Funds cut to NY??

I gotta ask this, how many other cities lost almost 5,000 people? Aside from Oklahoma City, where the tragedy was home induced?

So we should only give money to NYC to protect them and leave other cities to fend for themselves. It seems to me NYC has gotten a lot more money the last couple of years than any other city. The cut sucks but there seems only so much to go around. Im from Miami, and I live pretty close to Turkey Point, it would kind of suck to have a terrorist blow up the nuclear power plant and then having tot ell us we didnt get funding from the Government to protect ourselves.

I'm pretty sure the state of Kentucky has just a few more military installations and nuclear plants than NYC. Those are pretty expensive to protect. Plus I think it's absurd to compare the funding given to an entire state to that of NYC. I realize that most people in NYC think anything west of NJ is a cow pasture, but that's just not the case

You couldve given all the money in the world to NYC to protect it in 2001, and that still wouldnt have prevented 911, unless of course they somehow wouldve had the foresight to put anti-aircaft turrets on the WTC

Can't disagree with you there vindrow, it truly is a shame when some gets paid more to hit a ball with a stick, then the guy who has the decision to push a button or sign a paper or give a nod to determine the fate of the free and not so free world.

I never said it was just a New York problem, all I mentioned was that we are a major target and that they cut the defense funds(in half, by the way). I'll say it again, I wish no where in the world needed a defense fund, but we do.

It could also be that they're cutting waste or expenses on areas that aren't needed. Often times, someone will cut funding to something and then receive wholesale accusations of 'gutting a program' when in all actuality they're simply curbing wasteful spending.

Please understand, I am in no way hoping for any money not to be given to other states, I just believe NY funds should not be cut. Money that has been given in the past was not just to defend, but to rebuild. New York is pretty much the capital of the WORLD, finacially speaking. It wasn't called the World Trade Center for nothing.

are you saying that had they been in charge they would have sent 9 oil drillers in a space craft and prevented 9/11?

after watching that movie I re-learned history... WW2 didn't start with the bombing of Pearl Harbor.. it started because of a woman. :(

Ok well all, work day is done. Please all have a safe weekend. Equint, I mean Mr. President, maybe i'll see you in Crobar or Jade Terrace, or one of these crazy ass clubs here in NYC.

New York received 200 million in the previous year, 120 million this year
Houston received 24 million in the previous year, 16 million this year

Heh...will Houston and its surrounding ports, support 35% of the total US Oil Refining...as well as half the Military's shipments to Iraq via the port.
Then there is NASA as well...

I just found it a little lopsided...I know more people wanna stick it to New York before Houston, but it seems a little small to me...with such a HUGE critical infrastructure for oil and energy.
