Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water

More variety in their western Wii U releases would do Nintendo good. They should localize it. Why not.

It won't sell for **** would be the why not, but considering how dry the 3rd party support is now, localizing it would only help to keep an active schedule of releases.

Steady releases would do the Wii U good. I'm really hoping we don't get too many more dry spells like this summer. MK8 and then ****ing nothing. I'd like a Wii U a month schedule for Nintendo.

Tomonobu Itagaki hints at Fatal Frame Wii U localization

"Read between the lines," Itagaki says in Facebook response.

Fatal-Frame-Wii-U-Itagaki-Hint.jpg

Former Team Ninja developer and current Valhalla Game Studios boss Tomonobu Itagaki has hinted at the localization of Wii U’s Fatal Frame: Oracle of the Sodden Raven coming westward.
In response to a post on his Facebook page, Itagaki said: “Hey guys, I strongly believe that [Fatal Frame producer] Kikuchi Keisuke will release the Fatal Frame V in America, in many countries. He and me have same philosophy from Tecmo days. That’s what I can say for now. I want you guys to read between the lines. Anyway I will play this game.”
Fatal Frame: Oracle of the Sodden Raven launched in Japan on September 27.
Thanks, NeoGAF.

Itagaki not only no longer works at the company, the decision is up to Nintendo, not Tecmo. This article is literally worthless. Maybe we should actually hold off on updating this thread and the many others you start about non-localized games until they actually have something official about localization? is that asking too much?

yep it is asking alot lol way I'm sure the one that made the article is being corrected by his fellow workers if not the people that are reading the article just cause he said the wrong words doesn't mean it won't fully happen alot has happen to be correct despite this one silly mistake alot from them has been accurate. that & there this https://www.change.org/p/nintendo-of-japan-north-america-localize-and-release-fatal-frame-on-wii-u-worldwide?recruiter=18328028&utm_campaign=twitter_link_action_box&utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=share_petition.

as long as other like game informer keep referencing them in their own articles Examples:

I will use them.

after all ign reported the TMnt game was indeed thing with Rocksteady o video while other news review sites said it was a rumore , also of which they (Rocksteady) said no it wasn't yet people here on the forum still head to it as a source.

Anyways the news is spreading

That was a big surprise to me. I honestly didn't think we'd see it localized here. They should also do a Bayonetta and pack it with Fatal Frame 2, I mean the translation is already done from the EU release.

Yay!!! Going to be scaring myself in the basement...

Well, I'll get it still. Really wish they would've done a pack in with a localized Fatal Frame 2, but what you going to do?

Here’s The English Version Of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. June 19, 2015 . 10:02am

Nintendo showed off English-language footage of the game during their E3 livestream

[YT]gXP0UCh2-NE[/YT]
Fatal Frame 5—known in the West as Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water—is coming to North America and Europe, and Nintendo showed off English-language footage of the game during their E3 livestream yesterday.

In Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, the water around Mt. Hikami, which is where the game is set, is cursed. Whenever you get rained or come into contact with large water bodies, you fill up a wetness gauge. This lowers your defenses, and so the goal is to keep yourself as dry as possible.

Interestingly, in addition to its main scenario, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water also has an entirely separate second quest that features Ayane from Koei Tecmo’s Dead or Alive series. In this story, Ayane is searching for a girl that has fled to the mountains after a failed suicide attempt, and this mode plays like a stealth game.

In Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water will be available this Fall on Wii U.

Interesting about the physical edition.

Here's what operation rain fall's up to

Recently announced, Fatal Frame V: Maiden of Black Water, will be coming exclusively to Wii U’s eShop on October 22. This digital only version of the game is also only exclusive for North America. For fans of the franchise this is not right and some have come together to form Operation Zero.

At first the campaign’s goal was to make sure Fatal Frame V was released in the West. After news of it’s localization announcement the movement could have claimed victory, but then news came of a limited edition of the game…only for Europe.Strange that the company would announce the games release in Europe and give no hint as to when fans could expect it in North America. Finally, Nintendocame out and announced that Fatal Frame V will be digital only in the North American region.
That brings us to Operation Zero’s campaign their case is as follows:
What opzero aims to do is to show publishers (specifically Nintendo of America) that there is a profitable demand for the Fatal Frame (aka project zero) intellectual property and customers have been waiting for this one especially.
What opzero has done so far is provided a voice for customers and fans of the Fatal Frame franchise to convince that this latest game was worthy for western localization. This was an ongoing endeavor that took about a year, but it seems to have worked as illustrated in the Nintendo Direct announcement-
1.gif

The fact that they specifically acknowledged “fans clamoring” possibly alludes to the fact that Nintendo of America is listening and heard opzero.

16GB is the file size for Fatal Frame 5 so that renders the standard WiiU console ineligible for downloading the game unless NoA is expecting customers to purchase an external hard drive with a power source as well (and a power strip too). Even the deluxe model WiiU which despite being 32 GB is actually closer to 22 GB will not leave much room for anything else.
Operation Zero is planing a call in day on September 8 starting at 10Am EST/7AM PST. Individuals interested should join this cause with Operation Zero as we try to change the minds of Nintendo of America and bring Fatal Frame V, physically, to the fans.

Like previous games in the Fatal Frame series, the player must defeat vengeful ghosts by taking photographs of them. However, in Maiden of Black Water, the Wii U GamePad functions much like a camera to take these photographs.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water releases for the Nintendo Wii U on October 22nd, 2015 in North America, and October 30th in Europe.

Fatal Frame: Maiden Of Black Water Might Be The Best Shooter On Wii U. October 20, 2015 . 6:30pm

What’s interesting once playing is that the gameplay design is not traditional survival horror. This game is not about disempowering the player or resource management or hiding from certain death. It’s a shooter.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is a Wii U exclusive title that emphasizes use of the GamePad. Without treading on any toes, I think that we can all agree that there have been enough failed motion control schemes by now that any new motion controlled game should be approached with caution (if not outright skepticism). Fatal Frame 4 on the Wii featured terrible motion control and playing through a game that fights you for control is never a good time – I approached this game with trepidation. My concern was unfounded. The new Fatal Frame plays great.

The GamePad has always been quite a good motion controller, but the weight and shape prevents most games from utilizing it. It makes perfect sense in the context of holding up a camera though. I never once had to fight with accelerometers not reading my angle or sunlight disrupting sensor bar connectivity or any other faux pas of motion control past. I was instantly and intuitively able to use my camera. Whether ghost busting, secret unlocking, or peeking around a corner the gamepad never once impaired my experience.

What’s interesting once playing is that the gameplay design is not traditional survival horror. This game is not about disempowering the player or resource management or hiding from certain death. It’s a shooter. Not the guns blazing kind of shooter, but a shooter in the grand Treasure tradition of canvassing your screen with moving patterns that need to be cleared as efficiently as possible.

Here are the variables you’re playing with: A picture with more targets in it does more damage, a picture from up close to the target does more damage, a picture sometimes needs to be focused on a specific weak point, a picture of an enemy taken while they’re in an attack animation gives a “Fatal Frame” special attack for massive damage, and enemies that take damage release floating ghost fragments that act as additional targets to rack up higher damage per photo. Oh yes, and you can’t rapid fire. The camera recharges after every snap.

That’s quite a list there, and it leads to all sorts of fun decision making. One early encounter has the game throwing endless waves of minions at the player that protect a central boss. Tons of weak ghosts charging you gives easy high damage group photographs, but the minions also go out of their way to get between the camera and the boss. So then is it better to destroy the Canon fodder to clear a path to the real target, or is it better to try and maneuver to get them in the frame also for higher damage on the boss? The high score hunter will take the risky road and use the lesser ghosts as offensive enhancements. The first time I played the level I barely survived, but I’ve since gone back and performed exponentially better. Pro tip: The strafe speed with the camera up is too slow to line up a good boss shot. Learn to run in third person and then quick draw that thing like a six shooter.

On top of all that there’s a player controlled difficulty variable within levels also. The more wet your avatar gets, the more aggressive and dangerous the enemies become… but there’s a sweet score bonus in it for you if you can clear a level mostly soaked. Levels are generally short and give score rankings at the end. The campaign isn’t long start to finish, but like all shooters of this style the point is to replay levels in pursuit of optimal play.

In fact, I eventually found myself wishing that this game wasn’t a horror game at all. Once I wrapped my head around how this game works many of the horror trappings became annoyances. Yes yes, you’re very scary game – now can we get to the part where I’m juggling half a dozen things trying to kill me and I only have time for three photographs before I take a score penalty? I didn’t skip cutscenes because it’s my responsibility to the Siliconera readership to experience the story of the game too, but I sure wanted to sometimes.

We’re probably not going to get a Sin and Punishment game for the Wii U – but a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Playing Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is a blast.

Lack of a physical edition means I will never play this game.

I will at least be testing out the first chapter.

Yup. Chapter 1 and some of Chapter 2.
