First ninja turtles comics?

Hey gang, with all this turtle talk going around it got me wanting to read the very first series. I went to my local comic book store and picked up a series called "in color" the worker there said it was the first issues, when I got home the graphic novel consisted of random issues in color

So my question is, is there a graphic novel of the original first run of the turtles? And what is the name I should search for or have my comic book store look up to order?

IDW is publishing them as hardback coffee table books. Eastman and Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. 4 volumes so far, I think.
