georgians.is the rebel flag ofensive or our heritage?

I think the car is something of a popculture icon now. Anyway, pointing out that there are some sociopaths in the world. Studying them and their deeds, exploring their inner-psyche could be an interesting career.

What exactly does the flag stand for?

I leave this thread with this:

Actually i think the Confederates sort of won,Blacks still are treated as second class citizens in the USA..and even in some parts of Europe..

As far as the Civil War it was much more than about slavery.....the main conflict, was states rights, slavery just happened to be one of those rights that some wanted......

now the confederates and the nazis are 2 different things.you need to study more history.notice that 91%of the south didnt have slaves.89% were against slavery and were already in the prosess of getting rid of it.
then there was a power struggle as usual.and things got rough.people dont like being told to do somthing there already doing.and the nutty abolitionists of the north didnt help with there attacks on the south.
so it led to war.and id like to point out that what happened to the south after the war was far beyond torture.trust me.im born and raised in georgia.i knew the meaning of family(not to insinuate other states dont)
and i know id take a thousand torments before i let one hit my family.and the fact that many men and women were now unable to provide.homeless and i poverty.having to watch your family and friends starve to death around you is terrible.

also.while there is a prevailing theory that ALL slave camps were horendous torture camps, this is not true.most were like factories with beds where you were paid with food.however. there were a few that did things like that.like i said, slavery is wrong.fighting for your home isnt.you need to watch shenandoah.it has a real good depiction of both sides.

I think your distorting history.

They were against slavery and trying to abolish it, yet they risked their lives to stop the federal government from stopping that supposed 11% of the south from owning slaves?

I don't buy it. If they were trying to get rid of it, they would have worked with the federal government, instead of against it. And supporting the confederate flag and claiming it's heritage would be like wearing a KKK robe and claiming your not racist, your just proud of some KKK ancestors you had.

Your minimizing, and making excuses. It's like saying it wasn't really that bad, because others had it worse. To me it sounds like you yourself, don't think slavery was really that big of a deal.

Kiddos, there's a reason that the KKK uses the Confederate flag. The Civil war wasn't just about slavery. But lord knows all those plantation owners weren't going to let some "Yankee government" tell them that they can't own slaves. Slavery was one of those "state's rights" issues.

better question is why ISNT it okay to fly the flag now.. but the General Lee has it paintedon its roof and its cool:huh:

Slightly off-topic, but the bit with the General Lee was probably one of the funniest parts of the remake of Dukes of Hazard: The two take the car to a big city (I think St. Louis) and as they're on the freeway, some cars get close to them and start flipping them off and calling them racist slave owners, while others in steel pick-ups were hooting and hollaring that the South would rise again, and the two were just watching in confusion. :woot:

Anyway, as for the Confederate flag--sure, state's rights were part of the reasons why the Civil War happened, but that doesn't mean the slavery thing can be glossed over. Hell, the main reason most people in Germany went to the Nazi party, to use a popular example, was to improve the economy and nationalism of the country, but that doesn't excuse them for being associated with mass genocide.

And like the picture said: They lost. It's kinda pathetic, when you think about it, waving the flag of a failed country. :o

So yeah, not cool.

In the end if you're still dwelling on a country that was eliminated over a hundred years ago you're a dumb ass, racist or not.

I still believe that we shouldn't re-enact a war we loss :o

If I had my way blacks would still be slaves :o

Too bad theyd beat out butts if we tried! :p

States rights were the reason for the Civil War, but slavery came to the forefront towards the end. And for all you people putting down the South, the Union had slave states too. And Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation only freed slaves in the Confederate States...that's right kiddies, the Union's slaves were still enslaved. It wasn't till after the war that slavery was abolished.

Learn your history before you go putting down one part of the country over another. There was slavery and just as much discrimination towards blacks in the north.
