I started a similar thread about this from the Democrat POV of the 2008 Presidential eletion not that long ago. I though it would be interesting to hear the other side of this discussion. How do you think the Buh Administration has affected the Party when it comes to this topic? John McCain has been painted as the frontrunner for the nomination, do you want that to happen?

I think Bush is a Democrat in sheeps clothing.

If the Republicans are smart, and so far it looks like some are, they'll get as far away from Bush and Pals as they can get in the upcoming election.

I'm not a Republican, but I am fairly conservative on many issues.

I not wild about McCain, but I would vote for him over any of the left wing front-runners that I've seen so far. Hopefully there will be better choices come '08.

No, that's next Friday red-eye.

which is better to be, a repulican or democrat? I don't understand which to choose. I think my father is democrat.

Honestly? Neither. Both parties are just... crappy.

I don't call myself a Republican, I'm actually more Libertarian than Republican, but I go along with stuff like this for simplicity. My advice, is to read up on the constitution. If you agree with it specifically the Bill of Rights, then you should decide for yourself which party follows the Bill of Rights best. If you don't like the Constitution- then move.

You will never find a perfect political party, and really I kinda believe some of the things they say about their being an Illuminati type shadow government.

McCain or Guiliani 2008...I also wouldn't mind seeing Gingrich in there if the Dems have Congress, I mean look at what you get when Newt butts heads with the Dems (see: Clinton presidency and the compromises that came form Bill v. Newt).

Though it really is too bad that W screwed up Jebs chance of running. Jeb is 100 times smarter than W or his Dad. Look at the stuff JB has done in Florida and you realize we elected the wrong Bush Brother in 2000...dammit :(

I was thinking the same thing when it came to McCain and Guiliani, that the Republicans will nominate a moderate, after Bush. The only problem with those two is that they would probably be considered too liberal for the Party's base.

The world will end if Hilary becomes president. I love Rudy G and McCain and him go good together.

Regardless of who gets the nomination, I think the GOP ticket for 2008 will be a balanced one, meaning a conservative/moderate ticket or vice versa.

I'd vote Mark Warner over McCain. McCain has done nothing in his 20 years in the Senate aside from prove himself to be weak and ineffective.

Its hard to pick, as a Democrat a decent Republican. The entire party...THE ENTIRE PARTY...has been so far up this administration's butt, and now that it is going down, they are jumping out and coming off as ingeniune in the process.

The problem with a moderate running is, that because of Bush's fiscal irresponsibility, there will likely be a hardcore conservative third party candidate in 2008. A successor to Ross Perot, if you will. There is a good chance because of Bush's actions this person will garner the same kind of support Perot did, and if the Republicans run a moderate, this candidate will likely steal much of their conservative base.

That and the fact that none of the potential candidates for the Republicans in '08 are really strong. The only decent ones I think are John McCain and Rudy Guiliani, but the fact that they come into conflict with some of the ideals of the GOP makes me wonder about their chances. Hopefully the Democrats will emphasize this by nominating a candidate of their own that could win.

If Republicans take the presidency in '08 and Casey takes the PA Senate seat this november, I would not be suprised to see him become a front runner for 2012. He can appeal to a lot of the religious moderates without alienating the democrat base.

I think that Bush has ruined the chance for any hard-core conservative in the Republican Party such as Jeb Bush, Bill Frist, Rick Santorum, and George Allen (though he mostly screwed over himself over the Macaca fiasco) to actually win the election.

If the Republicans want to win, they have to nominate a much more moderate Republican like John McCain, Rudy Gulliani, Lincoln Chafee and John Warner.

If they don't, the only way the Republicans will win is if Hillary Clinton is nominated.

But like I said, what happens if their is a Perot-like candidate to steal the Conservative base? That is a real possibility not many are looking at for '08. After Bush's fiscal irresponsibility, a REAL hardcore conservative candidate may step in and garner quite a bit of support.

Imagine if Ross Perot ran again and won :wow:
