Only done right 3 or 4 times on film, yet the hard core fans of the big G have seen all 30+ of his movies.

What would your ultimate Godzilla movie be?

Only seen a handful despite being a G-fan (albeit not a hardcore one). Seen all of the Heisei, Millennium, and both American films; as well as a couple of Showa films. Most of the Showa films are absolute **** save for the original.

Oh yea, and the bulk of the hardcore Godzilla fanbase irritates me, just FYI. You can find these kinds of people on Tohokingdom, Godzilla-movies.com, and Youtube (oh God... Youtube...)

The last Godzilla movie was rather good, even if MUTO was a grade B type of monster. The movie made $400+ million wold wide. I felt Godzilla 2014in the hands of a good director with cash to be spent looked very good, even though he was a bit fat.

A follow up is planned with 3 other monsters. Bad scripts, stock footage, bad english dubs, bad acting, and a struggle to have credible movie aliens plague many past Godzilla movies.

I hope those days are gone!

I have ALL of the Godzilla movies. (Sadly not all in viewable form, as I no longer have a VHS player)

It does seem like Toho has learned their lesson over the implosion of the Millenium series. The 2016 film isn't being rushed out in a year like they did previously. It will be good to have a good stream of Godzilla content again.

You have all of them? Even Godzilla Strikes Again? That one was hard to record because it was seldom aired.

Do you mean Godzilla Raids Again? The second Godzilla movie? Yup. Had it on a bootleg VHS for a while, but now it is easy to get DVD. There is only 3 films that are unavailable in DVD/Bluray format in the US.

Yep, that's the one. I think it was also called Gigantis the fire monster. Many years before the internet I saw this one on TV and said to myself, when did they come out with this one!

My all time favorite that I'm still waiting for on dvd is Godzilla 1985. A very underrated Godzilla film, imo.

I am hoping it is the Criterion Collection we have been hearing rumors about. Seems a bit cheap though, at only $150.

The next Gojira movie (excluding Gojira vs Kong) will be the first in Reiwa era...

I hope Toho will bring something new, fresh, and unique like they did Gojira in every era.

Oh, I love Against Mecha Godzilla and Tokyo SOS from 2002-2003, by the way...

just because at the time, I am a fan of Yumiko Shaku (the main protagonist from 2002), who at the time is still active as gravure idol (a bikini model). Haha

in Tokyo SOS 2003, the main protagonist (Kaneko Noboru) is known as Gao Red in Hyakuju Sentai Gaoranger, 2 years prior. And one of the twin fairies of Mothra in the movie played by still young and unpopular, Nagasawa Masami (who after this movie, becomes huge star and celebrities in Japan)

Aside from the human cast, I really loved the design of Gojira in those 2 movies, with also screentime not too long, Masaki Tezuka is remains my favorte Gojira director.

I loved the Milleniums series, though...especially 2 movies in 2002-2003 (what I said above).
It was feels like a good old Tokusatsu movie, and I appreciate it more because of it.

Shin is different movie, though...I am not that much fan of Hideaki Anno and his Evangelion influence all over it, but I loved it as political satir movie as it is....Also, the cast is All-Star Cast for Japanese Cinema, though. So, that is a plus.

Personally, I am a huge fan of Shin Godzilla. Also really like the original film, Godzilla Raids Again, King Kong vs. Godzilla, Mothra vs. Godzilla, Godzilla 85 and Godzilla 2000.

Well, in preparation for GvK, I am going to attempt to rewatch all the Godzilla movies. And given the state last time I peeked at that thread, I will be posting here.

So, started off with Godzilla, both Japanese and American versions. Classics, though obviously the Japanese is the superior film. The American is a fun study in editing, though. Really deserves marks for a creative adaptation. Watanabe's character really should have been named Yamane. It was fun watching them back to back. Seeing the small changes made, and the various ways to integrate stuff.

Definitely something to keep an eye out on. May be able to get some better info on if there is a new deal with Legendary. But, hopefully there are some other goodies in there. I expect at minimum Singular Point Season 2 announcement. Fear SH Monsterarts announcements.

Did... did Toho just commission a goddamn new Jet Jaguar suit? I'm not gonna lie, I am happy that Toho is keeping suitmation around, even if it is just these shorts. I really enjoyed the Hedorah short last year, And apparently they made a new Gigan one as well.

Now I'm sad I missed out on the Tokyo SOS showing they had, as I think this would have been on it. Man, that Final Wars suit is sturdy, going on 20 years now.

Oh, and if you liked the Gigan Rex stuff....

Licensing does make things a bit of a mess. Pretty much all of them are fairly easily available now in the US. Though, bootleg is the only way you are ever going to see the US version of Godzilla 1985. But yeah, a VPN is likely your best chance.

I have it on VHS somewhere at my parents house

For those of you looking for something a bit unique to add to your collection....

22 years later...
