World Favorite Score?

This has probably, no scratch that, it has to have been done before, but I'm curious. What is your favorite score of the three movies? And which is your favorite theme? (non-movie ones apply here)

I've been a little more into X-Men this week after watching Hulk vs and reading some of my old comics so I went and listened to parts of all 3 scores today.

With that said, I have to go with Michael Kamen's score to X1. It just screams 'X-Men' to me. Before the film ever even came out I always imagined music like this when I read or thought about X-Men. The theme is edgey, kind of sinister but still heroic. And the Magneto/Brotherhood string theme is just awesome. I always find myself humming it whenever I see Mags. t:

John Ottman's X2 was lame, IMO. I just am not feeling it.

John Powell made a great attempt with X3, easily a close second, but Kamen's score just oozes the atmosphere of the whole X-world far more. The only thing from it that's really iconic, IMO, is the Pheonix theme. A truly epic piece of music for a character/story arc that deserved so much more.

So anyway, X1 is the definitive score for the X-Men, as far as this nut is concerned. It just hits every chord perfectly. From the main theme heard best in 'X-Jet' to the action pieces to that absolutely gorgeous piece called 'Logan and Rogue'...this one is really the bee's knees. The movie was far from perfect, but it too was also the best of the series, IMO. This is about the music, however, so enough of that.

One of the things I loved about the X1 score was that there was also a hint of electronica mixed into the score. Fav track is 'X-Jet'. Plus the music they used in the trailers were great too.

X2, was decent.

X3, was ok but at times sounded like they were trying too hard to get that superhero epic sound. And I didn't like that Powell repeated the theme over and over again.

yeah something always seemed forced to me about the x3 score. never cared for it much, i actually wish that they had used a few pieces from the previous movies to connect the scores. but no...

i do really enjoy the x1 score. i still have it around my room somewhere!

and i dont really remember the x2 score at all!

I gotta say, I'm a little surprised. Sure, it's only two other people in this rousing success of a thread, but I've always been under the impression that Ottman's X2 score was the favorite among the majority of fans...

Can't complain though. As I said, I thought it was sufficient enough to do it's job, it's not like I hated it, but overall it's pretty lame. Just doesn't connect with me at all.

Kamen's was my favorite. The mix of orchestra and synths worked real well and was, IMO, quite appropriate for the X-Men.

Without so much as a second thought, it is X-Men: The Last Stand

And it's not even close.

They all have different merrits. Each movie having its own score made it difficult for the trilogy to form its own collective identity, but distinguishes every movie as its own completely different experience.

Kamen's X-Men score is a little bit bland to me, and didn't really distinguish the X-Men as their own group, nor did he enhance much for me. I loved his scores for Magneto and the Logan-Rogue theme. But his music certainly fit the first movie.

X2 was a bigger and more exciting movie. Brian Singer's superhero movies tend to pick up like the star trek/star wars movies, of which he is so clearly a big fan. The first one is more down to earth, contemplative, has trouble finding its feet, and almost boring (well, definitely boring in the case of star trek 1). The second one (which we wont see with superman, apparently) is bigger, more sweeping, more fun, and better in almost every way. Ottman's score reflects that. His score for each character fits very well, his theme for the X-men as a whole, if underwhelming, clicks together the entire universe. My favorite part was certainly his Jean-Logan theme.

Then came X-Men: The Last Stand. This is a movie that I hate. It isn't just that it was a weak adaptation. The film was slapped together very quickly, with terrible decisions made without much thought of how it would affect the characters' legacies, the audience, or even the movie itself. But one aspect does a fantastic job of making the movie feel like an "X-Men" story, and one with well-done action sequences and emotional impacts for that matter, is Powell's score. Sometimes it feels kinda bloated and over done, because, as it has been said, he plays the hell out of the main X-Men theme. But his score is a fantastic listen, and enhances an otherwise hard-to-watch movie, creating something out of nothing.

X3 has the best score hands down. Powell is a genius, and that score is fantastic.

The Last Stand had a score that was deserving of a far better film. And it featured, in my opinion, one of the best villain themes ever - Jean's. Definitely the best in my opinion.

X2 comes in second with the various character themes (Storm's and Jean's, particularly) and a great team theme.

If it wasnt For X3's score it would be A LOT harder to watch for me.... But damn the score just moves it along and really helps out.

The only part of the music i didnt like was the Danger room, but that whole scene was garbage.

The pheonix themes were astounding... and the "x-men" theme really sounded like X-men to me, when they were jumping out of the blackbird is probably the key moment in X3 success of the X-men theme.

Cyclops had that cool biker theme, Also Angels theme was very well done, very majestic... Its just that these characters didnt live up to their themes in this movie! lol.
