....you just havent been able to 'get into them' a.k.a. Good movies that you should like but dont (or cant).

Take my main two for example, the likes of 'the Usual Suspects' and 'Carlitto's Way'. Even though I know how critically acclaimed they are, how wonderfully directed, excellently scripted, excellent cast; whenever I've tried watching them I've never been able to get that 'connection' that draws you in and says to you 'dont even think about turning the tv off until you've seen the end'............

It's weird - I absolutely love other films similiar in theme and style to them [with the same or similiar actors too] and all logic would suggest that I should like them too yet the watchability simply isnt there for me, despite [as I said] being fully aware of how good they are.

Anybody experienced such a phenomenon?

Does Blade Runner classify? I began to watch it once, and just couldn't stand it for long. I like Harrison Ford, I like Ridley Scott, I like dramatic and cerebral sci-fi/fantasy that makes you ask yourself uncomfortable questions and actually use your brain (absolutely loved Inception, for example), and yet... it was just unwatchable. I didn't finish it, and I don't think I ever will.

Relatively recently, though, I had quite the opposite reaction and experience. I watched a movie that I knew was very critically acclaimed and for some reason, I always thought that I'd hate it, but I was amazed to discover that once I watched it, I actually loved it like crazy. Which movie was this? The Godfather. Yeah...

Yeah Blade Runner is probably one. I love noir, I love sci fi, and I love Harrison Ford but I still cant get into that much. It's so boring to me

taste?

people have different opinions. thats why a movie can never be liked by everyone.

doesnt matter if a movie is directed good. if the movie doesnt click with your brain then its over.

I'm with you guys on Blade Runner as well. I don't care how groundbreaking and brilliant it was supposed to be... that movie bored the hell out of me.

Blade Runner is one of those that the pace just kills it for so many people. I don't blame anyone who can't get into for that reason.

The Godfather Part II. I sort of like it, but I can't understand why so many people consider it to be that much better than the first.

Godfather trilogy
Alien
Goodfellas
Raiders of the Lost Ark

I know I'm going to get flamed for that last one. Aside from the classic scenes, Raiders just doesn't grab me.

"Apocalypse Now"
I've never been able to finish it. I usually love war movies and some of the best war movies take place during Vietnam. I also like Sheen, Brando, and Duvall...and it was directed by Coppola...so why can't I stick with this flick? It just feels over-long, slow, and boring every time I watch it. I'd rather see "Platoon" or "Full Metal Jacket"

Also, it's not a film, but everyone who knows me has tried to get me to watch the new "Battlestar Gallactica" show. I've watched the first 3 or 4 episodes and can't get into it at all. I can see that it's well made and it's got a lot of cool sci-fi elements that I SHOULD love, but for some reason the show just does not capture my attention.

Definitely Blade Runner too :D Damn, I thought I was the only one on the Hype who didn't dig it.

Any high concept sci fi that thinks it's too smart for the audience, and any serious mafia movie outside of Goodfellas.

Blade Runner.

I used to not like The Godfathers, but then I turned 16.

The Third Man

Jesus Christ I couldn't wait for that to be over.

Quality in movies is subjective. No movies ARE quality as a fact.

Schindler's List and 2001 Space Odyssey

Tried so hard to stay attentive but I just can't. Great movies but I really need to be in the most relaxed mood of my life to finish either of these.

Examples? 2001, Blade Runner, the Godfather, etc. Many "quality" movies fall under one of those two categories and I have never had any desire to see them.

Wait, so you've never seen them, yet you claim they're smarter than the people who watch them?

I don't jump to conclusions without researching things first. Everything I've learned and heard suggests this. Needing to see them is irrelevant.

It's okay if you have no desire to see them, but to just do research without properly seeing them and saying that they think they're smarter than the viewer is a far reach. You should at least see the film itself to have that view. It's very relevant. You can't decide that on a film by just doing research. You have to to see the film. And besides, just because it goes over your head doesn't mean it's pretentious. Those films don't pretend they are smarter than the viewer anyway. They are indeed deep films, but they don't think they're smarter than the viewer at all.

Blade Runner is a good film, I don't love it, but it doesn't pretend it's all high and mighty. I have no interest in Woody Allen films, but that doesn't mean I think they're smarter than I am or their humor is above mine.
