Gasoline Shortage -- arg!

That's what you get for living below the Mason-Dixon line.....tough cookies

At least we ain't threatening to call off any Yellow jacket games because of it.

there is about six gas stations down the street and three more a mile in the other direction. if there is no more gas , i'll have a good excuse not to go to work. if i dont work for a long time i'll steal a kid's bike.

I just got back from a trip to Charlotte, that area has had a gas shortage for over a week. It was nuts, a gas station would get tanker and not more than 15 minutes later there was line at least a mile long going into the station. I literly took people over two hours to get up to the pump and you were only allowed to buy $30 dollars worth. They had to have cops or security type people stand at each pump. Then you might wait for that long and not get gas. Glad I paid for the gas up front in my rental.

Its funny last month in London a computer games company was giving away free gas as premotion for their new game. It cause gridlock.

My brother lives in Nashville, TN, and last week, there was a rumor that there was no gas in the state, that caused people to line up at gas stations, overfill, and follow gas trucks around, causing a real shortage.

Yes, we did. I live just outside of Nashville. Fortunately, given my 7 mile, no-stop-and-go traffic commute, I can go two weeks without refueling. So, I just filled up once right at the beginning (I was close to empty), conserved fuel, and watched everyone else panic. I'm out of the state right now, where gas is plentiful. I'm guessing the worst of it is over, now.

Besides, even if I had run out of gas, I can still get everywhere I need by bicycle. Work, church, grocery stores, gym . . . all within 10 miles.

Um.. No offense but isn't there a thread for this under politics?

The thread's based on the personal experience of a hype member. It fits in the comm forum.

Cool. I dig.

In that case... In my area there are terrifying amounts of people that are on the verge of Mad Max-esque battles for gas. I've seriously seen people hoarding gasoline to the point where in every gas station in the tri-state area there is a limit of how much gas you can buy ($100 dollars worth) at a single time.

^thats good for you

Well, in all honesty, if this had happened in early 07, I would have been in big trouble. 35 mile commute to work . . . :csad:

But, I decided that I didn't want to be dependent on a car and wanted to always have the option of going by bicycle or on foot if I needed to. And, planned a job change and a move accordingly. So, here I am.

I'll never own a McMansion in a gated community in cookie-cutter suburbia, miles from work and the city. But, I don't think I'm missing out all that much, either.

So I found a Chevron in the Buckhead district of Atlanta today that actually had gas.

There were at least 40 cars lined up out into the street and around the corner waiting in line. It's madness. It's like those news reports from 1975 during the nationwide gas shortage.

I scrounged a few gallons earlier, but I've decided to keep my driving to a minimum this weekend and stay inside the city.

I hope you guys park in the garage, and/or have locks on your gas doors. :o

Maybe if we invested in alternative energies a decade ago like we should have, we wouldn't have this problem?
Exactly. We probably should have started seriously investing in alternative energy about three decades ago! It's a shame that people who are old enough to remember the late 70s, or are at least aware of that history, are so surprised to see this happening now.

As someone who moved here from Pennsylvania 2 years ago and used to say the same kind of ****, believe me when I say that the Northeast has just as many problems as the South, just in different areas.

people panicking like that is what's causing this, Evo, don't worry about it. It will all work out.

I just went out and got a half tank, it's not like I grabbed a few extra containers or anything.

I had to drive to another county yesterday to get gas, and I had to wait in a line that was 45 mins long, never in a million years would I think that I would see a gas crisis where gas would be $4.20 a gallon and I'd have to wait in a line to get freaking gas.
