Rise of the Silver Surfer GALACTUS Discussion

I got the two Galactus pics...hope they haven't been posted yet.

Oh my God :wow:

That is F***ing awesome. I had doubts but that is Galactus. There must be something wrong with you guys if you think a menacing giant would have looked better than this.

Roll on Friday.

Passive when it comes to FOX and Marvel...i'm more of a DC guy. :cwink:

If Nolan and Co. screw up TDK, i'd be a totally different person.

Here's a crappy shot from the villain theme from Marvel Ultimate Alliance for Xbox360. The shot so far as I know exists nowhere else but this theme. And since I can't get rid of all the menu crap this is the best I could get of it. If only I had my camcorder, I could take the shot straight from the TV for excellent quality.

Just trying to play devil's advocate here, or rather "angel's advocate" since I'm trying to be more positive about this. It's obvious Fox didn't want to show the "true" Galactus until the Silver Surfer's solo flick. I mean, we DO see the shadow of his helmet over Saturn, do we not?
Yeah we do, i guess that's the 'nod' to the fans.

Don´t even try to compare this to things like organic webs. They just changed the source, Spidey still shoots his webs like in comics. Even Sandman being Ben´s killer - which is actually arguable if you saw the movie - had a valid storytelling point to it with the theme of revenge and forgiveness.

What is the point of Galactus being a cloud? The comics look is cheesy? A giant in a hi-tech suit is no cheesier than a silver guy who flies in space with a surf board or a guy made of rock. No, you don´t have to design him the exact same way Kirby did, you can update it, but you can stay true to the concept. And why is the guy being a cloud less cheesy? Or why does it make any more sense that a living being who´s a devourer of planets is embodied by a cloud than a humanoid?

Whats the budget on this one? After Surfer, maybe Galactus is just too expensive?

i just dont understand that if he is a cloud how is it that he recruits heralds like the silver surfer and all the others he has. unless he is telepathic or can shapeshift into the galactus we know and love.

then you don't do Galactus...or you don't show all of him, you just give us a teaser leading into the next movie.

something smart...not just decide to make him a gasious effect that's cheap.

they destroyed the character in this movie.

I don't really know him all that well......I met him on a few occassions....but we've never really talked...

Hey you never know, they may go ahead and "redo" Galactus in part 3, just like how they're 'redoing' Doom in this one...

:cwink:

His "cables" would be too big for you anyway :wow: :oldrazz:

Hey, I've handled some preeeety big cables in my time....*coughs**worked for Time Warner Cable for about a month...**coughs*

Thank you MisterWilson! I've been looking forever for that pic on the web but to no avail! Any chance you got a bigger sized version? Say wallpaper size? :D

hey ryo found your picture

Looks awesome.

Very good questions ultimatefan.

130 million i think. That's less than the likes of Iron Man (150 million+), Spider-Man 3 (250 million) etc.

:cwink:

maybe...or maybe they should just get it right the first time.

it's rediculous that we should have to try to justify this, kid ourselves into somehow excepting it when they could have done it right in the first place.

Galactus2.jpg

Look guys for one thing I think, am almost certain fox are saving the true galactus for the silver surfer movie I mean they're not exactly going to base a whole film around a pile of rocks and dust lol! And for another thing this formation looks awfully like the spacestation thing which Galactus sits on in the silver surfer cartoon particularly the bottom where there are what looks like several points coming out of it similar to the tendrils that absorb the planet's energy in the silver surfer cartoon. This is why I believe this is not Galactus himself but a weapon under his control which he uses to attack/ eat planets with- this is why I am almsot certain that the true Galactus is being saved for the silver surfer solo film in which it will fit much better contextually particularly with the references to other planets and more of a sci-fi edge to it than Fantastic Four.

I think a giant purple man in this film would just not work as it would change the tone somewhat, also I believe Fox finally made a right decision by not tacking him onto the end like venom was and actually saving his full realisation til another movie that being the silver surfer one. So quit worrying guys it's not like this is the last opportunity for Galactus to appear, I'm sure given time he will be created, looking amazing and being given a whole movie for his complex development.

Anyway, looking forward to this film, can't wait to see it- particularly the surfer!!:yay:

Fox is borderline Lionsgate. To think, Punisher only had a budget of about 13 million and F4: RotSS only has 130? Shame. But that's Fox for ya. All they care about is money.

Please don't judge people's fan credentials based on this issue or there capacity to accept changes to the source material or not:cmad:

I´m not judging any fans´ credentials, I´m just having a REAL hard time trying to see the point in defending this.

MisterWilson, where did you get it from in the first place? Because the pic itself is titled "ilmwallpaper3qv0.jpg" meaning that you could've just got the thumbnail for the true picture.

For the people still complaining in here about Galactus isn't this or Galactus should have been that or f*** Fox. Lets take a look at the stuff we have...

1) Galactus has talked to the Surfer, it is mentioned in the movie yet the giant cloud does not talk at all to anyone or anything.

2) The shadow over Saturn is clearly visible and is the outline of the giant Galactus we all want. Plus, the cosmic cloud is clearly visible ahead of Saturn so that means Galactus is behind it.

3)There is no reason to show Galactus in his full glory. Did you all want him to have 10 minutes of screen time like Venom and then be killed off???

Fox is more than likely saving the big G for the next movie or the Silver Surfer spinoff series. This is setting up for another film which IMO is better that if he had shown up and be defeated. Fanboys are going to whine either way. If Galactus was in the movie...people would whine and say he didn't have enough time because the Surfer's development took up too much time...because coincedentally the movie's subtitle is called Rise of the Silver Surfer...it doesn't have Galactus in the title...this is about the Fantastic Four and how they respond to the Silver Surfer. And then of course fanboys are whining because he isn't in the movie. WTF!? Galactus is an important character and setting him up like this will be far better than cramming him into the movie. The cloud is more than likely the predecessor of Galactus and how he devours planets.

The cloud looks better for many reasons. Nobody is going to believe a giant man can literally eat a planet whole in one bit or hold one in the palm of his hand. It would also be dumb for him to stick a giant straw in the Earth and suck out its innards and move on. The cloud is the tool to devour his planets...it is NOT his final form. Fox would not miss up on the chance to show the Fantastic Four and/or Silver Surfer battling it out with a gigantic 200 foot tall monster. Galactus is too come...don't worry. Plus Tim Story told someone on here...that the cloud is not his final form.

:cmad:

I'm not trying to justify it per se, but based on what they're supposably did with Doom for this one compared to the first movie, i'm just saying that I wouldn't put it past FOX if they end up doing the same thing with Galactus...

Why they do it? I guess just to see if they can get away with it the first time...obviously they couldn't with Doom.
