Rise of the Silver Surfer GALACTUS Discussion

Keep in mind, this isn't the story of FF 48, 49 and 50, this is 48, 57, 58, 59, 60 and annual #3. Of those issues, Galactus only appears for the final panel of issue 48.

I do believe that you are correct. It has been stated repeatedley that this is not the story of Galactus but of the Silver Surfer time on Earth and his first interaction with the 4. As fans, we all know the classic storyline and we want to see the whole Galactus saga but that is not what this film appears to be so a very brief view of Galactus is all I am expecting.

say.. I wonder will we get to see the Punisher? (you know...)

I seriously doubt it and I am certain not in this movie. The punisher robots are interesting if FF4 try to fight Galactus on his ship but if he just has a presence which is like a clou then there would be no reason for the puinisher robot to exist in the movie verse.

Damn, that is a hellova tease, aint it?
I figure though that is as close as we are gonna get to seeing a traditional form of Galactus though; a silhouette, or a shape/s seen within or around the actual form (which looks to be the rumored 'storm' going by the vast size of that shadow), but little more than that in the end (sigh...)

sure looks like they abandoned the storm cloud at the last minute

although theres also a scene where silver surfer is flying through some type of electrical storm/cloud

you guys did check out the spoilerish tracklisting on the movie's soundtrack right?

My new theory is that Galactus comes to earth....and then unleashes that "storm cloud" which is his way of devouring all the resources/life on the planet. It looks like a storm cloud, but it's not.

There cloud could be how he eats the Planet but I was really hoping that he'd be like the Galactus character from the Tick and one by one just starts to eat stuff on the Earth. Hell it might be slow but it gets the job done!

One of the tracklistings says "Galactus Destroys"

I find it interesting that they use the actual name: "Galactus" on the sound-track. In the book, they only mention Gah Lak Tus and "the destroyer".

I think the cloud will be referred to as "the destroyer" in the film, but I think there will be some ambiguity regarding Galactus to maintain some mystery.

I'll bet you Fox absolutely LOVES that we're spending so much time trying to figure it out. We're playing their game perfectly.

Yeah, we are so predictable.....

I was just thinking the exact same thing.

Gah Lak Tus Destroys? Eh...:down :down

Galactus Destroys.

Actually it's called
"Galactus Destroys/Opening" - which leads me to believe we may get our glimpse of Galactus at the film's beginning, before the opening credits sequence, as he consumes another, far away world. This would be perfect as far as I'm concerned,
because the audience will then have an idea just how freakin' serious the threat is.
Perhaps that shadow falling across the Jupiter/Saturn looking planet is the nose of Galactus' ship; that's my hunch. The shape may be an homage to the look of classic Galactus. And as long as it's clear that Galactus is an individual being within that ship, which may or may not be preceeded by a V'Ger type cloud...fine by me.
I'm all for saving the serious Galactus action for later. We know it ain't happening in this film, and frankly I never expected it to, given that the story is clearly an amalgamation of several classic FF stories.
The Spider-man franchise has played loose with the continuity and most (including myself) were quite happy with the first 2 films.
One thing looks fairly certain at this point, though:
Galactus is not a cloud. :whatever:
And the presence of a looming cosmic cloud is not a radical deviation from the character's comics origins.

And isn't hysterically funny HOW MUCH TIME we spent talking about that....ALL BECAUSE OF "someone" that saw a "non-existant" screening said Galactus was a cloud, and ran to AICN......lmao thats just WOW.....

Well i read and it may or may not be true, but FOX went back and is even working on galactus right now. It seems rather late in the game if true, but i hope so.

Yep. Freakin' wars have broke out over less. :woot:

About the only thing I'm at all concerned about at this point is Dr. Doom.
And really, not so much about that. Even the rubbery black suit pic that leaked out looked better than FF1, and in my opinion the 2 or 3 other pics that are also "not allowed" on here look much better than that one, with Doom in decidedly more traditional garb.

I assume I'm allowed to describe them?

I'm talking, of course, about the close-up shot where we see
his severely scarred face-he's got the traditional Dr. Doom green hood and cape in that shot... and the one showing him sitting in the shadows, on a throne of some sort, surrounded by a roomful of tv monitors- again, in full green hood and cape.
Those both looked great in my opinion.

And the back of his head in the trailer and tv spots - That looks a helluva lot more like Doom to me than what we saw in FF1.

Besides, I don't think the black "rubber-armed" Doom pic that annoyed many is the definitive Doom look anyway.

At this point, I think we get the best indication from this promo pic of the upcoming Burger King toys - That sure looks like Dr. Doom to me!

Sorry, my post got really screwed up. What I meant to say was that it seems to me that you guys are just assuming that we won't see Galactus in this movie, and I was wondering if there had been an interview or something to indicate that, or what. Also, I was thinking that it would be great if the movie came out and had Galactus looking like Galactus standing in Central Park fighting the FF and Silver Surfer. I think it would be great to have something that amazing be on screen. And sorry about messing up my posts, it posted like 6 times, then when I tried to edit them it said they didn't exist.

Now stop that.....

Ummmmmmmm....same as what????

Well, first of all, you guys consists of about 3 people on here.....the rest of us have either said...."wait and see", read read quotes from Story, Winters and Arad, along with reading the novel and said, "We are 90% sure Galactus is going to be there", and the rest have said "who cares" we're gonna see this movie anyway......so actually alot of what your reading is us playing around with the cloud thing.......really only 3 maybe 4 have said...said no cloud, some believed in the cloud because AICN is God.....and never makes a mistake......hmmmmmm......:cwink:

Now as far as what you want to see, I really doubt we are going to get that much of Galactus.....I will be pleasantly surprised, but very surprised if we get much more than the shadow we have seen.

Don't worry about your posts......WE AROUND HERE TOTALLY UNDERSTAND THE LAG TIME PROBLEMS....:woot:

As an average joe movie goer, I'm far more interesting in seeing Doom's europad. Also, I'd be worried that if Galactus's spaceship showed up, people would start screaming "Death Star ripoff!"

Good point, I could see that comparison being made. And I've only come to the Fantastic Four section of these boards a couple of times, so I didn't really have any clue as to what was going on, other than whatever the talk was here, and the only time I'd checked here the talk was the cloud. But anyways, yeah I'd love to see a full-fledged Galactus and think it could be done, but I agree that it is more likely than not that we won't see a whole lot of him. Also, which trailer is that shadow shot from? I saw that and got curious, I hadn't noticed before tonight.

It's from the 4th TV spot I believe....you can go to the video archive thread and see it....
