Get ready for more Shrek

Is Shrek that popular? It feels like the love for it and pop culture significance aren't really there anymore.

Kids still probably love it but for the most part people have moved on. Overall, it's a bad long term move for Universal, if we're going by the quality of the last two.

oh god. but nothing unexpected with unnecessary sequelitis in hollywood.

Yup, and 10 plus years from now stuff like Frozen and Minions won't be as relevant anymore after Disney and Universal milks them. Every animated franchise has their time.

it'll be Dwayne Johnson or Benedict Cumberbatch.

The last movie was so thin and tired, it was obvious that they'd run out of fresh ideas and it was time to let the franchise end. Unless they reboot the franchise and start over I can't see how they stretch it out any farther.

They'll probably cash in on the Frozen bandwagon and reference or even have the Snow Queen show up at some point.

Hope they get Chris Miller back. Nothing has topped his work on Shrek the Third.

To hell with Shrek. I want more How To Train Your Dragon and Kung Fu Panda.

Disney has those awards and timeless feels with their films, though.

Rocky had his last sequel 16 years after the one before it, and the spin off came 9 years after that.
I guess a new Shreck movie isn't as bad an idea as some might think.

Dunno how great of an investment it would be for the studios but I'd be interested in seeing a movie focused on young Shrek and his past.

They probably couldn't write in Donkey and Fiona in a story like that without it being contrived and sho****ned so doubt it would be a real option but I think it would be amusing to see Shrek in his younger days, maybe like a clever coming of age tale where he moves to the swamp at the end

/\ you can EASILY do that with using Fiona and Donkey. Just use a time traveling villain. It wouldn't be exactly what you're looking for. But you can explore Shrek's past in a time traveling way. Albeit, too similar to the last film as well.....
