Crysis 2 Thread

From what I had saw, a few weeks ago on IGN, they weren't too pleased with some of the controls, but either way I'm gonna get the game because it looks downright amazing, plus I had a lot of fun with the first Crysis

The Demo was cool but I never played the first one so unless they port the first one to Consoles I won't have enough interest to go out & buy this one

I played the demo a while back, and I wasn't very impressed with it. The gameplay felt sluggish, the framerate was all over the place, and the "Call of Duty-isms" were a little too on the nose for my liking.

I'll get it for PC. Wanna see where the story goes.
The Metlife building going down was awesome, btw.

I'm in two mind as wither to buy this game. Maybe just hold off for a steam sale. While it great to see a game really pushing hardware, properly, it looks alot different from what I liked about Crysis. Mainly, more linear, scripted and more action based. Even though it will be using DX11, it appears alot less is going on. I was watching a fellow play the leaked beta on youtube (which obviously isn't a representation of the final product) the tree he bursts a few rounds into doesn't react at all, it acts like an invulnerable object, which is quite a contrast from the first game. Almost everything would react to the player in a realistic fashion, every single leaf when a bullet wizzes past it.

The draw distance is has been cut off with buildings and the "sandbox" environment is more along the lineas of "slightly larger than the average FPS". It's also quite perturbing that it's the multi-player they have been attempting to pimp rather than the single player, which really, was the main point of Crysis.

Anyone picking this up today?

Iv been reading a bunch of reviews and the game seems to be really cool. IGN goes so far as to call the 360 version the best looking console game to date. I think im gonna run to GS and pick it up.

I'll pick it up just not today.when I get the time and cash for it I will. this oddly was one of those games I didn't pre order even though I have nearly all the prequel games. I didn't get the last onee red pack(or what ever it was called) that had the first mp. but anyways glad to see this turned out good despite the demos.

I bought it, played it for about an hour and was completely blown away. The game truly looks stunning. That nanosuit makes Master Chief look like a b***h, its like you are a human version of the Predator. The game, at least the sp, doesnt control like i remember the demo controlling. It's a lot more fluid. Really fun.

Glad to hear its awesome. I just got Homefront last week so I think I'll wait a bit before I get this, though it does look great.

Between this, Dragon Age 2, Shogun 2 I bought Shogun 2.
Which i'm quite chuffed about. Homefront looked like crap a mile away, it was never on my radar. Simply looking like Call of Duty is enough for games now, that's what it's gotten too. Outwagous.

Yea homefront was never high on my list. I thought it had a near idea for a story but the gameplay didn't match up with it. I thought homefront should be more like freedom fighters.

the multiplayer for Homefront is surprisingly pretty awesome, and the story is interesting though it really is only about 5 hours long which is really disappointing. I would have waited for Crysis 2 haha I had no idea this was coming out in March it always seemed like a this fall type of title.

It was a choice between this game (which i knew next to nothing about) and homefront. I took a gamble and picked up Crysis 2. I am sooooo glad that I did.

I'm about 2 hours into the game and its already become one of my favorite FPS games. The graphics are top notch, though maybe not as crisp as other games, but i think it gives it a "film"-esque video quality. While it might not have the "cleanest" graphics out there....it feels more "real" than 99% of other games' graphics...I dunno, its hard to describe. 10/10

Gameplay...its a really nice change of pace from all the Call of Duty clones. I love how you aren't forced through a scripted level; you get dumped into this massive area, and the game gives several ways of making it to the other side. The controls feel more natural than COD, more weight to the guns, etc. 9.5/10

The story doesn't seem to be too spectacular; they give you just enough information to make you scratch your head and want to know more; which I guess is fine. But this does seem to have the potential of being a somewhat more thoughtout story than the CODs and Bulletstorms. Can't give an accurate score here yet, but so far, I'll give it a 7/10.

I'm really surprised that this doesn't seem to be getting a lot of press, it deserves as many accolades as possible thus far.

the "Call of Duty-isms" were a little too on the nose for my liking.

what? How do you mean? This is what COD should aspire to be.

That's the beta. Play the actual game. As for the controls feeling sluggish, if you're looking for another super fast, twitchy game like COD, this isn't it. Its a more controlled, methodical shooter. But even with that in mind, the controls are far from sluggish....they're just right.

Ahhh Freedom Fighters, I loved that game, too bad EA didn't make a sequel to it, it had alot of potential. I'm definitely gonna be picking up Crysis 2.

I said screw it and went and picked up this today. It really is the greatest looking game on consoles. Wow everything about it just looks amazing. I'm only a few hours into the campaign and the story so far is pretty average but I've heard its around 12 hours long so that is a nice change. The nanosuit is awesome, I love how they just leave it up to you on how to take down your enemies. The multiplayer so far is is pretty sweet, the armor and stealth definitely add to the experience although there are people who just turn the stealth on and hide around corners but besides that its a pretty enjoyable experience. I'd highly recommend this game to anyone.

Are you sure you are looking at the same game I am? This game is gorgeous. What system are you on because the 360 is the superior version compared to the PS3.

This game has absolutely floored me. I'm currently renting it. I'm visiting Insomniac Games next week so I have to save money. This is a definite buy though! I'll be picking it up when I get back.

Finally a multiplayer component that manages to hold my attention. Video games lately have become such a drag. The lack of innovation has been rather unsettling. Crysis 2, while not 100% original, manages to take inspiration from Call of Duty. However, it implements it in such a way that it is able to keep its own identity.

That's what is compelling to me. The Nano-suit is a welcomed addition. I love being able to switch on the fly. It really adds a universal element to the players arsenal. Crytek did a phenomenal job crafting the suit as a character.

Most of the time, ala Halo, developers tend to try and make the player feel like a complete bad ass. Most of the time, they fall short. Crytek exceeded the bar. You FEEL a sense of power when playing this game. Definitely an impressive feat.

Actually this is a faster paced, less methodical game than Crysis, which wasn't sluggish for me at all.

There are only about three games that match or exceed it.
Saying that though, I don't like the art direction at all, just looks like any number of shooters now. Hell, you probably could mistake it for Call Of Duty.

There's no way you'd ever mistake this for cod, just too good looking but I will agree that bringing it to the city was eh probably not the greatest idea in the world since that is where every shooter takes place now

I'm confused by your statement, because not only did I rate the graphics 10/10, but I also said that they're top notch, and feel more real than 99% of other games. I don't have anything bad to say about the graphics.

I can only assume you're taking my comment about the graphics not being as crisp as other games wrong (for comparison, I just finished a replay of Uncharted 2 and Bulletstorm, which, having a more cartoonish feel in comparison, are more streamlined); but chalked that up to the emulation of film grain and how that actually HELPS the graphics feel "real". That's in no way me crapping on the quality of graphics; just something I noticed. I am an artist, so I tend to be anal about noticing such things. :yay:

What system are you on because the 360 is the superior version compared to the PS3.

I'm playing on a PS3.

because the 360 is the superior version compared to the PS3.

Heh, I would typically say that is debatable, and dependent on a number of things (fanboy bias, individual games, tv types, video settings, quality of connections, etc); I'll go ahead and listen to the studio (Crytec) behind the game: :cwink::awesome:

"At the moment, we're getting slightly more performance from PS3 compared to 360. I'm very confident that products using CryEngine 3 are going to come out as the best looking, or at least in the top three, on every platform."
