I liked this movie. It was exactly what I was hoping it would be: an enjoyable time at the movies with some nice little winks to the original show (which I loved). It wasn't anything great, but it was plenty of fun. Like others have said, there weren't a lot of memorable jokes, but:
Max: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Chief: Are you thinking, "holy ****, holy ****, this swordfish almost went through my head? If so, yes."

Alan Arkin's delivery of that one made it easily my favorite and most memorable quote of the movie.

Oh, and Bill in the tree was great, as well. My biggest complaint is that they did too much with the 99/Max relationship too soon. Other than that, though, good fun.

I'd give an 8/10.

i saw it Saturday, and it was exactly what I expected it to be. A summer popcorn flick with both action and comedy. Not a great cinematic work, just fun.

I'd actually recommend it to anyone looking for some fun summer escapism.

i'm happy for Get Smart.

It's funny..the third act was eh, but it's a good movie.

I'm so glad that they mad Carell's Smart...smart. He's clumsy but he does know how to fight and he kills when he has to. I was shocked.

I'm happy for Anne Hatheaway too. this can only further her career..I just hope she doesn't become to Hollywoodized.

I just loved this movie, really loved this movie. Steve was awesome and too funny. Come on sequal. Also I am so glad it did a lot in the box office.

Overall the film gets a 8/10 from me. It was hilarious. I don't know what the critics are talking about. The movie had it all and it was very well balanced.

I was a fan of the old tv show (use to watch it on Nick at Night after Gilligan's Island) so I was excited to see this. I was surprised how much I ended up liking it. Steve Carell is absolutely hilarious. He's shaping up to be one of my favorite actors. I was also pretty surprised how much action there was. I really enjoyed this film a lot. Look forward to the dvd.

9/10

Finally. A movie based off a tv show that was actually good.

8/10.

Just got out of it and I gotta tell ya...the critics really dropped the ball on this one.

As a fan of the series, I thought the movie was FANTASTIC!!! It hit all the right notes and had plenty of references to the show.

I espeically loved the films characterization of Max and how they made him a really competent Agent of CONTROL. I assumed they were going to go the route of him bumbling along with 99 having to save his ass but he was actually able to hold his own throughout the film.

The rest of the cast was solid. Hathaway as 99 was awesome, Arkin as Chief was great, even Dwayne Johnson was pretty damn funny. No complaints whatsoever.

The comedy never felt forced and came off naturally. I personally felt there were many LOL moments contrary to the critics opinions. They really hit a very nice balance between the action and humor in the film.

One thing I was mostly impressed with was the chemistry between Carrell and Hathaway. Originally I was :whatever: about Hathaway because she is so much younger than Carrell but you know what? The film makes it work! By the time they're together at the end, it just felt right...

Prior to seeing the movie, originally I squirmed at the thought of the two kissing but their chemistry in the film is undeniable and they really make the Max/Agent 99 relationship work.

Overall, a solid 9.

I really hope there's a follow-up...this movie was absolutely FANTASTIC.

for those of you who were a fan of the show... how does the movie capture it's spirit? its feel? cuz from what i've seen i feel like it's too Steve Carrel all over it.. and it kinda loses the smart humor (no pun intended)

I haven't seen the movie yet, but my mom is a huge fan of the show (she has the entire series on DVD), and she saw the movie today and thought it absolutely captured the spirit of the show...and she was very impressed with Steve Carrell, and she really enjoyed the movie.

well thats good at least... i just hope they havent over modernized it

Trust me. If you're a fan of the show you'll LOVE the movie.

For me, it captured the spirit of the show perfectly. And also, there are just so many references to the series..I couldn't help but smile each time something familiar from the show popped up.

Regarding Carell's portrayal...see the thing is--don't go into the movie expecting a Don Adams version of Maxwell Smart. Steve Carell very much made the character his own. In my opinion, it was a very smart decision and I very much enjoyed his version of Maxwell Smart. And though it is a somewhat variation of the Max character, don't worry...there are still little nuances in Carell's performance that remind you of Don Adams.

As a fan, I really LOVED this movie.

I saw it today. It was a pretty average movie, I thought. But this line did have me die laughing:

Smart: Chief, are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Chief: I don't know. Are you thinking "Holy ****, holy ****, a swordfish almost went through my head"? If so, then yes.

Saw it today, Ive never seen the TV show but i was thoroughly entertained. :D  All the cast were fantastic.

Anyone know when this is out on DVD? I missed it in the theaters. I blame my son. :o

I don't think there is a specific release date yet...but it's listed as a 2008 DVD release. Im guessing December.
