Fox's Own Superheroes: A Daring Duo at the Studio

The NY Time has always used "Mr." or "Ms.", etc in their interviews.

thanks for clearing that up. When I was taught journalism conventions, they said to just use the last name. Eh, whatever.

and I also didn't like how it seemed to be in favor of Rothman vs. Singer. Singer may have abandonded the franchise, but this makes it sound like he just upped and left. There was nothing said about Fox waiting almost two years to get the ball rolling on this movie.

also it sounded like Rothman was a huge supporter of these movies from day one. Which I really doubt is true, what with slashing the budget and moving the release date up six months on the original.

One thing I have to wonder is what Singer's part in all this was...

I mean why did he have to be an ass about it? Why didn't he give Fox the treatment he had for X3 and / or work out a first draft for them or something... he knew they were going to screw the thing up! The least he could have done was help to avoid this trajedy of a 'film'. Even if there was bad blood. What a f**k-head!

Donner said at one stage that when Singer left he took 'all of his unexpressed ideas for X3 with him'... he's as much to blame for this... he totally left them high and dry... he planted seeds for Phoenix in X1, spent much of X2 playing it up... and then just left them hanging. What did we really expect? Very few people could bring Phoenix to the screen properly as is evidenced by the drastic 'crack-****e' Phoenix we got two weeks ago. And Singer left them at the end of X2, with the absolute obligation to follow up with the Phoenix story... there was nobody on that production team who had the talent to write that story I don't think... and that's not really an insult because it's a monumental challenge imo.

So now I'm leaning more toward f**k Singer. Yeah, he wasn't responsible for screwing up the movie, but he sure left them in a seriously awkward position.

Maybe I have the wrong perspective on this issue entirely?

I was just about to post this here.

This article made me very mad by the way.

. . . He offered to do X3, etc. after Superman Returns . . . but FOX didn't want to wait, and look, now Superman is finished and about to be released . . . and an X3/X4 (or whatever the plans were) could be getting underway. Oh well.

Ok got ya. So this is the definite sequence then - Singer was getting plans for X3 underway, during which time he was offered Superman. He took the job, told Rothman and Rothman went ape s**t. Singer still offered to follow up on X-men after Superman Returns, but Rothman gave him the finger...

correct?

Ok if that's definitely the case then scratch all that... I'm back to f**k Fox and Rothman.

I should probably stop reading this stuff... This anger is not healthy... I've been carrying it for over two weeks now.

If Singer says he's finished with X-men. Fine. If he feels he should/want/need to do his version of X3 his way, then he should. What he needs to do is take X-Men to a different studio. who cares about Fox. While Singer is at it, he could do his X3/X4 back to back plan. But anyway. If he says he's done with X-Men, so be it. I still think he should do it though... its not entirely his fault with what went on between him and Rothman. All fingers are pointing the blame at Rothman, wither he cares or not- he should be the blame. So I say, the hell with him and Fox.

Really? That stinks, I could have waited longer.

well, only if it was good. I'm convinced Singers movie would have been better, but it still doesn't mean it would have been great.

Its too bad they couldn't have waited till after X3 to make Superman. Stupid studio rivalry.

The only reason Singer went toward Superman was because Rothman waited so long to get X3 off the ground.

Again, it had everything to do with a lack of confidence Rothman was showing in Singer. I mean, he had to continue to fight tooth and nail to get the proper budget and the contract from X3.

It should not have taken Rothman over a year to negotiate that contract. Period.

If I were Singer, of course I'd take my ideas with me. But, in all honest, there are a few ideas that Dan Harris and Mike Doughtery had in mind that made it into the film....

But he would need to have reason enough to go ahead with something crazy like that... X3 is pretty bad, but I think it would have needed to have been even worse in order for someone like Singer to come back and put it right...

it's still possible... and I do think he should... now more than ever since the film is so bad... but like you said, if he's done, he's done. He doesn't owe anyone anything. He gave us two great films.

The only reason Singer may have stated why he's done is because of the treatment he recieved there. He doesn't need to go back.

By the way, while The Last Stand will make more than X2 at the box office, because of how much they actually spent on making and marketing this film, X2 will at the end of the day have a bigger profit for Fox than The Last Stand.

Yeah I'm sitting outside my house so wirless is pretty screwy from here! hit the button about ten times lol

Howlett, so which ideas were their's?

The main one was the idea of Magneto using Jean as a weapon...

He could've used her to wipe out the entire island without using all those disposable mutants to attack the soldiers.:o

Hell, Magneto could've taken the entire GG Bridge and wiped out the island, let alone Jean.

Movie really over with that move.

I orignally thought he was going to throw the Bridge into Alcatraz. It was a little lame just to use it as a bridge.

and frankly didn't make much sense connecting it with the mainland, since the brotherhood was on the bridge.
