LIGHTNING RETURNS: FINAL FANTASY XIII Jump Festa 2012 Trailer

I know, right? What makes XIII so much more desirable as to warrant more sequels? I know VII used to be massively popular, and got the film, and the sequel, and prequel and such. But XIII I havent heard a lot of good about, and it just seems like they are going to continue running it into the ground.

You know, I have a strong distaste for the fandom that popped up around Final Fantasy VII, but what I absolutely hate is that Square tried to artificially manufacture that same kind of fervor for Final Fantasy XIII right out of the gate, without ever knowing if fans even wanted a sequel to that game.

For better or worse, VII earned all of those sequels and other ancillary bull****. With XIII Square had the audacity to just assume that it would be this massive success and create the same sort of insatiable hunger among the fans that VII did. Luckily, I feel like people saw right through it and it blew up in Square's face.

*sigh* Don't mind me, I'm just bitter that all those years ago when "Fabula Nova Crystallis" was announced, Versus was and continues to be by far the most intriguing thing about it, and it still hasn't seen the light of day nearly seven years later.:cmad::csad:

Its bc SE as a company is bleeding for money as their Japanese division hasnt been doing well at all in years. It doesnt help that one of their biggest sellers, Kingdom Hearts has been put on hiatus for this console generation and they are wasting money on FF vs XIII which is taking forever to develop. And of course there was the disastrous launch of XIV and the time and money they threw at it to fix it for its re-launch. With FFXIII, the assets are already done. They have a game world, models, voice actors, battle system, etc... already in place. Instead of spending years in development, they can use all that and quickly turn out sequels to help keep them afloat in the meantime. It has nothing to do with quality or thinking FFXIII is a story worth investing in. I doubt if SE was in a better financial position, that we would be seeing it get 2 sequels.

Yep. They've got all hands on deck fixing FFXIV and cranking out FFXIII sequels is significantly cheaper and less time intensive than developing brand new games. I bet with the FFXIV relaunch they're probably just hoping to break even on what they put into it.

I know they've got that Dragon Quest MMO coming, but hopefully after that they stop dabbling in MMOs, and I say that as one of the few who really enjoyed FFXI.

please......someone liberate us from the world of Final Fantasy XIII!!!!

I don't know..It's one thing to have to one sequel..but two sequels to a game that has divivded fans? I feel like Final Fantasy is being mishandled and right now it feels like today's FF era is akin to the later Star Trek Next Generation movies/later Roger Moore 007 movies. It needs help.

The biggest problem with Final Fantasy and Square Enix as a whole at the moment is that they made a one-two punch of very stupid (and costly) mistakes back to back. Fabula Nova Crystallis and Final Fantasy XIV. With FNC they were arrogant enough to assume that people would love Final Fantasy XIII so much that would want it turned into its own sub-franchise. Wrong. And then there was FFXIV which turned out to be an absolutely colossal failure. So now they've got all hands on deck trying to fix that hot garbage, and anyone left is busy ****ting out FFXIII sequels because that engine they spent all that time and money developing isn't going to pay for itself.

I HATE modern Final Fantasy...I find the combat boring and the story nearly
incoherent rambling.

lol yeah it's incoherent rambling cause they are stalling til XIII vursus or as we're suspecting it'll called XV is finally put out on the market .

In other words they have nothing as far as a extended story and they are just dragging it on making stuff up as they went along.

I found the combat in XIII and XIII-2 quite a bit better than XII, it really shines when trying to take down the hardest foes in those games. But the writing is fanfic caliber. Same deal with the Kingdom Hearts games. Fanwank, fanfic material. LR looks even more like one of those wacky KH spin-off games. I don't know why they're doing that but it's disappointing. And the combat looks like a downgrade from the previous two entries though I probably won't know for absolute certain until there's more video of it.
