free comic book day

anyone else love watching pixier rip the demon apart with her soul blade?

my only criticism is that as much as i do love land, he cant draw younger women at all... lol shes like 12 and he drew her like 18

That's because Land uses porno to trace his pictures. If Land's Pixie actually looked 12-15, I'd be disturbed.

i wont call land a tracer, copier yes, tracer no. you can look at something and redraw it proportionally accurate. But until we actually see him tracing i wont call him a tracer. And even though he's a copier, i do like his work. And do think the finished product is always beautiful. I just wish his women varied. I can tell he's trying though... emma and pixie looked different in facial structure for once.... and his emma's face actually looked better then he normally does her.

That's pretty convicing. The Book was well written though.Gotta love the Brood.

I'm a little leery of calling anyone a trace too. I was once accused of tracing an artwork that I didn't even copy.

Eh, whether he literally lightboxed the drawing onto another sheet of paper or not is immaterial to me. He's appropriating other people's artwork, rearranging them on a page, and putting superhero costumes on them. In my world, that's fine for fan art, but at the professional level it's plagiarism.

actually... plagiarism and are is tricky... but if you take something and change it enough to make it your own then its not at all. Especially when taking something 3D and turning it 2D... like a picture to a drawing. I think he's getting better over the years, but I do love the finished product, copy or not

So what the hell were they?
The N'Garai. They're extra-dimensional demons who just happen to resemble the Brood. The X-Men have fought them before.
I think they were trying to do a comparison between Pixie and Shadowcat. Way back when Kitty Pryde was a student, there was a story written where she single handedly took on an N'Garai demon.

He may be changing it enough to skirt the laws regarding plagiarism, but I still count it. Not to mention his art is also very lazy. In the free comic, he reuses a picture of Wolverne from a panel just two pages earlier--it's literally, line-for-line, almost the exact same thing. That's just a waste of my time and (in other comics) money.

the only picture he used twice is wolvies side profile, which doesnt bother me. considering the same person should look the same from the same angle.... lol

He also copied a Nightcrawler picture he used in another comic, which he probably copied the first time from something else.

My store had a 15 comic limit. The owner's a great guy.

5 Free Comic Book day titles
5 kiddie titles (some FCBD titles, Justice League Unlimited, The Batman Strikes, etc...)
5 Comics from his store (Darwyn Cooke Spirit FTW!!! Robin, Amazing Spider-Man, etc.)

I was there for a couple of hours (since I went to eat lunch near the store) and peeked in every now and then. He would refill his stock so there was enough for everyone.

Fun day.

So do they ever say why they look so much like the Brood? Also the Hellboy Comic was Good.

They don't; Land and the colorist just suck. They used to be green, for one thing:

She went from 13 to early twentys pretty quickly, and yet Franklin Richards is just outta training pants.

I thought Kitty was around 16-18 during Excalibur. That'd make her the legal age for both the drinking she did, as well as letting Wisdom pop her cherry.

Did Colossus and Pete Wisdom ever fight? I always wanted to see Colossus kick Pete Wisdom's ass.

Yep, Marvel really ages their young mutants. I was thinking when I read X-Men: Divided We Stand (or whatever it's called), when did Sam Guthrie and his sister suddenly become drinking age and able to go into bars. (Not to mention how the writer just sent a message that when you are going through tough times, you go and get drunk in a bar.)
