Final Fantasy Explorers Will Let You Transform Into Cloud And Other Final Fantasy Heroes. August 28, 2014 . 5:20am

Final Fantasy Explorers has a “Trance” feature, which lets you transform into characters of past Final Fantasy titles.
During this morning’s Final Fantasy Explorers livestream, Square Enix revealed a little more on the game’s “Trance” feature, which lets you transform into characters of past Final Fantasy titles.

The character they revealed was Cloud, but they mentioned that you’ll be able to transform into several other main character-type characters of past games.

While the time will be extremely limited, the “Legend Character” transformation will also have their BGM themes, like Final Fantasy VII music for Cloud. He’ll also be able to use his Omnislash Limit Break move.

You can read a little more about the Trance feature in our earlier report.

Final Fantasy Explorers Reveals The Dark Knight As The Latest Job. August 28, 2014 . 6:32am

Dark Knights are considered to be technical characters that will be tough to use, but once you learn how to use them, they’ll be one of the strongest damage dealers in the game.

During Square Enix’s livestream for Final Fantasy Explorers, after providing the latest look at its multiplayer gameplay, the game’s developers shared a glimpse at the latest job with the Dark Knight.

Dark Knights are considered to be technical characters that will be tough to use, but once you learn how to use them, they’ll be one of the strongest damage dealers in the game.

Their attacks will be familiar to those of you who’ve played the Dark Knight in past Final Fantasy games, where they sacrifice their health for more damage, and absorb health from enemies.

Dark Knights use weapons like swords, but also have access to others like the axe, which was demonstrated during the party play session featuring the Dark Knight class.

The Dark Knight job is shown with various attacks and abilities like “Genocide,” “Berserk,” “Smash,” “Tomahawk,” “Catastrophe,” and many others. Most of their self-buffs seem to revolve around all kinds of attack and critical hit increases.

While their attack might be high, they really seem to take a lot of damage whenever they get hit, so it looks like Dark Knight users will have to keep a close eye on the monster and tank, then attack whenever there’s a good opening.

Prior to the reveal, Square let fans vote between Dark Knight and Dragoon, for which one they wanted to see revealed and in motion, so it sounds like we might hear more about Dragoons in the near future.

Final Fantasy Explorers is in development for Nintendo 3DS.

Final Fantasy Explorers Details On Jobs, Abilities, And Multiplayer. August 28, 2014 . 5:00pm

During their multiplayer demonstration, Square Enix demonstrated a variety of different attacks from Knight, Monk, White Mage, and Black Mage.

Square Enix and Dengeki got together to livestream a wh0le bunch of new information on Final Fantasy Explorers this morning. During the stream, we got to see Cloud from Final Fantasy VII and the Dark Knight job reveal. Here’s a summary of what else went on during their play session.

During the multiplayer demonstration, Square Enix demonstrated a variety of different attacks from Knight, Monk, White Mage, and Black Mage. They also showed a few of the Monk’s skills, like Chakra and Aura Cannon. The game’s developers said that Final Fantasy Explorers will feature plenty of moves from past games of the series, but many original ones as well. As far as abilities go, there are about 200 total.

While out on adventures, the bottom screen on the Nintendo 3DS will show a map and will also indicate where all the characters are located. There are other bottom screen features like a “monster lock-on” that also shows you their hit points.

After sharing these details, the developers created a party consisting of a Ninja, Paladin, Time Mage, and White Mage to take on Shiva. The female Ninja character in the game looked closer to what you’d expect from a traditional “kunoichi,” while the Time Mage looks pretty close to the one from Bravely Default.

While running together through the fields, the Paladin was a little slower than the others, so it made the others have to slow down for him; however, by using the Time Mage’s Haste magic, they were able to speed everyone up just the right amount.

The Ninjas look like they have all kinds of different Ninjutsu abilities, and it looks like they can also help out in the tanking role with some sort of Utsusemi abilities, similar to the way they were used in Final Fantasy XI.

Once the party reached the Tinz Underpass, they were greeted with various water-type monsters, but zipped by them in order to get to Shiva faster.

During the fight against Shiva, White Mages play a crucial role, as they can help unfreeze with Esuna, and they can also look at the health of all the party members on the bottom screen, and can also target them by selecting them through there. White Mages can also do things like enhance other buffs such as the Time Mage’s Haste, and they can also use a “Pray” ability that recovers the AP (Action Points) of all the allies.

When a player gets incapacitated, you can shave three minutes off from the clock to be revived, which sounds like it’ll come in handy when the White Mage doesn’t have the time or space to pull off a Raise spell.

During a fight against Fenrir, the party showed that some of the big enemy attacks are indicated with markers on the floor for certain attacks, so you’ll be able to avoid and dodge them better. They also seem to have some sort of rage mode, too.

Final Fantasy Explorers is also expected to be featured in tomorrow Square Enix Presents Japan’s third episode, and will be available to watch via livestream as well. More “Legend Characters” like Cloud will also be revealed during Tokyo Game Show 2014. You can expect Siliconera to bring you these details as they’re revealed.

Final Fantasy Explorers will be released in Japan on December18, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS. You can get another look at the Onion Knight equipment and the limited edition box set in our earlier report.

Check Out Cloud Swing His Buster Sword In Final Fantasy Explorers. August 29, 2014 . 3:10am

Cloud will be able to use his signature Omnislash Limit Break as his attack in Final Fantasy Explorers.

Square Enix shared a first look at Cloud’s Final Fantasy Explorers form in yesterday’s stream with Dengeki, where players will be able to momentarily transform into him through the game’s “Trance” feature. Square Enix closer look at the ex-SOLDIER in action.

The “Trance” system will let players pull off powerful abilities in the midst of combat, and it looks like they’ll do so by transforming into key characters of past Final Fantasy games.

Cloud will be able to use his signature Omnislash Limit Break as his attack. So far, we don’t know whether these “Legend Characters” are linked to the players job, but if they are, it’d be pretty cool seeing Black Mages transform into Vivi, or Paladins go into Cecil mode.

Final Fantasy Explorers is slated for release in Japan on December 18, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.

Final Fantasy Explorers Is Getting Another Livestream Today, Watch It Inside. August 29, 2014 . 3:00am

Siliconera will share updates based on the livestream when it goes live.

[YT]0NMZV5XNsn4[/YT]
Yesterday, Square Enix and Dengeki teamed up to show us the latest on Final Fantasy Explorers, where we got to see Final Fantasy VII’s Cloud make an appearance, and much more. We’ll be treated to another stream, but this time as part of the new “Square Enix Japan Presents.” series

If the Square Enix Presents Japan’s stream for Final Fantasy Explorers is anything like the one we saw from their Bravely Second stream earlier this week, we can expect it to be a little more laid back with some talks amongst the developers and some gameplay footage. Then again, Final Fantasy Explorers is out this December, whereas Bravely Second isn’t coming until next year.

Siliconera will share updates based on the livestream when it goes live at 21:00 JST (5am PST/ 8am EST).

Final Fantasy Explorers’ Job System Sounds Very Flexible. September 1, 2014 . 5:30pm

Final Fantasy Explorers director Atsushi Hashimoto and project manager Takahiro Abe got together again on a livestream late last week to showcase the game.

Final Fantasy Explorers director Atsushi Hashimoto and project manager Takahiro Abe got together again on a livestream late last week to showcase the game. Here are some interesting tidbits on what we saw during the stream.

  • When you’re not in combat and the battle theme isn’t playing, your health will regenerate rapidly, so for the most part, you’ll only have to worry about using potions while fighting.

  • In addition to the Provoke move that comes in handy for managing hate as a tank, they’ll also have the Flash ability, which will work similarly as the way it does in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

  • There are both auto-saves and manual saves in Final Fantasy Explorers, so you can pick whichever one you want.

  • The crystal located in the middle of town is where you’ll acquire Abilities. These can be purchased by using CP points that you’ll get while going out on quests. You won’t be able to learn too many at once; rather Abilities will be something you’ll work on over time.

  • Regarding Abilities that you can learn from other classes, or cross-class skills, you won’t be able to use every single skill from all the Jobs, but for the most part, you’ll be able to learn them as long as they make sense for your Job in some way. For example, Dark Knights will be able to learn various Black Mage spells.

  • You can also get creative and have White Mages that don’t really heal as much, instead but specialize in damaging opponents.

  • The time it takes to clear a quest varies, but Square Enix are developing the game so that it’ll take about an average of 20 minutes per quest.
[YT]xKyQPTx-6nY[/YT]
  • During the fight against Ifrit, the Ranger used her Trance mode, then followed by the “Legend Character” transformation and turned into Cloud, who used a bow instead of his regular Buster Sword.

  • Square also clarified that Trance mode and transforming into a Legendary Character aren’t exactly the same thing, as Trance mode is more of a power-up.

  • In order to go Trance mode, there’s an indicator on the top-left part of the screen that will show you when it will be possible to transform, which happens after defeating a certain amount of enemies.

  • There also seems to be some sort of system that lets you break parts off boss monsters, to acquire material to create gear, or something else.

Final Fantasy Explorers is slated for release in Japan on December 18, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS. You can also catch what went on during yesterday’s stream for the game in our previous report.

In Final Fantasy Explorers, Your Appearance Is Tied To Your Equipment. September 9, 2014 . 1:00am

“In order to be able to change appearance, we’ve prepared a wide variety of armor and weapon types for Final Fantasy Explorers,” Square Enix say.

The Final Fantasy Explorers Twitter account has recently been answering questions that fans tweet their way. One of the questions they were asked is if you will be able to change your appearance independent of your stats and gear. This, the team replied, will not be the case.

Final Fantasy Explorers effectively works like Monster Hunter and other action RPGs in this regard. The Twitter account stated: “As far as equipment goes, we’d like to apologize beforehand. There isn’t a system that lets you maintain the same performance while changing your looks alone.”

“In order to be able to change appearance, we’ve prepared a wide variety of armor and weapon types for Final Fantasy Explorers, so it would make us happy to see you folks mix and match to your liking.”

Also, while it sounds like there won’t be any sort of costume system to customize your looks in the game, Square Enix previously stated that Final Fantasy Explorers will have a bunch of iconic weapons in addition to different types of weapons and other equipment, so it sounds as though there is going to be a nicely-rounded set of customization options in the game.

Other questions they were asked is if multiplayer will be enabled over the Internet (yes) and if multiplayer will be free (also yes).

Here Are The Controls For Final Fantasy Explorers. September 12, 2014 . 3:29pm

Square Enix have shared a look at the control scheme of Final Fantasy Explorers.

Tokyo Game Show 2014 is around the corner, and we’re expected to see more of Final Fantasy Explorers at the event. To remind us, the game’s official twitter account shared a look at the game’s controls as a sneak peek prior to the big event.

While the original control scheme image is in Japanese, Siliconera translated all the details, so you can check it out for yourself. (Click the image to view a larger version)

As far as controls go, they seem pretty basic, but there are a few interesting choices such as pressing the B button to bring up the item window or to cancel. Getting the choice of being able to lock onto a summon boss monster or a regular monster also sounds like it could be pretty handy down the road.

Final Fantasy Explorers will release in Japan on December 18, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.

Lightning Returns In Final Fantasy Explorers. September 16, 2014 . 1:30am

Terra from Final Fantasy VI and Squall from Final Fantasy VIII are in Final Fantasy Explorers, too.

In Final Fantasy Explorers, players will get to summon heroes from other Final Fantasy titles to help out in battle. Square Enix’s latest video (courtesy Famitsu) demonstrating the game’s multiplayer mode shows us a couple of familiar faces.

[YT]B45_HXvEafM[/YT]
The video footage shows us a party mix of Dragoon, Knight, Ranger, and White Mage, who cooperate to fight Shiva.

Square Enix already showed off Cloud as part of the “Trance” and “Legend Characters” feature that lets players transform into characters from other Final Fantasy games. This time, we get to see Squall and Lightning, starting at the 1:22 mark of the video.

A little afterwards, it looks like the White Mage transforms into Terra from Final Fantasy VI, who we briefly see reviving the fallen Dragoon after defeating Shiva. Characters can use their powerful “Crystal Drive” abilities while in Legend Character form as well.

We also get another look at Cloud in action at 4:20. The Legend Characters seem to keep the same weapons used by the job of the player who summons them. In addition to having the Legend Character’s main theme playing, they’ll also have access to signature moves like Omnislash.

Final Fantasy Explorers will release in Japan on December 18, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.

You can check out our earlier report for some more details on jobs and a look at some of them in action. Siliconera also provided translations for the game’s control scheme as well.

Final Fantasy Explorers Hands-On: Using The Dragoon To Take Down Ifrit. September 17, 2014 . 8:30pm

The Tokyo Game Show demo for Final Fantasy Explorers starts with Cid welcoming players to the Explorers Union.

Today. I got to play the Tokyo Game Show demo for Final Fantasy Explorers, which starts with Cid welcoming players to the Explorers Union. From there, you can run around a hub town, but the only thing you could do in the demo was talk to the guild where you get the TGS quest to defeat Ifrit.

Players can choose a job and the ones available in the demo were: Knight, Archer, Monk, Dragoon, White Mage, Black Mage, Time Mage and Ninja. I went with Dragoon and headed into a volcano area. The demo gave me a Chocobo and a Goblin as allies, as there was no multiplayer enabled for TGS.

The Chocobo and Goblin automatically ran up to nearby bombs and enemy Chocobos. It seemed like the Chocobo helper was more useful since it could also cast a healing spell that recovered HP and buffed my character.

Pressing Y makes the Dragoon use his basic attack which is a spear slash. Final Fantasy Explorers doesn’t have a magic meter per se, but something called a Trance Gauge. When you dash by holding the B button, your Trance Gauge depletes. The Dragoon also has eight other attacks you can use when you hold L or R.

For example; holding L + Y makes the Dragoon jump, which is actually a short-range jump. L+X is an upwards slash, L+A is a running thrust, and L+B is a spear throw. R+Y does a Lightning Leg-style rapid-thrust attack, R+A is a slow starting powerful thrust forward, and R+B is a three hit combo called Trinity. All of these attacks drained a little of the Trance Gauge. The Dragoon was essentially a close range fighter.

Chaining attacks together was easy. I opened with a basic combo and then followed up with one of the special attacks. Basic enemies posed no real threat, they were basically there so players can farm items or on the case of the demo practice creating combos. Final Fantasy Explorers also has crystal points where you can mine items, too.

I rushed past the second zone, avoiding enemies to save my party’s strength for Ifrit. Similar to other hunting-action games, Ifrit posed quite the challenge. The summoned monster could roll into a ball to crash into players, which would force you to dash left or right to dodge. He also could create a circle of fire around him and throw meteor-like fireballs. Also reminiscent of the hunting-action genre, I had to slowly chip away at Ifrit’s life.

The two partners were useless here, since they didn’t bother dodging Ifrit’s attacks, the goblin ran right in to punch when Ifrit created a wall of fire.

I was often fighting solo, so I took a hit and run approach to take Ifrit down by using the spear throw skill and running away. I also used a crystal here to transform into Squall from Final Fantasy VIII. When I did so, I found I still had all of the Dragoon’s moves. When transformed, I held L+R to use Combo and my spear slashes and special attacks connected more fluidly while Combo was active.

After a couple of minutes of battling him, I took Ifrit down and the demo ended.

Final Fantasy Explorers will be released for Nintendo 3DS in Japan this December. The full game will have both local and online multiplayer. A Western release has not been announced yet.

Final Fantasy Explorers Adds Geomancer Job, Shows Terra From FFVI. September 25, 2014 . 11:01am

Just like all the other “Legends Characters” of Final Fantasy Explorers, players will get to transform into Terra when the right conditions are met.

Square Enix recently shared the latest trailer for Final Fantasy Explorers, which featured some of the jobs, Legend Character transformations, and Summoned Beasts. The official website updates us with a new job, a look at Terra from Final Fantasy VI, and more.

Geomancer:
The Geomancer job has appeared throughout the Final Fantasy series as a class that uses bells as weapons, along with the power of terrain as a weapon. In Final Fantasy Explorers, Geomancers will use an ability called “Rune Strike” that increases their magic power after each hit. However, it seems like this have a long cool-down period, so there are limits to using it.

Here’s a look at one of the fan-favorite characters from Final Fantasy VI, Terra Branford, who is one of the transformations in the game:

Just like all the other “Legends Characters” of Final Fantasy Explorers, players will get to transform into Terra when the right conditions are met. More characters from the Final Fantasy series are expected to be revealed over time.

The website also shares a look at a feature called “Crystal Drive”. While not much is currently known about it at the moment, the above images shows Crystal Drive attacks that are borrowing powers from Ramuh and Shiva to deal a massive ranged attack.

The above is a look at the area where Bahamut dwells, called Jamenile Mountains. The monsters here are all powerful, so it’s recommended to be well-geared before taking it on.

Final Fantasy Explorers is slated for release on December 18, 2014 in Japan for Nintendo 3DS.

Final Fantasy Explorers Developers Detail The Trance System And Fight Ramuh. September 30, 2014 . 4:02pm

Square Enix recently held their second Final Fantasy Explorers livestream session as part of their ongoing “Square Enix Japan Presents” program that will focus on upcoming games.
[YT]x99EWEQM-Vw[/YT]

Square Enix recently held their second Final Fantasy Explorers livestream session as part of their ongoing “Square Enix Japan Presents” program that will focus on upcoming games. In the second episode, they share more details on the latest job, and challenge Ramuh.

At the start of the stream, the team showed off a few new tracks, including Ramuh’s theme, which had a nice rock-vibe going on.

There’s about a total of 20 battle themes, which is actually the majority of music tracks in Final Fantasy Extreme, according to composer Tsuyoshi Sekito. When asked if he’s had any trouble, he said that most of them were easy, but he did struggle with the main theme.

There are four types of jobs in Final Fantasy Explorers. The Tanks are in charge of handling the monsters, and will also face the bosses head-on. The Attackers, or damage dealers, will be the ones in charge of doing damage, and these will have the most jobs of all.

Healers, like White Mage, are in charge of healing, but they can also participate in attacks. Square Enix say that you can’t be a great healer unless you also participate in attacking or go with some additional support.

Finally, the Buffers, or supporters, have jobs like Time Mage and Geomancer, who are there to primarily support the party with spells like Haste. Similar to the Healers, players who go with Buffers can also attack, but as far as how much, it depends on their play-style.

In the end, ability customizations, will play a bigger role on how you get to play your jobs.

Square Enix also explained a little more about the Trance system, which was a little confusing to some people. Going Trance is split into two “powers,” one that lets you use the power from Summoned Beasts, and the other that lets you borrow power from Final Fantasy characters.

Both transformations will give your character a different appearance, and a boost in parameters. More details on the Trance system and the powers will be revealed in the near future.

Next, they took on Ramuh as part of the featured Summoned Beast fight, with a party of Paladin, Dragoon, Dark Knight, Dragoon, and Geomancer. The challenge this time around, is to see if they can win without a proper healer.

The Dragoon’s Jump will go to whatever you’re locked onto, but if you’re not, it’ll go a fixed distance ahead of you. Meanwhile, Geomancers can set up traps like landmines, and use area-of-effect buffing abilities that cover a wide range around them.

Due to the lack of healer, some of the characters have equipped the Cura ability, which costs more and not as effective when used by non-healer jobs.

During the fight against Ramuh, the Summoned Beast is shown teleporting around. There are yellow crystals located throughout the map, which can be broken to stop Ramuh from teleporting; however, the crystals respawn as well.

The Paladin uses Ifrit’s Summon power in Trance mode, which he was able to time after a teleport to land a powerful meteor hit. While it wasn’t enough to defeat Ramuh, the group managed to work their way around his Thunder attacks, and took him down shortly after.

Final Fantasy Explorers will release in Japan on December 18, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.

Final Fantasy Explorers ditches 3D, uses new 3DS' C-stick

43

Final Fantasy Explorers will not use the 3DS' stereoscopic 3D functions, Siliconera reported. The game will make use of the new 3DS and 3DS XL's buttons and C-stick, however, controlling the third-person game's targeting and lock-on mechanics. It will also be compatible with the Circle Pad Pro, unlike a certain popular Nintendo-published fighting game that launched recently.

Square Enix isn't the first publisher to dismiss the handheld system's 3D capabilities to some degree; Nintendo's own Pokemon X and Y limited their use of the stereoscopic 3D visuals to the game's battles. The console manufacturer even launched an entire version of the system without the 3D functions roughly one year ago, the Nintendo 2DS. Final Fantasy Explorers will launch on December 18 in Japan. While both US and European trademarks exist for the game, it hasn't yet been given a release date elsewhere.

Final Fantasy Explorers Details Yuna, Tidus, Bartz, And The Machinist Job. October 21, 2014 . 1:33am

In Final Fantasy Explorers, Yuna will use a special attack called Great Whirl, which was normally a part of her abilities with the Floral Fallal Dressphere in Final Fantasy X-2. She’ll also pull off attacks some non-elemental attacks as well.

Last week, Square Enix revealed the latest jobs for Final Fantasy Explorers, with the Red Mage and Machinist. The official website updates us with more information on the two jobs, along with a look at the latest Legend Characters.

Machinist:

[YT]l8BDYcy04Lw[/YT]

Machinists us guns as their main weapon and they’re long-ranged damage-dealers. While their attacks are considered physical, they can do additional status ailments along with abilities that buff themselves up.

They have all kinds of abilities that let them rapidly shoot down enemies or even drop heavy artillery-like attacks on unsuspecting enemies.

Red Mage:

The Red Mage has been around for quite a while in the Final Fantasy series, and in Final Fantasy Explorers, they’ll retain their characteristic trait of being a jack-of-all-trades with swordsmanship and magic.

They’ll also have their Chainspell ability, that allows for rapid spellcasting, which will help out in the magic damage-dealing department. They also have a special characteristic that makes their power increase the more they use up their AP.

Next, here’s a look at some of the latest Legend Characters:

Yuna (Final Fantasy X-2):

In Final Fantasy Explorers, Yuna will use a special attack called Great Whirl, which was normally a part of her abilities with the Floral Fallal Dressphere in Final Fantasy X-2. She’ll also pull off attacks some non-elemental attacks as well.

Tidus (Final Fantasy X):

The Blitz Ace was Tidus’ strongest Overdrive from the Swordplay command in Final Fantasy X. In Final Fantasy Explorers, he’ll have access to it as part of a Crystal Drive attack.

Bartz (Final Fantasy V):

Once the Crystal Drive activates, Bartz equips the Brave Blade and Chicken Knife to rush down enemies as part of his Spellblade Rapid Fire ability.

Final Fantasy Explorers will release in Japan on December 18, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.

Final Fantasy Explorers Shows Off Its New Summoned Beast, Amaterasu. October 21, 2014 . 1:02pm

The official website shows off other popular Summons like Odin and Leviathan, along with the brand new Summon, called Amaterasu.

We’ve already seen several of the more traditional Summoned Beast monsters from the series in Final Fantasy Explorers, such as Bahamut, Shiva, and Ifrit. The official website shows off other popular Summons like Odin and Leviathan, along with the brand Summon, called Amaterasu.

Amaterasu:

The above is a look at Amaterasu, who makes its debut in Final Fantasy Explorers. Not much is known about it, but it definitely dons an interesting set of clothing. The seven swords seen on its back are said to be its main weapons. As the name implies, it seems to have a Japanese motif behind its design.

Leviathan:

Leviathan, the “Sea King” or “Lord of All Waters” recently appeared in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, but he’ll also be back in Final Fantasy Explorers as a Summoned Beast boss.

Explorers will have to fight him in a sea-based battlefield, so it’ll be important to choose your jobs wisely. He’ll also go underwater and emerge to perform powerful attacks, so you’ll need to be on guard while taking on this sea serpent.

Odin:

Since Final Fantasy Explorers is all about fighting Summoned Beast monsters, it just wouldn’t be right without one of the fan-favorites in Odin. He’ll use his well-known attacks in its one-hit-kill Zantetsuken and Gungnir.

We’ve seen how explorers can transform into Final Fantasy characters, like the recently revealed Yuna, Tidus, and Bartz, through the game’s Trance system. However, that’s just part of the Trance system’s full potential.

There are actually two ways to use the Trance system, one that lets you borrow powers from Final Fantasy characters such as Cloud Squall and Lightning. The other lets you borrow powers from the Summoned Beasts.

While in Trance mode, you’ll see a special attack symbol appear, which then lets you use the Crystal Drive to transform into a Final Fantasy character. If you have the character’s Magic Stone, you’ll be able to use their special abilities, like Cloud’s Omnislash, and more.

Again, if you’re holding a Magic Stone from a Summoned Beast monster, you’ll end up using one of their special abilities instead. These attacks can be just as powerful, so it seems like it can be a matter of preference or situational options.

Final Fantasy Explorers is slated for release in Japan on December 18, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.

Final Fantasy Explorers Director Says Character Transformations Are Completely Optional. October 29, 2014 . 12:29pm

Being able to play as different Final Fantasy characters is one of the most anticipated features of Final Fantasy Explorers, but it’s also optional.

Being able to play as different Final Fantasy characters while recruiting monsters from the series is one of the most anticipated features of Final Fantasy Explorers. Director Atsushi Hashimoto recently shared details on those subjects and more, in a recent intervier with Dengeki Online.

Hashimoto starts the interview by sharing a little bit about how Final Fantasy Explorers started and the concept behind it. According to the director, it was simply from the though of “let’s make a Final Fantasy multiplayer action RPG”.

The idea of fighting against Summoned Beasts was something that was decided from the very start of development, as Hashimoto felt that it would be a cool feature to be able to fight against the Summoned Beasts that have existed throughout the series.

While on the subject of gameplay, Dengeki mentions that taking out a bunch of smaller enemies to charge up your Resonance Power looks like it might be a great way to gather material.

“About materials, I’m sure there are many people who gather enough and settle for what they get,” says Hashimoto. “However, these materials aren’t only used to make weapons, but they’re also very important for upgrading them. For this reason, those who want to enhance their favorite weapons should collect as much as possible.”

So, it sounds like Final Fantasy Explorers will have a weapon creation and upgrade system that will require you to always have material in order to do so, similar to the Monster Hunter series. Stronger weapons will also need rare materials as well.

Next, the director shares a little more about the Legend Characters feature, that allows you to transform into a Final Fantasy character for a short period of time.

According to Hashimoto, fans of the series might find the feature exciting, but adds that the game isn’t made only for those fans, but also for those who enjoy action RPGs. For that reason, players will get to choose whether they want to use that feature or not.

In order to transform into a Legend Character, you’ll need to find a specific item for them, and it will be possible to play through the entire game without ever transforming into one. Hashimoto says to think of it as just one option, while the other is about using powers from Summoned Beasts as part of the Trance System.

Another interesting feature is how you’ll also get to recruit monsters to fight by your side after acquiring their Spirit Stones and breeding them. Dengeki asks how will these monsters level up.

“As long as you take them with you in quests, they’ll continue to grow,” says Hashimoto. “The more the monsters participate, the more experience points they’ll gain. While details on this still remain a secret for now, I can say that it won’t simply just be about defeating monsters, and doing all kinds of actions will allow them to grow more steadily.”

After seeing footage of players fighting a Chocobo, Dengeki expressed their relief to know that you can also recruit them as well.

“By all means, you’ll get to recruit Chocobos to your party, so you Chocobo fans out there, please feel at ease and enjoy the game,” responds Hashimoto. “Chocobos can also use Cure, so they’re actually pretty useful.”

He also says that single player mode can be pretty tough, so having monsters by your side will make things much easier and enjoyable.

Final Fantasy Explorers is slated for release in Japan on December 18, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.

Final Fantasy Explorers Demo Shows How To Create Characters And Monsters. November 11, 2014 . 2:33am

In a recent hands-on report, Famitsu showed off what it’s like to create characters and monsters in the demo.

Final Fantasy Explorers will get a demo with online multiplayer in just a few more days, so players in Japan will soon get to try it out for themselves. In a recent hands-on report, Famitsu showed off what it’s like to create characters and monsters in the demo.

The above is a look at the main character edit screen, with options such as name, gender, voice, face, and hairstyle. You might need to turn the volume a little bit higher to hear the voice in this video, but the face types show up after, including one that looks like Squall’s.

The player then checks out different hairstyles. The demo doesn’t seem to have too many, but the third one looks like it’ll be a fan-favorite. Following this, we get a look at female character creation.

The next video is about monster-creation in Final Fantasy Explorers, which starts out with the Monster Laboratory. Over here, you can check out all kinds of monsters and their details from the Spirit Stones.

Starting at the 1:20 mark, the Explorer embarks on a little trip with three monsters fighting by his side. Think of them as the equivalent of Monster Hunter’s Felynes. They’ll help you take on enemies and support you during your play.

The Spirit Stones needed to acquire the monsters come in different rarities, with Spirit Stones of rare and powerful monsters being a little more difficult to acquire.

Final Fantasy Explorers is slated for release in Japan on December 18, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.

Here Are Some Of The Boss Fights In Final Fantasy Explorer’s Demo. November 11, 2014 . 5:31pm

Watch the boss fights against Ifrit, Shiva and the Red Dragon in Final Fantasy Explorers.

We previously wrote about Famitsu’s early hands-on experience with Final Fantasy Exporer’s upcoming demo, which showcased the game’s character and monster creation. Next, is a look at various boss fights that will be in the demo, also from Famitsu’s preview of the demo.

[YT]I_DTepdKLjg[/YT]

The first video demonstrates the fight against the Red Dragon boss, where a Ranger goes out solo on the volcano map. After taking on some small-fry enemies, the player makes the encounter at around 0:45.

The Red Dragon seems to continuously perform tackling moves in addition to fire breath attacks, so it looks like as long as you keep your distance and stay away from its face, you’ll be fine.
[YT]jeIMgQQngx0[/YT]

Unlike the Red Dragon, Ifrit is serious business when it comes to fire. He can perform all kinds or ranged attacks in addition to area-of-effect jumps. The fight starts at the 1:09 mark of the video, where the solo Explorer goes in with a few monster allies.

It doesn’t take long for the monster allies to fall, so the player is left playing a run-and-gun tactic while running away from the scary lord of inferno. However, it looks like you can basically kite Ifrit and not have too much trouble, but it seems like it could be a little time-consuming.

The next video shows the fight against Shiva. Once again, the player has a party of a couple monsters, but it looks like they also get eliminated with ease. Shiva uses all kinds of attacks, and it seems like she has something for close and long-ranged opponents.

Once the monsters come back, it doesn’t take long for them to get knocked out, and to top it off, the player gets incapacitated by her Diamond Dust ability. Fighting solo against her looks like it will require a lot of patience, so it would be ideal to fight her with other human players.

Finally, this player transforms into Cloud and uses his Omnislash ability, along with some help from Lightning, who shows off some of her speedy movements and ranged attacks.

Final Fantasy Explorers will release in Japan on December 18, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.

Final Fantasy Explorers Shows What Tifa, Aerith, And The Thief Can Do. November 24, 2014 . 1:43am

You can morph into Tifa from Final Fantasy VII equipped with her ultimate weapon, the Premium Heart gloves, and use her Final Heaven limit break against enemies.

Final Fantasy Explorers lets players transform into heroes from past games. You can morph into Tifa from Final Fantasy VII equipped with her ultimate weapon, the Premium Heart gloves, and use her Final Heaven limit break against enemies.

Aerith from Final Fantasy VII can restore HP and clear negative status effects with Great Gospel, one of her limit breaks from the game.

Cecil from Final Fantasy IV uses Double Phase, an attack that blends both his light and dark sides that comes from Dissidia: Final Fantasy.

There's more
Vaan has his Luminescence Quickening from Final Fantasy XII.

Final Fantasy Explorers also brings back many familiar jobs from the series like Thief which was from the first Final Fantasy game. Thief has the ability to steal items from monsters and a skill that reduces the amount of AP consumed while dashing so you can run longer. Surprise Attack is a quick strike with a high critical rate. Chaos Trip inflicts poison and burn statues that sap HP from a target.

Chemists are item masters. Just like other Final Fantasy games, when Chemists use items their effects are more potent. Another helpful ability is Chemists can use an item like a potion without consuming it. The downside is this skill has a long cooldown period, but sounds like this skill will be helpful once you have some elixirs. Chemists are designed to be support characters, but can also act as long range fighters when equipped with a gun.

Final Fantasy Explorers Shows The Towering Alexander And Diablos. November 26, 2014 . 2:31pm

Gravity attacks aren’t the only tricks up Diablos’ sleeves, as it can swoop around and hit you with its wings while spinning around.

In Final Fantasy Explorers, you’ll have to fight Summoned Beasts who are just trying to protect the crystals… which kind of makes you seem like the bad guy, but when facing the likes of Diablos and Alexander, I don’t think you have much of a choice.

When it comes to size, none of the other Summoned Beasts even compare to Alexander. In addition to its gigantic body, it also has a variety of attack patterns, from magic to trembling attacks, and missiles to stomping attacks. Its “Holy Judgment” attack can also give you a proper beating.

Alexander seems to be in control of the sacred tree shown in the background. I’m not exactly sure why you’re going to need to get past him, but it doesn’t look like it’ll be an easy task.
