First Official Look at The Spirit's Octopus

Ladies and gentlemen, exhibit A.
This book should be burned and forgotten, not made into a major theatrically released fantasy that kids will surely see. I know there won't be racist undertones in the movie, but look what its based on. Hatred and racism. Whats next? An adventure movie where the Knights of the KKK go back in time and become real knights, or a buddy comedy where a gang of white rednecks drag an innocent black man across the country? This is hate material.

Black people usually don't even say "jumpin' jellybeans!".

There was certainly ignorance in the book. But I wouldn't go so far as to say that there was hatred.

Yes... Eisner was a Nazi... well... other than his Jewishness. :whatever:

It's a shame that you detectives had to go and dig up this Ebony character that was hidden from public knowledge for so many years... you have just opened the DaVinci code that will bring Eisner's completely unjustified amazing reputation tumbling down. Where did you possibly find this evidence of his racism that had been buried from the public eye for so many years, ensuring that this old racist could secure a great reputation with people of all races ...?

Maybe Miller will save us from Eisner's hack storytelling and continue his own legacy of producing only tasteful material... and we can get women with Swastikas tattooed over their nipples running around topless.

Because, when it comes to Miller updating Eisner's racist, uncreative ideas, at least we're getting someone who has a little taste. :wow:

...and just to pre-answer the inevitable "what's your problem?" question, it's this...

The problem is Miller fanboys who are so hellbent on justifying the changes that he has made to Eisner's work that they are resorting to smearing the reputation of a man who did remarkable things in the medium of comics by promoting him as outdated, uncreative, and now, worst of all, a racist just to elevate Miller's ideas a little higher.

It's ignorant. It's deceitful. And, it's wrong.

And, worst of all... Frank Miller would not approve. :whatever:

No one is trying to discredit Eisner or even The Spirit. I'm just saying that material like this should be banned if we are supposed to be a reasonable and civilized society.

Fans see those books as a product of their time. They see them for what they are. They don't take the characterization of Ebony White seriously. They know that the character is not politicaly correct now. Trust me, those books don't need to be banned in order for us to be a reasonable and civilized society. We're smarter than to let some old comics hold us from progressing.

... and just like that... we are on the same side. :oldrazz:

Actually, I've agreed with pretty much everything you've been saying over in the Punisher: WarZone forum, too.

Well I'm going to make sure it gets banned regardless.

...and while you're at it, make sure you also ban Speedy Gonzalez and Pepe LePieu. OK?:whatever:

I think you just may have a little too much time on your hands, imo, my friend.

While you are certainly on to something with that last part, I'm pretty sure CN all ready stopped playing Speedy cartoons. So my work is cut out for me.

Umm, I believe not too long ago I saw a Speedy cartoon on either CN or Boomerang. Also, they still show Jonny Quest which has Dr. Sin.

Bottom line, you're not gonna ban anything. Reprints of these comics have been published for more than a decade or two. If they were as damaging as you claim they are, they would've been banned a long time ago.

Only ignorant people ban and burn books.

If anything this shouldn't be banned just to keep an example of how times have changed...for the better.

Times were different back then, yes it was racist but banning an old book...one that I'm sure isn't that well known by today's youth is just plain ignorance.

You're absurd, you make me chuckle.

We are supposed to be...but we're not.

It was a different time. There were different views.

Those views still exist today.

It's a part of history. And history ain't always right.

Move on.

Tisk. Tisk....You remind me of the obsurd Dr. Fredric Wertham, the crazy guy that invented the Comics Code. You're going a little overboard with comparing putting Ebony in comics to the KKK. African Americans have been racist towards white people, too. Turn on the Fresh Prince or the Jefferson's or Good Times or Sanford and Son. They often portray white people as idiots, take Officer Hoppy on sanford and son. They don't censor stuff like that, why should people have a problem with Ebony White. Just like those shows (most from the 70s), throughout history, this is how people portrayed the opposite race. Ebony was created at a time when African Americans were considered inferior to whites and was portrayed this way. I'm not for racism, but this was history. Just like the African American shows in the 70s, then, African American thought whites were stupid and therefore, in the media they were portrayed as stupid. Once again its history. Get a hobby.:yay:

He's mysterious because he never shows the face that we're showing your right now.

:whatever:

Aren't his gloves supposed to be purple and yellow? Like, they couldn't even keep that?

WTF Frank. WTF.

My theory is that Samuel L. Jackson is not The Octopus. He's really Ebony White who has assumed the identity of The Octopus in order to get revenge on the Spirit for being his black stereotypical sidekick for so many years.

That would honestly be the BEST idea ever... and truthfully, it's not outside of Miller's realm of storytelling.

I just wish he had thought to do it.

I would instantly be a fan of this movie.
