anyone used this add on for firefox, i had it recommended to me, but cant find any real reviews of it

i tried it. more like slowerfox. It took half of the pages i was on that night about 15 minutes to load each. i deleted it and accepted the fact that firefox is no better than IE, unless you got the ad-free version.

The above person must be one of the few that have problems with it.

I've been using it for 2 years now, works just as advertised. One of my must-have addons for FF.

Best way to speed up firefox is within the browser really.
1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return.

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
Copy the following and place it in the serch bar and change the values of them to what is stated

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

^good advice. I've also found that images seem to load quicker if you set network.dns.disableIPv6 to "true".

Will this actually help?

If you have broadband, yes it will. Although I find it better, for me, to not put my maxrequests so high. Just something you have to experiment with. Also, the more requests you make, the more pressure you put on the website's server. I think the default is something like 4. I usually put it around 10 or 15.

I think you'll need to restart Firefox before the changes take effect.

As for Fasterfox, in some places I saw great speed improvement, in a few others it seemed the same or slower. Overall, I recommend it, although I don't think I run it anymore.

Holy crap. I didn't have Fasterfox on my work computer. Just put it on. Hype pages are loading crazy fast. And I'm only running in optimized mode rather than turbo charged mode. Although I also made the about:config changes, so it could be those.

I'll have to run some tests.

I think I have T1 will Fasterfox do anything for me? black_dust's thing didn't.

Try it out. You can always disable it and run firefox normally. And either way, fasterfox tells you how long it takes to load pages. So you can do some comparisons.

Yeah, click on the link and install it. You might get a message in the browser saying that you have to allow that site to install software, so allow it. Then install it like it says and restart Firefox. It's working for me.
