What is the modern music video they used as an example in the clip, with the chicks taking a nap by the pool in overcast conditions for some reason?

Kubrik's 2001 has the most spectacular photography I've seen, though I haven't watched it start to finish.

I personally think Lawrence of Arabia looks better than most movies looked in the 80s (and dare I say, better than most movies in the advent of digital grading).

West Side Story has the most interesting use of color I've seen, though some of that could be due to art direction and film processing.

Nobody has to mention Citizen Kane, but I will anyway.

Blade Runner should get a nomination for best atmosphere.

I think Malick is the best visual American director. Storywise, I'm not really a fan of his style..but I like his first three movies.

Hugo. I saw it in the theaters in 3D and it was visually stunning. I've watched it in 2D also. Scorsese did a remarkable job filming it. The depth, the colors, everything.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned it.

I just love Hitchcock, fave film maker.

I met him many years ago when he visited the performing arts center at UC Santa Cruz. He was kind of grumpy and dry (and funny). Not much different than when you saw him on TV.

I suppose that you met him in the 70s?

Lucky, I'd give anything to have met him.

Yeah. I think it was around 1977 or something. I realize I'm dating myself, but that's okay; no one else will date me.

He wasn't moving too fast in those days, but he seemed pretty sharp. I forget why he came up there. Maybe it was just a guest lecture or something. Maybe someone in the Performing Arts program knew him or something?? Maybe he just liked central California....

I also highly enjoy some of the older Tyrone Power titles, which boast exceptionally striking cinematography. Captain from Castile uses a more muted Technicolor palette (still lush), while Prince of Foxes has some indelible B&W photography.

Just beautiful.

Currently got Lawrence of Arabia on in the background, it's on Film 4 now, and it really does 'pop' with it's print and the shot selection is second to none.
