And we have our, admittedly boring, answer. Found on the blog in which the news of Caesar's filming broke.

http://blogs.lasvegasmagazine.com/VegasLuxeLife/index.php/2007/06/28/strip-scribbles-for-june-28/

… Robert Downey Jr.’s character in the “Iron Man” film shooting at Caesars Palace called for a security guard, so to save time and money, director Jon Favreau cast himself in the part - and then after shooting the scene yelled “wrap” to end final Vegas shooting of the Marvel Comic hero
This jives with the IMDB report, found here, which says Jon was in one of the scenes filmed in Caesars.

Pity. I was really looking forward to seeing him as Happy.

he's not playing Happy Hogan. read the reel chris' post.

Although Happy was also supposed to be Tony's driver and (a) bodyguard, the report makes it sound like Jon's inclusion was a spur of the moment thing, rather than a continuation of a role.

Although I really did want to see him play Happy, I'm glad that he's in it, and it has something to do with Vegas. I hope he's credited as "Mike" or "Mr. Peters." :D

Has it been confirmed that Happy will be in the first film?

It was never confirmed. We learned they shot some scenes at Fontana(?) Speedway a while back, that got people thinking Hogan may be in the flick.

Considering he's protecting the source material I'd say this role suits him fine. :word:

I still think Adam Baldwin would make a cool Happy Hogan. But the Favreau cameo is cool as long as it isn't happy

I for one thought he will cast himself in a more prominent role in this movie. But I think this was the role he was born to play!!:woot: :woot:

I wonder if Favreau will make more money-saving decisions like this.

LOL, I always pictured Adam Baldwin as a possiblity for Stark, but maybe it was just him with the goatee on Firefly that gave me that idea.

When i saw this pic of Favreau on set i could have sworn he was playing Happy Hogan.Oh well this will do just fine i guess.:o
