Hugely important day for me, as the volunteer organization I'm a part of 'Caring for Cops,' officially approved me to design our fundraiser haunted attraction.

In celebration of this, I'm starting this thread so whoever wants to can see the creation of the house from initial concept to final execution.

So...

Day 1
Contacted base housing in relation to an abandoned house to use. Set up a meeting for later this week. I've banged out a rough treatment (I'll put up the full walk-through when it's done.) for some of the rooms. The theme I've settled on is fears, and I've selected several phobias to exploit.

Hemophobia
Dementophobia
Coulrophobia
Arachnophobia
Achluophobia
Autophobia
Mageirocophobia
Thanatophobia
Bogyphobia
Counterphobia

Any and all comments are appreciated.

Can you describe the phobias? I don't know what every one means.

Sounds cool. Will this be a PG, PG-13, or R Haunted House? Or will parts of it be all three? The one here in town has a R rated show at 11pm or Midnight. It runs year round though and hosts local rock/metal concerts.

Of course. The phobias are (in order)

Fear of Blood
Fear of Insanity
Fear of Clowns
Fear of Spiders
Fear of Darkness
Fear of Being Alone
Fear of Cooking
Fear of Death
Fear of the Boogeyman
Fear of Fear Itself

The house will be mostly PG-13, but will be pretty intense. One of the conditions they gave me was to provide younger children with an alternative.

Update: 4 July 2009

Happy Fourth everybody!

Still waiting for my meeting with housing to discuss the possible location.

My friend's family does a yearly attraction back home, so they're sending us a CRAP-LOAD of props, masks, and costumes.

Look for the first teaser video somewhere in the near future where I will introduce the face of the attraction.

Finally, today's clue is the name of the room where I will exploit the Fear of Blood.

Torment

homophobia

uyou might get shut down for indecency but nothing is better than being first.

UPDATE 6 July 2009

During a quiet moment on post today, me and my partner went to check out the house we hope to get for the attraction. Due to size constraints, I've decided to cut the following scenes;

Fear of Spiders
Fear of the Dark
Fear of Being Alone

The darkness thing really hurts, but we just have no room.

House storyline is coming along nicely and you can look for the first teaser video in the next few days.

Today's clue is the name of the room where I will exploit the Fear of Clowns.

The Circus of Slashers

What is with the surge of haunted house threads???

My only fear is is running into JAL or knowsbleed in a dark alley.

Those sound kinda lame, but maybe you will prove me wrong. Too bad you cut out...fear of the dark. Good luck with it though.

Out of curiosity, what was your intentions for fear of being alone?

agrees... some of those fears just seem really lame to me... like one of those fears where just the minority will appeal to... and how to you plan on doing "being left alone" just send in a person one at a time?

I don't even see how one can do "fear of fear itself" .... how to you bring that to life in a room?, and the boogey man? i mean come on... what's it going to be ... a room with beds and closets with people popping out of them? lol, and cooking? that's going to be a rare room...

insanity, clowns, spiders, darkness, death and blood/gore are the only ones that really work the best imo... You should have chose claustrophobia and had a very tight and small areas they have to crawl through....

My idea was since people are going through in groups of 4, towards the end of the house, they would be seperated and put into 4 seperate small rooms closed off at the end. For about 15-30 seconds, they'd be left in the dark with just the sound of screams, chainsaws, etc.

Finally, just when the anticipation is at the max, the wall in front of them would open and they'd hurry out to be reunited with their group, only to be rushed by a horde of scareactors.

Not my best room idea and due to size and actor limitations, it was an easy cut.

I thought of the rooms first and then tried to match the phobias with what I was trying to accomplish.

The fear of Fear Itself is accomplished as a summation of the scares you have faced, as it is the last scene of the house.

The Boogeyman is metaphorical; the 'Boogeyman' can take many forms in many stories...

Once again, the 'Fear of Cooking' was the closest I could find to summarize what the scene is going to be.

I may find a way to use claustrophobia yet...

Fear of Clowns. Man, if you pull that off well, that **** will take the cake.

Lucy: Are you afraid of responsibility? If you are, then you have hypengyophobia.
Charlie Brown: I don't think that's quite it.
Lucy: How about cats? If you're afraid of cats, you have ailurophasia.
Charlie Brown: Well, sort of, but I'm not sure.
Lucy: Are you afraid of staircases? If you are, then you have climacaphobia. Maybe you have thalassophobia. This is fear of the ocean, or gephyrobia, which is the fear of crossing bridges. Or maybe you have pantophobia. Do you think you have pantophobia?
Charlie Brown: What's pantophobia?
Lucy: The fear of everything.
Charlie Brown: THAT'S IT.

Had to. :cwink:

I'd love to do a Silent Hill haunted house. That game scared the crap out of me and it has so much potential. Not being able to see too far around you, faint sounds and figures, the radio static as something gets closer, the sound of Pyramid Head's blade dragging, etc....

UPDATE 6 July 2009

YES! Talked to housing today and the house I wanted for the attraction is available. I'm signing the paperwork and getting the key tomorrow.

Auditions will be held this Friday and next Friday, just to see who I need to put in a mask, etc.

Today's clue is the name of the scene where I will exploit the fear of Insanity.

UPDATE 9 JULY 2009

Ho-ly crap, am I tired. I hate having to go everywhere on this daggum base with my car in Florida...

Anyway, met housing and officially signed off on the house rental. Awesome.

Also reserved the base theater for try-outs (to see where I'm going to put everybody)

I'm going to bed, but before I do, I'll reveal the name of the room with the Fear of the Boogeyman.

Eternal Monsters of Filmland

So we're talking the classics like Wolfman and Frankenstein's Monster right? Can't imagine you could get away with Freddy or something like that.
