There is nothing worse than hanging around a bunch of attractive gay guys who often take turns ridiculing others for looking unattractive or having a little extra weight on them. Body image in the GLBT community has become so vain it truly is disgusting. One of my friends invited his gay roommate over to hang out with us, and within two minutes that roommate was making comments about those he saw on the quad whom he wouldn't ****. One guy, whom I knew, was an average guy, a little chunky but not incredibly unattractive. He said something along the lines of "If I bent him over I wouldn't know where to stick it," implying that his rolls look like ass cracks.
I, of course, have a body build like Jeb Bush, so I don't consider myself to be slim by any standards. But to hear that comment come out of his mouth was truly disturbing to me.
Another example, the best example, is on the show "Queer as Folk." On the first season DVD, there is a description of an episode where Ted dates an "overweight" chorus instructor. This character wasn't even close to fat, not a damn bit. Yet whoever wrote this show felt that the actor playing him was indeed overweight.
I truly do not get this mentality, where many gay men feel like being anorexic is the way to go and anyone with an ounce of body fat is repulsive. It kind of makes me lose faith in a part of this community.
