Mark Waid - his Justice League run was a masterpiece and included maybe the best JL story of all time in Tower of Babel. He’s one of the top Superman writers and he also wrote the best Flash comic all time. And lest we forget that he wrote the best comic all time in Kingdom Come
Jack Kirby-nothing really needs to be said. His Fourth World work is masterclass. Kamandi is brilliant. I love everything he touched.
Alan Moore- Watchmen, V for Vendetta…so amazing. And Miracleman may be my favorite work by him. Then lest we forget that he wrote two of the three best single issues all time in For the Man Who has Everyrhing and Anatomy Lesson. He is great even if I think Killing Joke is overrated.
Steve Englehart- maybe the best Batman writer all time. Strange Apparitions is a classic. And Noght of the Stalker is my all time favorite Batman comic and my all time favorite single issue comic.
Peter Tomasi- best modern day Superman writer hands down. His Batman and Robin and Detective runs were no slouch either. And Super Sons is just pure joy.
Tom King- maybe no one has done more to elevate the medium in the past 25 years. Mister Miracle, Omega Men, Human Target,…they’re all instant classics and perfectly crafted. And Up in the Sky is the best Superman book maybe all time.
Denny O’Neil- possibly a lazy choice but his impact cannot be denied. And he has written so many classics from Five Way Revenge and his Batman run, to Hard Traveling Heroes. I also love his Question run. And Richard Dragon: Kung Fu Master is a guilty pleasure.
Marv Wolfman- CoIE, A Lonely Place of Dying, Judas Contract…he has so many all time classics and he is a master of the event comic.
Scott Snyder- at times he is obnoxious and a bit heavy handed with the exposition, but his talent cannot be denied. His Batman run was important and added a lot to the character’s mythos, but I also find his Swampt Thing run to be criminally underrated.
Greg Rucka- the guy can flat out craft a story. Possibly the all time best Wonder Woman writer. He also did amazing work on Superman. And he was the architect of some great Batman classics such as No Man’s Land and he wrote a good majority of Bruce Wayne Fugitive, which is great. My favorite work by him is the underrated gem, Huntress: Cry for Blood.
