Football Violence - England Vs. Germany

Why is it that this sport inspires such violence? Football/soccer isn't a violent sport. I could see people getting riled up about a sport where the players are wailing on each other, but why this?

Every sport inspires violence when/if there are enough fans who are passionate about that sport.

You never hear these kind of things when it comes to athletism and other sports...

When it comes to violence in international soccer, it is not if, but when and how much. We have not heard the last of the viloence as far as the world cup goes.

Yeah I never go that.

Why do Americans call what they do football when they carry the ball under their arms for most of the game, whereas the game where you actually use your feet to kick the ball is called Soccer!?!?!

To me it is just stupid. Much like their World Series which as far as most people know, America is the only country to take part

Well... in American football they do use their feet. They use their feet to start the game by kicking the ball off, they will kick the ball to try and get 3 points if they get stopped and cannot get the 6. They also kick the ball after a touchdown to get the point after to make the total score on that drive 7 points. Someone obviously started to call American football just "football" over here before football (soccer) became popular here... so the name "football" is just too well known here over the past 100 years for them to change the name of the two sports.

Canada has a team as well... and they used to have more. Mexico might end up with a team in the future. The reason it is called the "World Series" is because we host the biggest baseball league in the world and the best players come to the U.S. to play for teams here... the MLB isn't just full of Americans, there are players from all over the world playing in the MLB. The winner of Major League Baseball... the World Series champion IS the champion of the world in baseball because no team could beat them. Also... the title "World Series' is also old and was given it's name a long time ago. They aren't going to change it.

Well we liked the name Marathon for the chocolate bar but they still changed that to Snickers. So things can change, it is not that they can't it is people are too lazy to do so

It's not laziness. It's far different than changing the name of a chocolate bar. It's somewhat hard changing something that is embedded into the American culture. People would be extremely pissed if they changed the World Series name to something else. When you do that you are changing 100+ years of history. Changing soccer to just football would be even harder here. We have a history of "football" being the game you see played in the NFL. We would have to find a new name for our American "football" and somehow re-program the minds of every sports fan in the United States. It's not going to happen. This is a far more difficult thing to do than changing the name of a chocolate bar...

Ah but changing the name would not change the history of a sport just its future.

Take the WWE for example. for years it was the WWF but then the other WWF sued them and now they cannot use that name. People adapted very quickly with no real damage in the long run.

Again... WWE is wrestling and is quite different than changing a major thing in the most popular game here. Major League Baseball is our pastime here. It is the most popular sport in the United States. Changing the name of the trophy and the name of the title of being a champion would piss many people off and it wouldn't go over here. WWF had to change their name to WWE due to legal issues if I do recall. The people who watch WWF/WWE are different than the people who watch a real sport as in baseball (MLB). Why change the name of the title anyways? The team who wins IS the World Champion. You know why? Because there is no league that rivals Major League Baseball in any way. MLB brings in the best players in the WORLD to play here in the United States and in Canada. There is no baseball team in the world that can beat the World Series champion at that point in time and year.
