why?
you cant pick and choose which taxes you pay.she got found guilty, she got a spell in chokey.

What she should have done was hired a company to clean up her street, then sent the city the bill.

So if you paid someone to do something and they didn't do it, but ran off with your money, would you just say "that's fine, I would have had to pay anyway"?

she has been jailed for non payment of a tax, so your analogy is rubbish.
taxation is paid into a central pot. we dont have the right to not pay it if we dont agree with how its allocated from that pot. If we disagree with the way in which that money is spent, we have the right to vote for someone else come election time.

Exactly. It's hardly a surprise that there are parts of any city that will always have more tax money spent on it than other parts. Just because this lady has the bad fortune to live in a less well kept part doesn't exempt her from paying taxes.

Granted there's obviously a larger back story that we're not privvy to - most likely a number of complaints which have probably been ignored by the council etc, but things like this, while on the one hand I applaud the sentiment behind the old doll's actions, and I genuinely do sympathise, it just sets a precedence for others to flout other, more serious laws.
