that’ll have you feeling every minute of the thirty-day wait until the next issue!
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99

This issue comes out May 21st.

They have a preview over at Newsarama.

There's some interesting spoilery stuff there.
Tony Stark and Dr. Doom have always been the experts when it came to armor and the like. Well Reed decided to give it a try and went a little overboard it seems. You've heard of Hulkbuster Armor.

Here's Reed's Anti Galactus Armor.

I actually like the idea. BP can't be the only one with a Galactus plan, though I sure would like to see either one of them have the plan to use it.

I loved this issue. Felt like this was that "Breakthrough" issue for Millar and Hitch. Their run so far had been a little up and down...but this issue was great.
Cliffhanger has me interested and the action sequence with Johnny was gorgeous.

Yeah, I LOVED the part where Johnny lied about visiting children with Leukemia. :whatever:
(At least it's more acceptable than sleeping with an unrepentant bankrobber, I guess)
Check around the net for other opinions on Millar's FF. Most fans despise what's happening, especially how he's turned Johnny into an amoral creep.

In just a few issues, Mark Millar has managed to accomplish what no supervillain ever has: He has killed the Fantastic Four.

Wow..Pretty harsh.

Like I said though, I felt this was the issue that I had been waiting for from Millar. It was easily the best from his run yet. The FF desperately need some life breathed into them. Millar has a couple of interesting little subplots running right now.

This issue was a landmark/turning point for me, too.

I've read FF for decades, and I have every consecutive issue...

And my collection now stops at 559.

Millar's desperate need to rely on shock tactics in order to keep a readers' attention has sucked the joy, whimsy, and spirit out of the characters.

It's unreadable... and I've suffered through some pretty harsh stretches with this book.

Gotta say I hated it. When you have major villians jobbing to some new creation you always diminish previous work. This takes away from so many great stories. Johnny isn't like that, he's actually a decent guy, not an amoral *****e (though his fight was well done). I'm sick of nu earth and getting preached to by Millar about corporations, the envirnment and how people are bad. For the death of the invisible woman she was barely in this issue. 1982 and Wolverine are examples of good millar stories, this is just horrific.

Does someone sneeringly call someone else an idiot in this issue? Because god that just never gets old.

If I ever picked up a Mark Millar comic and every single character didn't sound like one of the coke-addled guests at Paris Hilton's annual Hey *******s, I'm Rich! Gala, I just don't know what I would do.

Agreed. I think Mark genuinely loves these characters, but that doesnt mean he's automatically the right guy to be writing them...

Millar is just like Bendis.

They think they are the quintessential people who have the right tell whatever story THEY see fit, despite regularly sham on years of estblished continuity.

We are the Peanut gallery..and are probably harsher and geekier than we should be.

But no.. no name punks pwnn the Big G..this is unforgivable ..especially after my Nova doesnt even make the big G wink in his direction.

It's a big slight IMO.

Working for Marvel takes a special kind of genius...like Slott and Gage , DnA etc..guys who can work within a continuity yet yield good tales.

Do we even know for sure that this is Big G is the 616 version or if for sure this is Big G ? Remember that Johnny asked if that was him.

Another thing, did anyone notice the New Defenders' reference to Doom not "talking/answering" and then when Johnny made Big G reference Doom said "what are you mumbling about" ? Something not quite right there.

Do we have some reason to give a **** one way or the other?

It's either ridiculous nonsense for shock value... or it's ridiculous nonsense for shock value and then Millar calls takebacks on it an issue or two later. Tell me why one would be any less of a waste of money than the other.

I'm just in it for Hitch's art, which hasn't disappointed.

Yeah I'm a big FF fan and this is just not doing it for me, I haven't picked up this issue yet and from what I've read on here I'm not getting to excited.

Wow, I'm glad I trusted my instinct to not read anything Millar writes at the start of this run. Sounds like it steered me in the right direction, as usual.

Damn, didn't even notice that the F4 board got the boot.

Oh well..for the best anyway. No one ever posted there.

Quick question about the 'Other Earth' of the last(?) arc. What was the point of trillions of dollars being spent to create an artificial Earth in another dimensional space if there is already a counter Earth on the opposite orbit to Earth, and Counter-Earths have been created by cosmic eggs and cosmic cubes and infinity gems in the past? For one thing Reed and the illuminati currently have the infinity gems, so on hearing the idea and visiting the planet, it would seem easier for him to request a one time use of the gems to create an empty duplicate.

Presumably, Reed is of the mindset that "never" actually means never. As for the other methods of creating a new Earth or using an existing one, eh... it's Millar.
