Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will debut a Ghost Rider Gift Set on November 13. The gift set features the two-disc extended cut of Ghost Rider with 15 minutes of extra footage and over two hours of special features along with an exclusive limited edition figure of the flaming Ghost Rider. The figure is cast in heavyweight polystone with movie-accurate costuming and great detail in his signature chains.

Based on Marvel Comic's popular series, the high-octane adventure stars Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Wes Bentley, Sam Elliott, Donal Logue and Peter Fonda.

The Ghost Rider Gift Set will be available for $59.95 SRP. Viewers will get a chance to go behind the action with DVD bonus featurettes "Spirit of Vengeance" and "Spirit of Adventure," as well as listen to commentaries with writer/director Mark Steven Johnson (Daredevil), visual effects supervisor Kevin Mack, and producer Gary Foster. The extended cut DVD includes an additional behind-the-scenes featurette called "Spirit of Execution," along with the "Sin and Salvation" series of featurettes which delves into the history of the Ghost Rider comics. Animatics are also featured, offering fans a look at the computer animation behind Ghost Rider. The Extended Cut of Ghost Rider features an additional 15 minutes of never-before-seen footage including more suspense, more story and more excitement! Additional scenes include more backstory between Johnny Blaze (Cage) and his father, additional scenes between Johnny and evil incarnate Mephistopheles (Fonda) and an intense confrontation between the Caretaker (Elliot) and Blackheart (Bentley).

From Marvel Comics, creators of Spider-Man, Blade and X-Men, comes a new hero.... Ghost Rider. In his youth, superstar motorcycle stunt rider Johnny Blaze made a deal with the devil to protect the ones he loved most: his father and his childhood sweetheart, Roxanne. Now, the devil has come for his due. By day, Johnny is a die-hard stunt rider ... but at night, in the presence of evil, he becomes the Ghost Rider, a bounty hunter of rogue demons. Forced to do the devil's bidding, Johnny is determined to confront his fate and use his curse and powers to defend the innocent.

So, it's the same thing as the $20 release, but with a $30 Statur/Action Figure....... o_O No thanks......

i already have the extended cut , so why bother

Studios: Yeah we know it's a crappy movie, but let's put an action figure in it and hope the little kids make their mom's buy it for them!

Sony will probably do something similar with Spider-Man 3 months after it is released on dvd.

Well, I won't be buying it. I've already got the movie. If they'd released it at the same time as the regular DVD I might have.

:yay:

Same here, i'm not buying it again just for an action figure.

I wouldn't spend $60 on it even if I didn't already have the extended cut.

just another example of shameless double dipping

???
It's the same DVD, but with a figure?

Hope the figure looks like crap. I don't wanna be tempted to buy it.:o

Its tailored for the Christmas Shopping Season so it will sell fast regardless if fans buy it or not.

I wont buy it because I prefer the Theatrical cut to the Directors Cut...

Haha!! Yeh, same here! From the description though, sounds like a pretty solid statue, and not a super posable action figure. If I'm right, then dman, this is gonna be a difficult decision.

Whoa! Really? How bro? Just curious. For awhile I thought that everyone prefered the directors cut. For one, it had better pacing, and explained some loop holes (Blackhearts being able to enter a church, when he's supposed to be unable to access hallowed ground). Again, just curious.

Theres no extra scenes of Ghost Rider...its a rip off.

To me the theatrical cut was just cut better...and if I'm not mistaken that is MSJ's preferred cut also. The extended cut just makes the movie drag and adds extra 'cheese' the to horribly cheesy screenplay. Not even 1 hour of non-GR filler could have saved the unbelievably shallow story.

I actually own both versions, I gave away my extended cut for free to a friend with the theatrical cut DVD box.

Instead, I kept the bonus disc from the extended edition (that had the Ghost Rider timeline documentary), (kept the extended DVD box too), and instead put the Theatrical Edition inside it.

GEEZ at least add music videos or something, repackaging the same movie just stinks.

Well, extra scenes of Ghost rider would've been the best indeed. I wasn't exactly expecting that there would be any though since I'm sure that considering the costs, Sony and MSJ wouldnt leave any GR scene out of the movie. Let alone make one which would only end up on the cutting room floor.

What I did expect from the extended version were scenes that would tie up some loose ends, and make a (slightly) better film. This is where I think this disc succeeded. As I mentioned in the previous post, it resolved the issue about Blackheart entering hallowed ground. The theatrical version didn't do that, and even though its a small issue, it still bothers you by the end of the film, and even makes you lose some respect for the movie (kinda makes you ask, "Can't walk on hallowed ground and he goes inside a church? How the hell did they overlook that??". To this day, I still wonder why they had to take that pivotal scene out in the first place). It's one of those small loopholes that actually go a long way. So I'm glad that was resolved.

Also, I think the pacing improved. For me at least, that scene with the lamp posts where Mephisto confronts the hidden (although cool in itself) was kinda off pace. The transition from that scene to the next just felt off. One of those "change seating positions" moments. Dunno if any of you guys also felt that. This "problem" was fixed on the extended disc.

So all in all, even if the scenes were short and didn't have GR, they tied up the spaces in between the film, which is what I was expecting the Extended edition to do in the first place.

P.S. sorry of this is pretty out of topic. :woot:

Yeah i agree with all of this, the EE version was definately the better version and did tie up some loose ends that bothered me in the theatrical version.

Looks like he's trying to hang himself with the spiked chain he never used in the film.

I still think its gonna sell well because its Christmas time. Theres lots of people who still havent seen it and theres lots of guys (and I guess kids) who wouldnt mind this movie as a present.

Yeah that would make sense, but I think the reason they came out with the extended cut earlier was to make enough earnings for their quarterly profits.

Still if I didnt have the extended cut DVD until now, I'd probably be the shmuck to whip out $45 to buy it.

I got mine for $35 at Deepdiscount.com 20% sale, a great addition to my Ghostrider DVD collection
