Funniest/dumbest MPAA ratings

"...and I will strike thee with great vengeance and furious anger.."

Goddamn-that IS a tasty burger!

The only one that comes to mind that's stupid is Whale Rider, which got a PG-13. Should've been PG, and maybe a few more families would see it.

As far as dumb descriptions go, I got none right now.

Also, Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade should've gotten a PG instead of PG-13. There's nothing in the film that merits it a heavier rating than that. I think they only gave it the rating it got to appease the pissed off soccer moms who felt Temple Of Doom was too scary. Heck, Last Crusade is actually probably the most light of the three in terms of violence.

Braveheart - Rated R for "Brutal Medieval Warfare". Sounds like a party I went to recently.

There was a western action movie that came out a few years ago that was rated PG-13 for...you guessed it, "western violence."

And I think "The Simpsons Movie" was rated PG-13 for "irreverent humor throughout."

EDIT: I was also wondering, does anyone know how "Titanic" managed to pull off its PG-13 rating? I mean with scene with Rose is almost full frontal nudity for a brief second, and we get more than just a glimpse of her bare breasts and butt. I was just curious how this film squeaked by with a mere PG-13 when many films that show even a flash of a woman's breasts can merit an R rating.

rated R- "because the mpaa said so"

Rated PG- "because spielberg has more power than us :("

Here's a couple.

Twister: Rated PG-13 for intense depiction of very bad weather
Alien vs. Predator: Rated PG-13 for violence, language, horror images, slime and gore.
Charlie And The Chocolate Factory: Rated PG for quirky situations, action and mild language.

Hehehehehe...the first one is trhe best.

I like Rush Hour as well, but in all fairness, every film should be rated equally, according to its actual content.

That's simply your individual opinion though on what the rating should be. For most people, saying the lords name in vain does not constitue an R rating. That is pretty laughable. R ratings are only used for swearing were the words are considered bad all the time. You can use the word God in a good way as opposed to the F word.

Pardon me if I've just misinterpreted, but how does using God's name as a swear word make it more "positive" than the F-bomb?

thats like using Kermit the frogs name as a curse word... "Kermit you!"

who cares:whatever:

I don’t believe FigmanJ is saying that taking the Lord’s name in vain is more positive than saying the word
f---. I believe his point is that, according to the MPAA, the word f--- is considered a swear word at all times regardless of the context in which it is used. The word God, however, is not. Pairing the word God with the phrase 'damn it,' is a personal offense to you and your religion. The MPAA does not consider it a general offense to all. On the other hand, the word f---, paired with any other word, is considered offensive at all times. I assume the MPAA grades movies according to what is considered tasteful to the general population at a given moment in time. The organization does not simply cater to the needs of Christians. As such, taking the Lord’s name in vain won’t merit a general R rating simply because it offends the sensibilities of one particular religion… at least it won’t until the MPAA takes into consideration all potential offenses to all cultures and their respective religions, etc.

Irreverent flatulence stand out in my mind as making me chuckle. I wish I could remember which movie.

How did this become a thread on religion?

Anyway, I always thought the PG rating for "non-stop frenentic cartoon violence", for the Powerpuff Girls movie was funny.
