It's just a couple of weeks until the next generation begins for real, so it's about time we finish what we started in the nominations thread and vote our game(s) of the generation.

Because boiling an entire generation down to a single poll isn't fair to a lot of games out there, below I've included a bunch of categories to represent a much broader selection of games. Best First-Person Shooter - Halo 3: The most open, empowering realisation of the series to date.

Best Action Adventure - The Last Of Us: Naughty Dog proves it has the gameplay chops to go with the presentation and story-telling. Masterful from start to finish.

Runners-up - Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Yakuza 4

Best Stealth Game - Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker: The biggest Metal Gear on the smallest platform. Snake Eater's stealth-focussed approach met with Guns of the Patriot's refined mechanics, mixed with an ocean-deep base management system.

Runners-up - Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Splinter Cell: Conviction

Best Horror Game - Amnesia: The Dark Descent: Sadly one of just a handful of games even worth considering in this genre. Smart innovations to breathe some life back into horror.

Best Strategy/Tactics Game - XCOM: Enemy Unknown: Hands control of every aspect over to you. Challenging but fair, and fully engulfing.

Best Download-Only Game - Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons: For my money, the best 'journey' available digitally. Utterly charming throughout with a story that stays with you.

Runners-up - Spelunky, Hotline Miami

Best Cast of Characters - Mass Effect 3: I wouldn't rate ME in terms of its story, but there's no denying it has an incredible cast. Wrex and Garrus would win this alone for me.

Best Story - The Last Of Us: A lot of great gaming stories are defined by a particular moment, but The Last Of Us is relevant from start to finish. It has perhaps the most intelligent ending I've ever seen in a game, that's stayed with me for months after.

Best Looking Game - Castlevania: Lords of Shadow: Without a doubt the scene I think of when I think graphics is the stunning approach to the castle. The most show-stopping eye candy of the generation.

Best New Franchise - Souls: If only more developers dared to challenge gamers the way this series does.

Most Disappointing Game - Killzone 3: Killzone 2, in my opinion, is a masterful theatre of war. The third game sucks any signs of identity right out of the series.

Halo 3 won't win, especially most of the people on this forum are PS3 guys. But that game means so much to me & I don't think it will ever be replaced as my favorite game.

I was a 360 guy through and through this generation, and Halo is one of my favorite franchises, but Halo 3 is pretty close to the bottom of how I rank the series. Sorry. :/

I've missed alot of games this generation and I will continue to play catch up for years to come. I have missed the likes of every Assassins Creed and Mass Effect 2/3 and countless more games I would embarrass myself by mentioning hehe (Bioshock Infinite, Deadly Premonition, Injustice, Dishonored, Deus Ex,The Witcher, Rayman Origins, and loads more I may of touched but not really played...yet). My backlog is larger than it has ever been. Maybe I will edit my choices later? I will try to fill in every category based on what I have played. I had trouble with some categories such as action which was kinda broad but I gave it a shot!

To me the best means what left the best impression on me after playing, and how maybe it still holds up? I guess. Its hard to dig all the back through all I've played but I will try
