I just read the following and after reading it I had to look at my cell phone to make sure that it wasn't 1945. Hollywood should be ashamed of themselves over this one.

Los Angeles - George Lucas has criticized the major Hollywood studios for not supporting his latest movie because all of the lead actors are black.
The BBC reports that "Star Wars" creator George Lucas has launched a broadside attack on major Hollywood studios for their apparent refusal to support his latest film "Red Tails" because the main cast are black actors. Lucas said that he had to self-fund the film about African-American pilots in World War II (the Tuskegee aviators) as he was unable to convince any studio to back it. This was despite Lucas' successes with the "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones" franchises. Later, according to the Hollywood Reporter, when he attempted to find a distributor for the feature about the African-American aerial combat unit, Lucas reckons that he met a similar wall of resistance and has had to pay for the distribution costs himself. The film is produced by Lucas' own company Lucasfilm and, like "Star Wars", will be distributed by Twentieth Century Fox CNN reports that when interviewed on the Daily Show Lucas, 67, said that major studios shied away from the film because "because it's an all-black movie" and "there's no major white roles in it at all". George Lucas created, co-wrote and produced "Red Tails" and has worked on the film on-and-off over the past 20 years. The focus of the film is on the the first African-American pilots to fly in a combat squadron during WWII. The film is directed by Anthony Hemingway (a TV director whose credits include “The Wire” and “ER”). The film stars Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Ne-Yo, David Oyelowo and Nate Parker and will be released in January 2012.

I reallay have a hard time beliveing Lucas would go down this road. It's eaither a good movie that will stand on it's own legs. Or it's a bad film that doesn't stand a chance.

The trailer looks good. But, then again so di the trailer for "Indiana Jones and the kingdom of crystal skull."

What's with the title though?

Good for George using his own money and influence to get this movie made and bring this to light. No one should stand by while people are discriminated against even if they are not the group subjugated. As the famous poem says, you stand by because its not directed at you when it is you there will be no one left on your side.

Thanks for posting this news, I probably would never have heard about it. I'll def check this out when it finally makes it way over here.

My hat's off to Mr. Lucas for working so hard to get this made and I must say from the trailer it looks like a very good movie.

Wasn't here already an HBO movie made of this some years back....actually titled The Tuskagee Airmen or something?

Yes there was. I enjoyed that one and I am looking forward to this one. I think it's an important part of history and it should be celebrated and showcased for everyone to see and learn and be proud of what men and women of all colors have done for this great country of ours.

I'm surprised Lucas actually got this movie made his been talking about it for years. Plus I remember one of the actors in this movie talking about filming it back in 2009.

I'm not shocked about Hollywoods attitude at all though. Plenty of actors and filmmakers have talked about Hollywoods prejudice attitude towards women, ethnic minorities and so on.

Yeah, but it's not true. Studios support all black casts all the time. There are all black casts films that come out just about every month. Think about all the trailers for films with all black casts. Usually they do well at the B.O., and the studio knows that. Tyler Perry films, Cedric The Entertainer, Ice-Cube and more I can't think of. Hollywood has made all black films going back from before The Wiz.

Lucas is a cry baby who is still upset that The Star Wars Prequels were not well received.

Maybe it's because the movie looks like crap? :o

Ah, yes, the old "tolerance" routine. You don't have to like 'em, but if you stand up for them, they'll help you.

The hell you say.

You know that isn't what it means. It means that only by standing up for each other will we all live in peace and happiness. That there is no room for focusing on differences when we have so many more similarities.

It seems Hollywood, when making movies based on historical events, seem to like to ignore that minorities had a part in fighting some of our biggest wars, like the Civil War for instance. I can only think of maybe one movie, Glory, that focused on the contribution of Black soldiers during that great war. I bet you guys didn't know that women fought on both Union and Confederate sides too as soldiers, not nurses. My mother is chock full of Civil War info that most people have never heard of.

That said, I'm glad to see that Terrence Howard is in this movie. I really did like his portrayal of James Rhodes in Ironman and it made me sad he would not be in the War Machine armor.

Lucas might have a point, ya know...

If you don't think there's a bias out there against movies like this, you're crazy...

I see this movie as a direct insult to me and my entire life.

I don't buy it for a second. Lucas can go to a studio with a pitch for a movie about paint drying on a wall and a studio would buy it. Movies with all black casts are made all the time. Granted, they aren't usually action films, but they are made and distributed. Plus, maybe there is a more rational explanation. Maybe studios were hesitant because the script wasn't good?

I'm guessing that this is Lucas lying like Lucas always lies. He is a notorious pathological liar. Let's look at some examples of lies that George Lucas has been caught in (in no small part due to the internet):

- He wrote the whole story YEARS in advance and knew from the beginning that there would be 6 movies and exactly how they would be (including Vader being Luke's father, C-3P0 being made by Vader, Boba Fett and the Stormtroopers being clones of Jango Fett etc).

- There was never a Star Wars Christmas Special made.

- The deleted scenes have never aired on TV (despite people having video tape recordings of them).

- He would NEVER release the original original trilogy on DVD.

- Greedo always shot first

The list goes on. Lucas is a pathological liar. I wouldn't be surprised at all if this is just another one.

Lucas is probably over exaggerating this, but that Toussaint movie is where this really shines light on the problem. Danny Glover has tried like hell to get that movie made.

He did have a plan for at least 6 movies, and he did spend years writing all sorts of versions of the tale, some of which survived exactly, some of which evolved in ways he did not expect.
He may have exagerated exactly how much he had planned, but it is a fact that he spent years writing the Star Wars saga.

- There was never a Star Wars Christmas Special made.

He has never said this, what you are twisting, is the fact that he likes to pretend it does not exist.

- The deleted scenes have never aired on TV (despite people having video tape recordings of them).

That is the first time i have heard of any deleted scenes from the OT being aired on tv.
The only deleted scene I ever saw some of was the original footage with a human Jabba on a SW doc.
do you have a source for claims that deleted scenes from the OT were aired on tv?

- He would NEVER release the original original trilogy on DVD.

So, when someone changes their mind, due to fan demand, that means they were lying in the first place? That is your opinion, not a fact.

- Greedo always shot first

Source please, again, like the Holiday Special, I highly doubt he would say something like this, that is easily proven to be wrong. Hell, he has given his reasons why he changed it to Han shooting first in the first SE.

All i see here is evidence of bias against Lucas.

Insert Star Wars prequel joke here...

I learned years ago how pointless it is to argue with a Lucas apologist. So I shall simply say feel free to do your own research (though I'm guessing you can find definitive proof to everything I've said and you'd still come up with ways to defend Lucas) :oldrazz:
