The series is about U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Olyphant), a 19th century-style but modern-day officer based in Florida, who enforces his brand of justice to put a target on his back with criminals and puts him at odds with his bosses in the Marshal service. As a result, he gets reassigned to the district covering his rural Kentucky hometown.

the character of Raylan Givens is a character created by Elmore Leonard and has appeared in two novels and a short story

He went from a movie star to a tv star? The hell...? Oh well, maybe he likes acting and/or a steady paycheck.

I might watch this...

I'll try anything FX puts out.

And TV has surpassed movies in terms of quality storytelling. Its only 13 episodes and then he can do 2 movies during his break.

don't know if you noticed but quite a few film stars have jumped to TV and done very well

More and more movie actors are getting gigs on tv shows on FX, HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc. Those shows are better than network TV, IMO.

Glad I spotted this thread as I hadn't heard of the show before now, definitely looks like my kind of thing, cool to see Shane from The Shield getting more work.

Olyphant's most critically regarded work to date was on TV in Deadwood.

I liked him as the porn producer from The Girl Next Door

He was great on FX's Damages last year as the deadly Wes.

I'm a huge Leonard fan, so I'll definitely be watching this.

Anything by Elmore Leonard has my attention.

You guys remember Maximum Bob?

That's gonna be one sick-ass series! And I actually like Damages, so I'm watching this bad boy on the 16th.

If a TV show is successful its a steady paying gig for several years. And Olyphant hasn't had a lot of success as a leading man. Remember Hitman?

well so far all the critics that have watched the first episode have raved about it.

Gonna check this one out... looks interesting...

Can't way until tonight, I hope its as good as the reviews say it is.

Yeah. I never watched that show (don't have the pay-movie channels for one). I forgot he was in it. He did Damages too on FX it seems as well.

this might give Olyphant permanent badass status if this show is as good as it looks

Tim looks like Josh Duhamel so watching this...is very hard for me. :o

Off to a great start IMO.
