Genndy Tartakovsky Directing Dark Crystal 2.. What do you think?

How do you feel about Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack) directing this movie? I'm for him.

Under ordinary circumstances I would be against the idea of anyone other than Frank Oz doing a Dark Crystal sequel, but I think with GT at the helm it should turn out well. GT's best work, I think, was on the severely underrated show Samurai Jack, in which he was able to create a thoroughly believable fantasy world. That plus the excellent job he did on Clone Wars has me convinced that he's exactly the right man for the job. Hopefully this will lead to GT being able to bring his awesome creative genious to hollywood and give us poor quality-starved viewers a breath of fresh air. He could even go on to become the next George Lucas, given the chance.

He's an awesome choice.

Say It Ain't So -- Dark Crystal 2 Scrapped?

The last thing we saw from the filmmakers behind the sequel to Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal was a glimpse of storyboards, back in October. Since then there's been no word on when the film would finish production, or even a glimpse at a solid release date. All of which served to fuel a rumor that began on film ick, and then started to work it's way through the mill. G4 The Feed has now reported that The Power Of The Dark Crystal has been put on hold. Genndy Tartakovsky has also gone on hiatus, with no plans to re-start. It's all still speculation at this point, since The Jim Henson Company has yet to release an official statement to confirm or deny.

As the story goes, the film has gone on permanent hiatus while The Jim Henson Company concentrates on other projects such as Edward Gorey's The Doubtful Guest and a film based on the Monster Blood Tattoo. If the rumors are true that The Dark Crystal 2 has been put back on the shelf, it doesn't exactly inspire me with confidence that The Henson Company is going to follow through with these other projects either.

"Dark Crystal" Sequel Still Glowing?

Rumours of the demise of the proposed "Dark Crystal" sequel may have been premature.

A posting on the Muppet Forums indicates the production is moving along as planned for a Spring 2008 release, despite a report last week at filmick to the contrary.

Jim Henson Company's Head of Publicity has apparently said that the goal is to finish post-production by the end of the year, so physical production "should be gearing up real soon".

There's even talk of a debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2008.

UK, August 6, 2009 - Brian Henson - son of legendary puppeteer Jim Henson - has revealed that his company is working on a sequel to cult kid's fantasy The Dark Crystal.

"We have a Dark Crystal sequel, called The Power of the Dark Crystal. It has a very strong script." Henson told MTV News.

He wouldn't reveal much more about the project, but said the film is very close to going into production, with the studio currently sorting out financing.
