As far I can tell no one has made a topic for this game yet.

Far Cry 2 is an open-world/free roaming first person shooter set in Africa.

The game comes out in October and it will be available for PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3, but the actual release date keeps slipping around.

So, let's discuss what is sure to be the best shooter of 2008. :yay:

Far Cry 2 is already out: it's called "Crysis." ;)

Can't say I'm terribly interested in either game though. Far Cry had amazing eye candy, but I felt the gameplay was somewhat shallow. Crysis looks cool but I can't possibly afford a system that will run it nicely, and for all intents and purposes Far Cry 2 looks like a knock off of the original to me.

Farcry gameplay wise wasn't shallow compared to other shooters of it's day. The main problem was the story I think, Personally. The chick in hot-pant's and a tied shirt showing off her ab's, the campy monsters with the evil scientist, the red shirted Jack Bauer character being the baddest alpha male ever (like every game ever), they are rubbish at story-telling, Crysis has the same problem, four fifths into the game it turns into a bad episode of stargate 1. I think they have Uwe Boll writing for them. Hopefully Ubisoft does better in that department.

The game sounds more like something along the lines of S.T.A.L.K.E.R than the prevous pc and console game devoid of the halflife/Halo style in which you follow a linear path with scripted sequences shooting everything in sight. Some of the featured sound interesting like joining factions which you can decide to kill off at any point, NPC's saving you and repairing your broken down car, could just end up being gimmicky though, it would be nice if it wasn't, not enough games use the kinda Deus Ex style of game play.

All i know is i had a horrible experience with a Far Cry game and i just dont know if that can be undone. I played that Far Cry for the 360 and it was just downright horrid.

That makes sense because every Far Cry game except the original sucked pretty hard.

I loved the original, and I feel like this one is miles ahead of it. No mutants and no feral abilities; Just immersive open-world FPS goodness.

It wasn't looking as nice as expected, but still nice looking non the less, the Dunia engine isn't on a par with the cryengine 2 it seems. (wich it uses about 2-3 percent of). These are pc screens btw.

Couple more screenys: http://kotaku.com/photogallery/farcry2/

The level editor looks pretty easy to use.

Good looking game, im sure ill try this out at some point.

Ok, after seeing that, I'm absolutely going to try this game. Up until that video i had little to no interest in this game, but I'm gonna give it a try. That MP looks pretty damn fun. Maybe ill ask for this one for Christmas.

Yeah, the multiplayer looks great. Here is a little extra info on multiplayer...

The classes you can choose are...

Commando - Mid-range assault class. Effective at fire-and-movement tactics.
Sharpshooter - Long-range specialist. Armed with highly accurate weapons.
Guerrilla - "Short-range class. Specializes in close combat and ambush tactics.
Rebel - Specialist in explosives and fire. Strong on offense or defense.
Gunner - Heavy firepower specialist. Highly effective from static firing positions.
Saboteur - Equipped with silenced weapons. Specializes in stealth tactics.

You can upgrade each class up to three times. In Player matches you can upgrade a lot faster than normal, but your upgrades will reset after each match. In Ranked matches the upgrades come slower, but you can keep them for good.

Sounds like fun.

Good to see the releases this week were all up to par in the review category.

I got it today been playing for a an hour or two. Alittle dissapionted. Stilll seems decent but still, seems like a more simplstic S.T.A.L.K.E.R. You can't change your firing rate, lean or go prone or sneak, you don't really converse with the NPC's or have an invintory for upgrading armour, you can buy weapons and stuff which is cool. Too many unlimited health kits lying around and the driving is kinda lost alot of fun, you can only really drive on the road, the tree's aren't destructible like Crysis so if you drive into even a tiny little tree your car just bashes against it. It's still a decent game though, proper sandbox game like stalker and there's no stupid health or sheild regen stuff, no hud either unless you are healing yourself. The tutorial was way too long, the game isn't that complicated. Setting stuff on fire is pretty cool, the wind carry it and it spread pretty fast all over the place. The animations for some of the stuff is neat, there hasn't really been any loading, even entering buildings wich is cool.

why are you comparing this to stalker? the two arent even related and this is a far better game.

How's the first one?

FC Predator Instincts? I think it's down to like 20 bucks...tough it'd be a nice pick up? Is it even needed to play the second?

NOOOOO! Thats the one i played for the 360 that has scared me from this series. That game is HORRID in EVERY way! DONT play that one.

If you can't see any similarity's you must be blind.

this is a far better game.

Opinion. Wich I disagree with. It's like a Nick Jr version.
Still enjoying it mind...

Yet to try it.

This game really doesn't have anything to do with with the previous farcry games,

About six hours in the lack of changing firing rate, lean, prone or sneak has become really, really, really anoying. Even if they had to make compromises from the controller it's inexcusable. I'm sure there would have been a workaround if they put there mind to it. In a game that's suppose to be an immersing believable open world sandbox, the lack of this is just dumb. I hope they patch it or someone mods in what they should have had from the start. The combat is like Doom in Africa when your not in a vehicle. It's ruining what is an otherwise excellent game.

Ed: Actully the crouch acts as a pretty decent for sneaking enemys

Things like leaning and changing fire rate are small, unimportant details at best. Games like Call of Duty 4 dont have a lean or fire rate feature and it doesn't seem to bother them in the slightest.

However, im a big fan of small details in games. It looks like FarCry 2 adds some of this when you have guns that jam up on you, so i can see it being odd that they dont add a fire rate feature.

I think that depends on the game and the crowd really. If it's an instant gratification game that's pretty accessible and linear in approach, no.

In Call Of Duty 4, you take a few hits, move back, wait for your health regen and move forward. Take a few hits, move back, wait for your health regen and move forward. Getting hit is an inconvenient unless you purposefully ramp the difficulty up.

When you burst a few rounds in stalker or Crysis (or this game for that matter) at an enemy with iron sites from a distance your aim goes off due to recoil, if you change your firing rate to a single shot or a 3 bullet in concession at a time you can spit bullets freely, you have a steadyer aim. This adds some depth and options to the gameplay. As opposed to just, point, bang bang .

Leaning is important for these type of games, you do not have heath kits 5 feet away every 10 feet like halflife or health regen like COD or sheild regen like Halo (well you do in Crysis kinda), you drop fast. In stalker, without this or giong head on against 2-3 guys, you will get buttdrilled hard and fast.

Prone is good for concealment when you are in a large scale jungle enviroment wanting to pick off enemy's, Crysis or to the lesser extent it can be helpfull in Stalker as cover. This would work extreamly well in Farcry 2 as much like Crysis, there is lots of foliage. The height of the grass alot of the time in Far Cry 2 seems to be bafflingly lower than your crouch meaning you are more likely to get into repititve firefights without potential freedom on how to approach a firefight.

Taking all this away with just crouch and bang bang has taken alot away from the gameplay imo.
