My mom has told me she want's "There's a River" by Steve Winwood played during her funeral. Miami Vice fans should recognize that song as the one that played when Larry was found dead.
I've heard it....it IS sad and pretty appropriate.
Myself...I have my choices but I find it doubtful that a funeral home would play metal during a service.
My Picks-
1) A Tout Le Monde- Megadeth. I've been told this is a suicide song but I've never felt that way about it. I've always felt that it was about a guy who was terminally ill and finally accepted his fate and wrote a note to his family/friends to tell them that everything would be ok because he'd accepted what was gonna happen to him.
2) Watching Over Me -Iced Earth. I find this one uplifting and cheery despite the fact that it's about a guy dying. Dude's death was tragic and horrible, but the singer believes his dead friend is still hanging aroud, looking out for him. Whatever you may believe about the afterlife, that's pretty positive ****. I like the idea that our friends sould come back and watch our backs. I know I would if I could.
3) This one's totally up for grabs. I'd love for something like Weird Al's "Dare To Be Stupid". I've been to my fair share of funerals and they are always ultra-serious affairs. I won't be around for my funeral but to me it's about "honoring the guy who died" and I wouldn't haunt anyone who added a few laughs during my funeral. I love a good joke and wouldn't mind being honored that way.
